Can I use my airport to connect to Internet with my Mac?

So I currently don't have internet on my iMac right now and so I tried connecting an airport express and making the airport join my current wireless network (since I don't think iMacs can join wifi by themselves), and I entered all the information about the wireless network I want to join, but when I reset my airport to these configurations my iMac can no longer connect with my airport so I'd like some assistance, and if it turns out trying to do this is impossible, I would also like to know that too, thanks.

There are numerous iMac models; which exact model do you have as most of the later models have built-in wireless capability? To find out, you can use System Profiler by first clicking on the Apple icon in the upper-left corner of the menu bar, and then, selecting the "About this Mac" option.
If your iMac actually does not have wireless and your AirPort Express Base Station (AX) is an 802.11n version, you could configure the AX as a wireless Ethernet bridge. Apple calls this a ProxySTA. In this configuration, you would configure it to join an existing wireless network (like you already did) but enable it to support a wired client. You would then connect the iMac directly to the AX by Ethernet.

  • Using my 8330 to connect to internet with a MAC & PC

I have two laptops, one is a Mac Pro - newest computer to the family. And the other is a PC running Windows XP.
I have the software loaded on PC to use my 8330 as a modem to connect to the internet.
My question is can I load the same software onto the MAC pro notebook and use as a modem with the mac as well. I started to do this from the Net, but decided since it appeared different, I would ask you guys first. Do not know if anything gets sent to the phone when it is connected to the PC that would be different on a MAC ?
    anyone know ?

    Hi,
    Late edit. Led you wrong.
You can't use the BB as a tethered modem straight up on the MAC, it might be possible with paralells to Windows XP as you suggested.
I remembered a KB that I read concerning MAC's and tethered modems.
    Thanks,

  • Can i use my airport extreme as a modem with comcast

can i use my airport extreme as a modem with comcast cable

No, since there is no modem on board an AirPort Extreme, so you will need to use an outboard modem if you want the AirPort Extreme to have Internet access.

  • Can i use the airport express in my hotel with wired connection?

I'm going to be traveling quite a bit coming up and staying in hotels with wired internet connections in the room.  Can i use the airport express to connect with the hotel's internet connection and then my ipad and/or iphone 4S?  I'm new to Apple products so will certainly appreciate any info that may help.  Thank you!

You will need to have AirPort Utility installed on the iPad and/or iPhone. It is free on the App Store
    App Store - AirPort Utility
Connect the AirPort Express 802.11n to the hotel Ethernet jack using an Ethernet cable
Power up the AirPort Express and wait 40-45 seconds
Tap Settings, then tap Wi-Fi on the iPad
Tap the AirPort Express under the heading of Set up an AirPort Base Station
AirPort Utility will take a moment to to analyze the connection and then you can proceed with the easy guided setup
Once the AirPort Express is configured, you should not have to set it up again at the next hotel. But, you could if you want to.

  • Can I use my airport express to establish wifi with Motorola SB6120 SURFboard DOCSIS cable modem?

Can I use my airport express to establish wifi connection with a Motorola SN6120 DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem?

Yes, the AEx goes into router mode.. plug in via ethernet to the modem port.. you then need to power cycle the cable modem.. it might need to be off for 20min or more before it will lose the previous connection and start afresh with the Express.

  • Can I use my apple wireless mouse and keyboard with my Mac Mini and Windows PC?

Hello, I recently dug up a windows PC computer for side projects, and I was able to get by using my wireless apple keyboard and mouse for my Mac mini, and then using a usb mouse for my PC, I want to eliminate the usb keyboard and mouse and just use the bluetooth keyboard. Both computers are usually on all the time, and the windows PC uses a bluetooth adapter. I can get my keyboard and mouse to work on both, but I have to sync them to whatever system I would like everytime I want to use it. Is there any solution that when I choose the Mac Mini my keyboard and mouse will work for the Mac mini, and when I choose my windows pc, the keyboard will only be used on windows without having to resync?

    To my knowledge, no.

  • Can I use a USB superdrive DVD reader/writer with a mac pro?

The internal CD/DVD read/writer in my macpro (2 x 2.66 ghz dual-core xeon) broke, so I purchased an external USB superdrive, thinking I could use it as an external drive. It does nothing when plugged into the mac pro, I cant even insert a disk. It seems to not even have power.
Anyway I now see the device (superdrive) is intended for a macbook air or mac mini.
Am I toast? Is there no way I can get this thing to work with the mac pro?
I dont think I can return it, I've already discarded all the packaging.
    Thanks for any advice.

I agree it would not take a lot of time, 2 minutes perhaps for the world record holder, for me more like 10 perhaps, not including the time involved in purchasing the drive, figuring out how to recycle the old broken one that comes out, etc.
However the key point is that if I can get this drive to work, the cost will be $0, as I've already paid for it. So I would be most interested in doing that, if possible. If it's not possible, then I'll have no choice to pay $30 or however much, for a new one.

  • Can I use a airport express to get internet connection to a Mac Mini that doesn't have wireless by adding it to my existing wireless network?

