Can I use my 2013 27'' iMac as a monitor for my Xbox 360

It's all in question really, I'd like to use my imac to play my Xbox. Does anyone have any ideas?
Cheers
Ollie

Hi Ollie,
As far as I know the Xbox only outputs Analog, & the iMac requires not only Digital, but since 2011 requires a Thunderbolt cable... so no.

  • Hi. Can I use a new 27 iMac as a monitor for my PC?...

... Not as a dual setup, but as a sole monitor to flick between the two?
    I have a PC running windows 7 with a Nvidia 560ti GPU.
Due to lack of space, I would like to use the iMac as both an iMac, and then flip to the PC for gaming. Is this possible?
I have googled it and only found answers for dual screen setups. Thanks
    Scott

Depends on the iMac.  What you need is something that supports video input into the Thunderbolt ports.  If you can find that, then you can view it in the iMac.   http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3924 explains it further.
Mind you, I still think it can be just as fast directly on the iMac, since there is no hardware being emulated as software.

  • How can i use my smart TV as a second monitor for my Power mac (2010) via HDMI cable? i've made the connection but no options show in system prefs display.

How can i use my smart TV as a second monitor for my Power mac (2010) via HDMI cable? i've made the connection but no options show in system prefs display.
    the computer:Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.9.5), 2 x 2.66 Ghz 6-Core intel Xeon
    the TV: LG Smart tv

The Mac uses a highly-parameterized universal Driver for every display. The parameters are set at certain times when a query is sent to your display. The display MUST answer with its name and capabilities, or the screen stays dark. A TV set that is off or "not paying attention" because it is set to a different port when the query occurs will rarely answer, and so will often remain dark.
You can use tools in the System Report to see whether your display has been detected at all. If it has, the report will look something like this, but its name will appear:
The times when the query is sent are:
    • at Startup
    • at wake from sleep
    • when the Mac-end of the cable is inserted
    • when using the Option ( Detect Displays ) button in displays preferences

  • Can I use my 27" late 2013 model iMac as a monitor for a gaming console through some sort of input cable?

I just bought a 27" iMac for college and I was curious if it was possible for to use my iMac as a screen for a gaming console to forgo buying a TV.

If the fuction is not addressed in this Apple article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3924
you can't do it. Target Dispaly mode is a Mac-to-Mac function, and then only with late-model computers.

  • Can I Use My 21.5 iMac as a Monitor ?

Hi all. I want to connect a pc to my imac 21.5" mid 2011. I will use the pc for gaming. Found some thunderbolt supporting motherboards. So I wonder that can I connect a pc to my mac and use my mac just for monitor ? Thank you.

    Note:
Can I use the iMac in TDM as a display for my gaming console, DVD player, or other device?
The Mini DisplayPort port on a supported iMac can receive DisplayPort compliant video and audio signals. Converters not made by Apple may provide options to convert other electrical, video, and audio protocols to Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt compliant signals.
So the big question is whether or not you can get the Apple Store to get you the supporting cable/converter.
If you can't find one that will, http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/ may have some guidance.

  • Can I use my early 2009 iMac as a display for a 2012 Mac Mini

If I buy a new 2012 Mac Mini, 2.6Ghz can I use my existing iMac (early 2009 - 24inch) as a display or do I have to go and purchase separate display ?
If the answer is yes, can someone explain what leads I would need to buy and if there are any disadvantages to doing this.

The short answer is no.  If it was a late 2009 you could.
The long answer is you could possibly use it via Screen Sharing,
Apple Remoter Desktop, or other VPN type of network display mirroring.
Redraws depending on the software being run won't be all that great
but could suffice for general purpose use.
You will however have to have a monitor to do at least the initial
    setup of the Mini.

  • Can I use My Ibook G4 as a Second Monitor For My Mac Mini G4

    Hi
I wonderd if theres any way of being able to use my 14'' Ibook G4 as a second monitor for my Mac Mini G4? I already have a Samsung SyncMaster 913n. Is there any way of doing this by firewire using both monitors, if not what cables would I need?
    Thanks

There is a application called Synergy which you may find useful. It allows the keyboard, mouse and clipboard to be shared across computers, and even different operating systems. It's not strictly what you have asked for as each computer still runs it's applications (and operating system) separately, meaning you can not drag windows between the screens, but by allowing you to copy and paste between the computers, and seamlessly slide your mouse and keyboard input between them you may get the effect you desire. Oh, and it is free and open-source, so why not give it a whirl?
You will need to connect the machines with a TCP/IP network, which can be done either with an ethernet patch cable, or alternatively as you suggest, using FireWire - these two articles may assist you in setting that up: IP over FireWire in Panther and Tiger.
As a point of note, a commercial program, MaxiVista allows exactly what you are looking for under Microsoft Windows.
    Hope that helps.

  • Can I use my Pavilion HP7 as a second monitor for my workstation?

  • Can you use the iPhone 6 Plus as a monitor for DSLRs?

I just got my iPhone 6 Plus and it would be great to use its gorgeous display as a monitor for my Canon 5D mark III when filming on steadicam (the rear screen on the camera is generally not very useful for filming, so one needs a monitor).
Is there a way to connect the 6 Plus to my 5DIII and have what the camera sees on my iPhone screen? And are there brackets to fix the iPhone onto the flash shoe?

