Can I use LINUX Drivers in Solaris 10...

As a beginner, I have installed Solaris 10 version 08/07 onto my system. The motherboard is ASUS M2A-VM, with integrated graphics, network interface, audio, etc...
My audio and network interface are not working... The motherboard came with a cd which has windows drivers and additional software.
It also has linux drivers for:
Audio:
Core5
Core6
Linux
RHEL4
SUSE10
Other
realtek-linux-audiopack-4.05f
LAN
FreeBSD
Linux
SCO_OpenServer6
Unixware7.x
Chipset, and RAID!
Has anyone used any of these ASUS Linux drivers with Solaris...
If so what steps do I need to take to get them to work on my system! (I hate to ask, I know you all have better things to do) Maybe you can point me to a good book that explains how to go step by step...
My question is how do I get my NIC to work (What steps do I need to follow? the sound is not an issue, as, I can do with out that. Will any of the drivers mentioned above work?) thank you in advance for your answers...

Drivers are the "connective tissue" between the Operating System and the hardware. The connections from the drivers to the OS are not compatible between different operating systems, so no, you cannot use Linux drivers in Solaris.
If the OS is similar enough you can sometimes get away with it -- example, using Solaris 9 drivers in Solaris 10. But between completely different OSes? Won't work.

  • Can i port linux drivers to solaris?

having problems with getting X to work on my laptop ..
    here are my specs:
    Gateway NX200S,
    768 mb ram,
intel Extreme 2 integrated graphics chipset
    SoundMax audiocard,*
the soundmax and the integrated graphics set are the items i'm having problems with. The integrated graphics set seems to work extremely well under linux, and the probability of having a driver made under linux for the soundmax is alot higher than it is for solaris.
here's what i'm getting to.. how hard would it be to port these drivers to linux.. would it be just a simple compile? or would i have to make some adaptations.
    thanks
    joe

I tried kdmconfig and it seemed to do the trick for the video with the exception that its recognizing it as an i810 chipset running at 256 colors but i bet i can change that later without too much trouble. I've having trouble with my trackpad initalizing, but i think i'll be able to find somthing to remedy that.
one question .. whats the real difference between this, linux and freeBSD?
    Thanks a bunch!

Can I use / find drivers for an HP Deskjet 3520e on OSX 10.4.11

Thanks for suggestion but HP Support Center don't support the HP Deskjet 3520 e.
Our old iMac wont upgrade to "snow-leopard"  -   the drivers supplied with the printer are not backwards compatible beyond IOS 10.6.  We are max-updated at 10.4.11.
Tried a "gimp" (?) set of drivers which goes through an auto-install but I can't see or select the drivers.

    Hello @BigLDavid,
    Welcome to the HP forums.
I understand that you are running a Linux operating system, and would like to use your Deskjet F2200 with it.
    I would like to help.
It is hard to give a yes or no answer with an open source operating system.
If your OS has the HPLIP software installed, you should be able to use that printer.
Chances are your version of Linux already has the HPLIP software installed.

  • Where can I find linux drivers for my laptop? Does lenovo support provides that to download?

    Dear All,
    I purchased a Lenovo G570 (Model Name: 20079).
Where can I find linux drivers for my laptop?
Does lenovo support provides that to download?
    Sincerely,

    Hello snayak
Do not worry about Linux drivers for your laptop. All needed drivers for most of the machines are on the Linux kernel. Most hardware are recognized by latest kernel. So all you have to do is install your distro and enjoy Linux.
The best way to check if all hardware are recognized is booting up a distro in live mode and test the hardware.
You can make a test with Linux Mint, and install their new and amazing DE called Cinnamon. I'm sure you will enjoy it.

    Hi Smart71,
I know it sounds complicated, but it really isn't.
You need to select the option to manually edit the disk label
    when you install solaris.
Your problem is that you have assigned 73 GB for your / (root)
and 63 GB for your swap. That's not the problem that I see. The problem is that the Solaris partition (and therefore the Solaris VTOC label inside) is only for 136GB. But the actual underlying storage is 409GB. So the entire partition and the VTOC have to be rewritten.
You only have 2 options. Either re-install Solaris, of re-partition the disk.
If you don't have a spare disk to copy root to and you want to use
the whole disk, with just one / root partition, you will need to shrink /swap
create another slice to copy root to temporarily, and then re-partition your disk. Agreed reinstalling is easiest. But moving slices around will not let you change the VTOC size.
    eg:
boot from CD into single user mode.
partition the disk so that eg:
swap is 3 GB. eg: ( from cylinder 1 to cylinder 400 )
    partition 3 is 7 GB ( from cylinder 401 to cylinder 1318 )
( if 7 GB is enough to hold all your / data )
    write the disk label out
    newfs partition 3
    mount / on /a
    mount partition 3 on /mnt
Copy everything from /a to /mnt eg:
    rsync -vaxH /a /mnt
    or
find /a -xdev -print | cpio -pdam /mnt
    umount /a and /mnt
re partition the disk so that / takes all the free space. If that were your goal, you wouldn't have to move anything. Just repartition and use 'growfs' on the root filesystem directly (while booted from CD).
eg ( starting at cylinder 1319 to cylinder 17816 )
    write disk label out
    newfs part 0 for /
    mount / on /a and part 3 on /mnt
copy everything back from /mnt to /a
Check /a to make sure everything is there.
    umount /a and /mnt
re partition the disk to make /swap 10 GB
    ( starting at cylinder 1 to cylinder 1318 )
    write disk label out.
    And that's it.
The disk you are working on is 17816 cylinders in size.
yet down the bottom you say that :
Total disk size is 53502 cylinders
That tells me there are 4 disks in the raid 5 set, and that
you have probably been presented with 3 x 136 GB disks.
That means that you should have 2 x 136 GB disks free.
Use one of these to copy your /root to. and then
re-partition your first disk and copy data back.
Or partition another disk correctly, write a boot block to it
Copy your root data to it, and boot from it.The entire disk is presented to the machine (as seen in the fdisk output), but the Solaris partition is only using the smaller portion of it. You can't create a second Solaris partition and use it at the same time, either. Only one Solaris partition can be used at a time.

