Can I use iSight as a remote camera?

I'd like to use iSight as a remote camera and record the video to a miniDV camera in a safer location.
I don't have a nearby Applestore to go check this idea out, does anyone know if it's possible? I have a powered FW hub, so I can power the iSight w/o a computer (I think)

You're welcome, Mark. Have you driven an iSight from a Dazzle before, or do you know someone who has?No.
Although I have no technical data to quote that proves this, based on reports posted in Apple Discussions, I believe that iSight is less protected against shock, vibration, dust, and humidity than my "walking-around" cameras.
I use a camcorder or the movie setting on my digital still camera for recording movie clips when I will be moving the camera. I do not mean to imply that iSight is inordinately delicate, merely that it is not as shock resistant as cameras designed to be carried. I would be surprised if iSight would withstand the rigors of aerobatics.
Based on what you want to do, iSight's seemingly modest shock tolerance, and the price of GL2s, I would look for a device more like the sports camcorder mentioned earlier.
Perhaps others can offer some first-hand experience that will be relevant to what you want to do.

  • Can I use iSight as a still camera?

    Hello!
I recently purchased a MacBook Pro 17". I wish to know whether I can use iSight as a still camera or not.
Actually, when I was setting my MacBook up and came to the setting where it asked for my display picture, I hastily clicked a very unusable picture of myself and proceeded with the rest of the settings. I thought I would change it later. I then installed Microsoft MSN Messenger and it displayed that stupid picture as the display picture. I changed my User Account picture after that to a better one but MSN Messenger still is displaying the same picture as the difault picture. How do I change it? I don't even know where Mac stores the User Account picture. So, I wanted to click another picture of myself with the iSight camera and store it in the pictures folder so that I could change MSN Messenger's display picture. Is it possible? If not, how else can I change MSN Messenger's picture to the User Account picture on my OS?
Sorry for the huge rant and please do reply ASAP!
    Thank you!

    Hi Cool 'n' Casual,
    Sort of.
You have PhotoBooth on there which will give a warning before it click the pic and flashes the screen to improve lighting when it does.
It can be a "normal" pic rather than any of the specials.
iChat itself can take a snapshot. It can be done from the Buddy List and clicking on your current Buddy pic and following the buttons. Or from the menu bar in Video.
Photobooth stores the pics and can link directly to iChat to post a pic.
Your Recent Pictures are stored in Users/(your account)/Library/Images/Recent iChat Pictures.
It is likely that you will have to navigate to this folder if you want MSN to display the same pic.
By default iChat will display the Pic you selected for your Mac user account when you set the computer up as seen in the Address Book for your Me card. It is probably this one that MSN is displaying.

  • How can i use isight camera to broadcast to web with Mac OS 10.4?

I am using an iBook G4 running OS 10.4 as a printer server.  I have to do this to be able to print on my HP DeskJet 882c printer from computers running OS 10.6 and above (although I have not been able to get it to work with 10.8).
I can connect an iSight camera to the iBook via FireWire.  Can I set that up to broadcast a video feed to a web site so I can visually monitor the area near the laptop and printer?

You could use compatible older versions of QuickTime professional extensions for your Mac OS X version.
This professional quality software is very powerful, and it will certainly stream any video you need.  However, it is not simple to use, so be prepared to do some research and study to get it configured and working.
To use your iBook with its OS X 10.4, you will need QuickTime Broadcaster 1.5.3
and Darwin Streaming Server (v5.5.5) (if you need streaming server functions.)
Although I have never used it, QuickTime Streaming Server 4.1.1 might be a useable substitute for Darwin.

  • Can I use my old Apple remote on my new Mac

I just replaced my old iMac with a new 27" one.    My old Mac had one of those old Apple remote controls that used a magnet to attach to the side of my machine.     Can I use it on my new computer?
The only thing I did was pause & restart my iTunes.