Nope.  As far I'm aware, the HDMI out from your camera will show content the camera has already taken, not a live view of shots.  It might show live video if you're shooting a video, but I think you want to use the camera screen as the LCD for photographs, right?  You download pictures to your iPhone via the Camera Connection kit and your memory card.  You can't connect a camera via chord to see what the camera sees.  There would be no way for Apple to incorporate software that works with every camera out there.  And there's no standard for using other devices as a monitor for cameras.
Check with Canon or do a lookup in the App Store for Apps from Canon that are specifically for your 5d MarkIII.

  • Can I use my flat panel tv as a monitor for my iMac?

    Is this possible?

Yes, in most cases yes.  Determine what interface you have on your iMac.  It's probably a Mini Display port.  If your TV has HDMI than what you would need is a MiniDisplay port to HDMI adapter and a standard HDMI cable.

  • How do i Use my old 2009 imac as a monitor for my new 27 inch 2014 iMac?

Just got the 2014 27-inch iMac, and i have a 2009 iMac as well as a ViewSonic Monitor with a Thunderbolt adaptor.
Is it possible with the 2 Thunderbolt display ports to have 2 extra monitors?...So far on the ViewSonic works. I tried to use Migration Assistant to Transfer files, and the 2014 saw the other computer, but the 2009 just kept looking for a connection while it was connected by Thunderbolt.
At a local Mac store, i asked this question, and when they confirmed the the 2014 had 2 Thunderbolt ports, that i would be able to use the old iMac and an additional monitor.
    Please Help,
    Thank You

  • I want to use my laptop (ibook g4) as a screen for my xbox 360...

    ...can this be done?
can hdtv cables link into the ibook g4 and display on the screen? (with extra cables, I would guess.)

dudes and dudettes, i bought elgato hybrid thingy and it plays tv in my ibook. the only thing is that the tv window is this itsy-bitsy tiny thing two-by-two inches. so everything is microscopic.. when you go into full screen mode the image quality droped enough that i wondered if i had drank too much wine while i was hooking this device to my computer. anyway, i am basically wondering if anyone can recommend a way to improve the video picture resolution with some kind of a maybe new video card or something else?....
many thanks in advance for your inputs!

  • HT1338 is there a way to use an iMac as a monitor for a Mac Book?

I want to use my new 27" iMac as a monitor for my MacBook Pro. How can I do this?

It's very easy. You just need a Thunderbolt wire and then connect your MBP with your iMac. That's it.

  • Using the Mac as a wireless Bridge for the Xbox 360

Want to use your Mac essentially as a wireless adapter for an Xbox 360 or any console? plug in the ethernet cable between the two devices and follow the setup process!
    Wireless Bridge setup process
    1. Open system Preferences.
    2. Clisk sharing, then the internet tab and select Airport as the “share your connection from” then select the Built-in Ethernet in the list.
    3. Open up the terminal Application and type ifconfig en0 in the window it sohuld display an outcome like this
    ifconfig en0
    en0: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
    inet 192.168.2.1 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.2.255
    ether 00:16:cb:cc:80:aa
    media: autoselect status: inactive
    supported media: autoselect 10baseT/UTP <half-duplex> 10baseT/UTP <full-duplex> 10baseT/UTP <full-duplex,hw-loopback> 10baseT/UTP <full-duplex,flow-control> 100baseTX <half-duplex> 100baseTX <full-duplex> 100baseTX <full-duplex,hw-loopback> 100baseTX <full-duplex,flow-control> 1000baseT <full-duplex> 1000baseT <full-duplex,hw-loopback> 1000baseT <full-duplex,flow-control> none
    4. This gives you the information of what your computer’s IP address is. On the xbox dashboard in the network setup screen select manual and select the top section which contains the IP address, subnet mask, and Gateway address, for the IP address, input the Highlighted section above plus one, so its 192.168.2.1 (this is for standard configurations, again, just add one to the last digit of your IP address.
    5. Open Airport Admin Utility, the select configure on your airport. Then select the Internet tab This will give you your subnet Mask, input accordingly.
    6. For the Gateway address, you are going to put in the value in the blue box. This is because you are using your Computer as a gateway, therefor you need to tap into its connection.
So For the Average setup you will use:
    IP Address: 192.168.2.2
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway Address: 192.168.2.1
    7. Now for the DNS server, this varies according to What internet service you have, but, Airport admin utility provides the answer, right below the information we used above, you will see DNS Server. viola! Put that in as your primary DNS server in the second box of edit options in the network menu.
Now you should be complete, test the connection and you should be Ready to Go!! Happy Gaming!

    Welcome to the discussions, DanSwiggsD!
If you have a non-Apple device as your main router, unfortunately the AirPort Extreme has almost no chance of compatibility with your main router.
If you do have an Apple router as your main device, please post back with your model number and we'll let you know how your devices should be configured.
If you don't have an Apple device as your main router you have a few options to connect the xbox:
    1) A pair of ethernet powerline adapters could be used if you did not want to run a regular ethernet cable from your main router to the xbox.
    2) The new AirPort Express 802.11n model does have a feature called Proxy STA which should allow it to receive a wireless signal from any wireless router and allow the ethernet port to be enabled.