  • How do can I use Jumpstart to boot Solaris from Slave Drive

    Hi all,
I have XP on Master Drive and I used Jumpstart to install Solaris on Slave Drive.
    This is the profile:
    install_type     initial_install
    system_type     standalone
    usedisk          c0d1
    boot_device      c0d1 update
    root_device     c0d1s0
    fdisk           c0d1 solaris all
    partitioning     explicit
    filesys          c0d1s0 10000 /
    filesys          c0d1s1 1111 swap
    filesys          c0d1s7 free /export/home
    cluster          SUNWCreq
Now, I specified that the boot_device is c0d1 but after the installation the boot device is c0d0 which is my Master Drive...
...when I use Windows Boot Manager to boot Solaris... it cannot find the boot files on the master drive so it runs the DCA...
... so under the DCA I have to tell Solaris that the boot files are in my Slave Drive then I save it.
...I don't want to make this change everytime
any ideas that would make this install hands free?

...don't know the answer to that but here is an alternative:
... use this as your finish script
... it changes the bootpath in bootenv.rc to point to the slave drive
    #!/usr/bin/perl
    open(INFILE,"/a/boot/solaris/bootenv.rc");
    open(OUTFILE,">/a/boot/solaris/bootenv.rc_out");
    while(<INFILE>) {
    chomp;
    #--cmdk@0,0 is the master drive
    #--cmdk@1,0 is the slave drive
    s/cmdk\@0\,0/cmdk\@1\,0/g;
    print OUTFILE "$_\n";
    #...replace bootenv.rc_out with bootenv.rc

  • Is it possible to use linux drivers to get a pluscom USB to ethernet adaptor to work.

I'm grasping at straws here, the adaptor it seems has only linux and windows drivers and I'm avoiding having to return it, given the dramatic difference in price between these adaptors and the official apple onese for a device with the same functionality it'd be best to get these working. I found an open source website with drivers for other brands which are said to work for devices not of the particular brand the driver is said to be for as well but there's no guarantee. I'd try these out but none of those on offer are for the right chipset (ADM8515) so I think it would be very risky to try running drivers that are open source, not from the developer, and are for a different chipset.
The cd that came with the device has linux drivers, Mac OS x and linux are in a way based on the same architecture, is there a chance these drivers are installable and would work with Mac OS x 10.6.8?

Yeh Great thanks, anyone have any real answers? Incidentally it isn't my machine which shouldn't really be of any importance to the discussion as I'm asking for technical advice about the Mac OS x system. But yeh thanks your glib remarks help a great deal.

  • Can I convert Linux library to Solaris?

Im sun user. using SUN FIRE V1280.
I got free crypto library compiled on Linux. Im using solaris sparc.
I couldn't run this code, due to different archeticture.
How to convert this library to solaris sparc, so that i can run it.
the library file extention is ".a"
    Thanks in advance

You cannot convert a binary created for an x86 platform for use on a SPARC platform.
See if you cant get a Solaris/SPARC version of the binary. If not, maybe you can get the source code and build it yourself.

  • Can i use linux

have LV for linux 5.1 but i would like to use a GPIB board 778032-01 in that enviroment, can GPIB driver support that or what do i have to download?

The NI suite I received from NI includes an RPM for GPIB. It is installed in /etc/rc.d/init.d/ and so if installed, should run on boot. If it doesn't then you need to run, in su mode# service gpib start
I have run everything NI successfully on the Mandriva distro.
I have to admit that it took two years of asking to receive the CDROM from NI. :-(

TV tunner, forget it there is'nt a Linix driver for it yet.
    Bluetooth NO PROBLEM
First turn on your wireless card.
2nd runn the command toshutils -b I think
toshutils is a support program for toshiba laptops.
you also need to have the bluetooth drivers loaded on your machine.

  • Linux support on Solaris 10 x86

When we are trying to run linux binaries on solaris 10 getting the following error:
    update_records: Cannot find /lib/ld-linux.so.2
    update_records: this is linux binary.
Whereas Solaris 10 features states that we can run the linux binaries on solaris 10 natively. Let me know in which release of solaris 10 do we have support for linux libraries

That feature doesn't exist yet. It's suppose to come in a future update of Solaris 10. Your only option if you want to run Linux binaries natively is to use "lxrun"--otherwise get the source, if possible, and recompile.
