Can I use lightroom 1.4/1.4.1 without damaging my files?

I've been contemplating purchasing lightroom and from what I've seen of it I like it, however from what I've read on these forums, I don't know if I can!
I'm an amateur who takes a few thousand pictures per year with a canon 300d. I shoot in jpeg and want to use lightroom to tag my photos and manage my pictures.
If this is all I intend to do, will lightroom damage my files? Delete makers notes? Do I need to wait till v2.0? Or is it up to the task?

use the P, U, X keyboard shortcuts to add pick flags
use numbers 0-5 to add ratings
remove photos from collections
let others see a collection by making it public, sharing to FB etc, giving them the Adobe URL
add new originals to LrMobile by dragging them from the other computer's folders and dropping them in the browser - the newly uploaded file will be automatically added to your main catalogue. Try this, it's got lots of potential uses.

Yes, but it is extremely poor setup.
The TC does not have to be the main router.. normally you can plug it into the main router and simply bridge it and leave the wireless off even.. it then sits there as a dumb network drive.
If you setup the TC with no internet connection then the computer that backs up to it, must lose internet connection while doing backups.. In stand alone simple setup the TC as router. and ignore all the issues with disconnected WAN. When you want to backup change over the computer wireless or ethernet to the TC.
It is clunky and you will lose the whole advantage of time machine.. automated backups.
I recommend you simply buy a USB drive. it is faster, more reliable and less costly.

It should be much easier to re-link in the Pagemaker file, as, with any luck, you can get the filenames from the Graphics Manager. After conversion to InDesign, any out-of-date linked images get their names converted to something like "image 123.jpg", and are themselves converted to an embedded low res representation of the image. Even vectored art. Pretty hard to figure them out, unless you are VERY familiar with the file, which you may be.
It may be that any cropping gets lost, too? I do prepress work, we do some set up for our customers, but most comes in pretty much ready to go, so I don't often have to did too deep into fixing such issues. On the other hand, any problem that can happen has probably crossed my desk, or it seems that way some days!

My wife and I both have the iPhone 4 and it's actually pretty simple. Add another user on your MBA (her) and she can use the other iTunes when she is logged in. The iTunes is empty and will erase her iPhone, so be sure that she syncs her iPhone, then back up her library onto a portable media device like I did (SD Card) and reload it onto her empty iTunes on your MBA before she attempts to sync with it.

Now I've bought me a MAC and would like to install Lightroom on the MAC either. Do I need a second subscription for MAC or can I use my subscription on the MAC and PC simultaneously?

If you are asking if you can be running the subscription software on the two machines at the same time, the answer to that is no. Per your license you can only be using one of the installations at a given time.
If you are asking if you can have the software installed and capable of being used on both machines then the answer is yes... you just cannot have both machines in use running the subscription software at the same time.