If you want to control your new iMac remotely and you own a mobile iDevice, there are remote apps you can use on both your iMac and iDevice.
These apps work over Wifi and/or Bluetooth.
Apple has its own remote app simply called Remote.
Another, which I use and is very comprehensive remote app, is called Rowmote Pro by a developer called Regular & Rhythm.
If you want complete and total remote control access to your Mac, look at Splashtop Remote.
There is also a dedicated WifI and/or Bluetooth remote for Macs and iDevices by a company called Satechi.
    Found here.

  • How can i use my X6 as web camera.?

how can i use my phone's camera as web camera.....????

Shivneet wrote: ... I would like the display for the MacBook to be turned off so I can see video only on my TV. ... Is there any way to achieve this?
    Not that I could find.
The easiest workaround that I could find is a trimmed piece of Black Construction Paper taped over the Mac's display.
Alternatively, you could use an external Mac Compatible Web Cameras and then close the lid, but that is a higher cost option.

  • Can i use the lightning to usb camera adapter for sony cybershotdsc-w380

DDoes anyone know how to use a lightning to sub camera adapter for a Sony cyber shot doc-w830

    This discussion may help.
It mostly depends on the camera. Some cameras have a Transfer Mode, which does not attempt to charge while transferring pictures. does yours have such a setting?
Alternatively you can try to plug a powered USB hub between the camera and the USB connector so the power is provided by the HUB rather than the iPad.
Other than that, yes the Memory card reader may be a better option assuming your Camera uses Secure Digital (SD) type memory cards.

  • Can I use iSight as a webcam in msn messenger?

Hi I have just got my macbook and i was wondering if i could use iSight as a webcam.
    Any help
    Thanks

    Hello Bad Monk
I don't use messenger and don't remember seeing anything about audio plans.
You'll have to ask Microsoft or a Messenger user's forum when messenger for mac will allow video chat. You see the latest by entering the word "audio" (without the quotation marks) in the search box at the left side of the linked page. If you do not get what you need, ask your question there.
    why cant it?
The only reason I can imagine is that Microsoft does not write the software to use Mac's OS X audio capability. Perhaps they have a vested interest in the Windows version working better?
    any news on this please?
This Google Search will give you any news I could find.
In the meantime, because your MacBook can use Boot Camp, Parallels, or VMWare Fusion to run Windows XP software on your MacBook, you can choose which method you want to use, add the required software (if you have not already done so), and then install and use the same Windows instant messenger application that your PC contacts who will only use a messenger client are using to do video with audio.
Hmmmm. This option makes another Windows sale for Microsoft in order for you to use the version that includes audio! Whaddaya think?

If you have home sharing enabled on the Apple TV and an IOS running on the same network you can use the remote app. Otherwise, you will need to purchase a new remote.

  • Airport extreme (UFO) used for bridge for remote camera system.

Where do I start! This could be a whole page of frustrated user set up of my APE.
Anyhow, after several hours of trying to get it to work, I'l give a quick summary of what I'm trying to accomplish.
What I Have : Airport extreme (square) base station running B/G specs (universal for all my computers)
Airport extreme ( UFO ), trying to use as a remote bridge for my video surveillance system in my basement.
What I want to do : Make the APE UFO talk to the APE square to send signal from my remote camera system to my APE square in my office.
Seems like it should be simple enough, however, I'm beyond myself at this point in trying to make it work. Maybe my settings are wrong on one, or even both of the APE's.
Port forwarding? Could I be missing a important step here?
Any thoughts, or step by step walk through would be very much appreciated.
    AJ

You'll need to create a "static WDS" arrangement. To do that, you'll first need to note the MAC addresses ("AirPort IDs") of each station. Launch AirPort Utility, enter "manual setup" mode for the square APE, then hold down an "option" key while you pull down the "Wireless Mode" list under the AirPort/Wireless panel. Pick the choice to "Participate in a WDS network". Fill in the details, declaring the square APE to be the "WDS Main" and the AirPort ID of the UFO station in the WDS Remote" list. Save the configuration. Now use AirPort Utility on the "UFO" APE. (You may need to connect to it with an Ethernet cable to see it.) Set the "Wireless Mode" the same, declaring the base station as a remote station. Be sure to use identical values for network name, wireless security method, network password, band, and channel on both stations.
