Can I use itunes for more than one device?

Recently my son has aquired an ipod touch, he needs to be able to use itunes so he used my computer, however all my apps and music synced to his device, I managed to sort it out but when I plugged my ipod in I lost all my music and ended up with just his music.
What I'm trying to say is do I need itunes on another computer to prevent all our stuff getting mixed up all the time or is there a way for me to use both ipods individually on one itunes?

No. See:
How to use multiple iPods, iPads, or iPhones with one computer
If you use the same iTunes account, you can do it just by ensiring that the devices have different names. Then just go to the various panes (Apps, music etc.) and check the boxes so that only selected items sync to the iPod.

  • Can I use itunes on more than one computer?

Hello all, hoping you can help me.
I have itunes on an old ( and therefore very slow!) laptop. Hoping to get a new laptop soon, but can I just install itunes on this new one and use it with my ipod?
My ipod is set to update manually so I think it should be ok. Just don't want to do it before asking just in case I lose my music!
    Thanks.

You're welcome. One word of caution though if you are using an iPod that holds more than your computer and you want to fill it to capacity. If you delete songs from your PC and have no back up other than the iPod you will risk losing them permanently if your iPod fails or you find you have to restore it to solve a problem. You should consider investing in an external hard drive to store/back up your music. Alternatively at the very least back up songs you can't replace such as iTunes downloads to CD or DVD. Forum member Buegie has compiled a very extensive procedure for backing up your music which you'll find at this link: Backing up iTunes. Take care.

  • Can I use iSync for more than one user on my .mac family account?

I just got a new MacBook Pro 17" to replace my Pro 15", which I want to give to my hubby who's using an old MacBook. I have successfully synched my old Pro to the cloud and my new Pro, thereby rolling over all my settings, widgets, address book, etc. But now I want to roll-over my husband's settings from the MacBook to the old 15" Pro. I'm afraid if I just perform a sync, MY settings out there in the cloud will overwrite his. What's the proper procedure to follow here? He's got a lot of passwords and really wants his bookmarks saved to the 15" MacBook Pro-- that's the most important info he wants to maintain. Recommendations?

iSync is for syncing mobile phones and PDAs - it has nothing to do with syncing between Macs.

  • Can you use aircards on more than one device?

I'm asking for a friend of mine who has a Verizon aircard for his laptop.  His wife now has a netbook and they want to know if they can us his aircard in her netbook?  I tried to tell them how to setup a wireless hotspot, but neither of these people are that knowledge of computers much less setting up wireless networks.  So when he isn't using the card, she wants to be able to plug it in her netbook and go online.
    Thanks!

I hope you are using the correct terminology in your question.  To clarify, an aircard could be a USB modem which can only connect to one computer at a time.  There are no restrictions on the number of computers you connect to the USB modem, but only one can connect at a time by design.  A netbook is a special computer designed in partnership with Verizon to have a wireless modem built into it.  There should be no need to use an additional USB modem with a netbook.
    Verizon Netbooks:

If you want to be able to connect multiple computers to a single USB modem then you will need a special router such as those provided by CradlePoint.  CradlePoint routers have a special USB port on them which allows them to connect directly to the USB modem and rebroadcast that signal to multiple computers.  Check the statistics on the router before you purchase to make sure your USB modem is supported.
Here is a link to display many of the possible CradlePoint routers:

  • Question about using plans for more than one device

I have a Verizon wireless broad band modem I currently use in conjunction for my lap top. I am looking at getting a cell phone soon and I am curious if I can use that plan, that is currently attached to the modem, with this hypothetical cellphone as well, or if I would need get separate plans for both devices.

If you want to keep your data from being merged, you will need to have separate iCloud accounts with separate IDs.  You can still track your devices using Find My iPhone, you will just need to be signed into the iCloud account for the device you are trying to track.  You can also continue to share the same ID for iTunes purchasing; it does not need to be the same as the ID used for iCloud.
In order to migrate your daughter to her own account, on her phone go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  (This will only delete the account from her phone, not from iCloud.  Your devices will not be effected by this.)  When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, choose Keep On My iPhone.  Next, set up a new iCloud account using a different Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom).  Then turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge.  This will upload her data to the new account.
You can then go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the data you don't want from each account (such as deleting your daughter's contacts from your account, and vice versa).

  • Use of same iTune for more than one iPod

I need to find out whether I can use the same itune in one computer for more than one iPod nano and one iPod video?

I looked at the article, but it doesn't help me know how once I have downloaded onto a nano, for example, the itunes knows that the next thing I connect is something different. My son hooked up his 20GB ipod last night after updating his sister's nano and now the itunes thinks his ipod is a nano. How do I get the itunes to recognize his ipod as the 20GB it is?

I received a message on my iPhone saying that some charges could be applied due to activiation of iMessage. My question is: why have I been charged now, if I had already activated iMessage and I have been using it for more than a year.

We are basically users and can't really help with activation. So unless a staff member can check in, you need to speak to Customer Service.

  • ITunes plus songs - Can I use it in more than one computer?

    Hi,
I"m planning to buy songs from iTunes. Now that the songs are iTunes plus, is it possible to copy the song file to a different PC and upload it to iTunes?
I've been used to buying songs from Amazon as it is MP3 format and wondering if iTunes plus offers the same flexibility as MP3 format when it comes to using it in multiple devices/machines.
Any thoughts on this is appreciated.
    Thanks
    SN

+"I've been used to buying songs from Amazon as it is MP3 format and wondering if iTunes plus offers the same flexibility as MP3 format when it comes to using it in multiple devices/machines."+
Yes you can copy the iTunes Plus songs to other machines.
I wouldn't quite say it has the "same flexibility," however. The Amazon songs, being MP3s, can be played in virtually any player, program, or phone, while the iTunes songs, being in AAC format, are more likely to run into incompatibilities. But if you are talking about other machines running iTunes, then it will not be a problem.

  • Can you install itunes on more than one computer?

    Hi all,
I want to install the software for my first-generation ipod mini on my friend's computer, but I heard somewhere that you can only install the software on one computer and obviously I also want to be able to use it with my own computer as well. Can you install itunes software that comes with your ipod mini on as many computers as you want or only one?
    Many thanks,
    Samantha

Sure you can. But instead of using the (more than likely) outdated CD, see the iTunes Download Page