I bought a first gen Mac Mini for our daughter and it doesn't have internal airport adapter and was wondering if I got a airport express can I plug it in my daughters room and use it as a local router and just use the eithernet connect from it.  Or would a airport extreme work better for this job.  I have a wireless cable modem that we connect to.  I also have a second question I have a iMac G4 that picks up the wireless signal but will not connect to it does it have to be a Apple airport for it to work or should it be able to connect to any broadcasted signal.  Thanks for the help.

I'm not sure I quite understand. Do you wish to use the AEX to provide a wireless connection for a device that has an Ethernet port but no wireless capability of its own? You wish to use it in place of a wireless card that isn't internally installed? If so, the answer is, "Yes." It will work as a wireless access point. But you must have an extant wireless network because the AEX won't have an Internet connection when used in this way.
If you have an existing wireless network with a wireless router connected to your cable/DSL model or your modem is a wireless router as well, then the AEX may connect to it in bridge mode. Note that AEXs don't always play nice with non-Apple routers. Some work; others don't.

  • How can I use my Airport to block a particular IP or MAC?

I have a MacBook Pro running OS 10.9.5 connected via WiFi to an 4th generation AirPort Time Capsule.  I think that this is also an an AirPort Extreme, but I am not sure.  Anyway, here is the problem: I want to block access to my local WiFi network from two or three unidentified users.  Thanks to Who's On My WiFi, I have an IP and a MAC address for each.  If I remember correctly, this was possible in the old days (circa 2008) by using some of the more advanced settings in AirPort Utility.  I opened Airport Utility today and it appears to have been simplified to the point where you can't do much with it these days.  Is there a way to accomplish what I want to do that is reasonably simple?  I am not a power user.

Yes, welcome to the Fisher Price toy box utility.. where nothing in the way of advanced usage is offered.
Is there a way to accomplish what I want to do that is reasonably simple?
You can put time controls onto the offending addresses.
But if the hackers know anything at all they know how to access the MAC address of the computer and change it.. so the effectiveness of this is limited.
Change the current setup and password.. You must use WPA2 Personal and I recommend you use a pure alphanumeric password, mix case and numbers of 20 characters or more for your situation.. do not give that password to anyone.. protect the admin password of the TC itself equally well but with a different password. And protect the physical access to the TC from anyone in your home.. because the fact is all security on the TC is an illusion if the TC has open access.
See how to find passwords here.
i forgot my password for my router, how can I change them.
So anyone can discover your passwords without your knowledge and leave no trace on your system.
If you make no progress.. I suggest replacement of the TC as the main router of your network.. you need something with controls.. and even better controls that allow you to block people.
The favourite one now is older Netgear WNDR3800 . .you might need to buy from ebay although a few new ones are still around.. alternatively the WNDRMACv2 is simply the same hardware in a white box.. instead of black.
Load gargoyle firmware onto it.. sorry if I even point to where you can find this info my post will be deleted.. I can say it.. just cannot help further.. so use google.. there are lots of posts and let me assure you this get combo.
You can continue to use TC at what it does best.. a dumb wireless AP and location for TM backups.

  • Can i use wrt54g v8 to connect to internet via different router

hi i have just moved to a new house and have fios install but  they put the router in the garage i have a extra wrt54g v8 router that i want to connect my directv reciever and xbox 360 wired to the wrt54g router and wirelessly connect to my other router wich is connected to the internet  is this possible with this router

No, at least not with Linksys firmware.   The WRT54G is designed to generate a wireless network, not to connect to an existing wireless network.
The job you described is done by a device called an "ethernet bridge"  or  "wireless bridge", such as the Linksys WET200  or the WET54G.
In some cases, third party firmware might be able to convert your WRT54G to a wireless bridge.  If you are interested in this, check out "dd-wrt" and other third party firmware.

  • Can I use the Airport Express to connect to a Linksys Wireless Network and then use the Ethernet port on the Airport for a wired connection to a device for internet access?  Would I be able to then also use that Ethernet pt to a Ntwk Hub for more wired c

Thanks for the help.  Looked but not clear on what I am trying to do as being possible.  Can I use an Airport Express to connect wireless to a Linksys Wireless Router, such that I can then use the Ethernet ports on the Airport to either connected to a PC wired, or even use a hub off the Airport Express to allow multiple wired connections to it?
I am not looking to have the Airport Express extend my wireless network, just connect to it and provide me wired connections in a different location from where my Linksys Route is located.  Would prefer to replace Linksys with all Apple, but just not possible financially yet.  Thanks for the help.

If the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) is an 802.11n model, then yes, you can reconfigure it as a wireless Ethernet bridge. In this configuration, the AX would join the wireless network provided by the Linksys router and its Ethernet port would be enabled for either a single wired device or for an Ethernet hub or switch for multiple devices.

  • Can't use my HP Deskjet F4580 Wireless Printer with the AirPort Extreme Base. The printer is NOT connected at the USB port of the AirPort Extreme, and is placed in another room. It worked just fine with my previous router (Linksys WRT54G). Help me!

    Hey Guys!
I just got my AirPort Extreme Base, but I can't use my HP Deskjet F4580 wireless printer with it.
The printer is not connected to the AirPort Extreme's USB port. It is placed in another room, and I'd like to use it (the printer) wirelessly (not connected to the USB port os the AirPort Extreme), as I used to. There is no place for the printer close the AirPort Extreme. It worked just fine with my previous wireless router (Linksys WRT54G). I'm very disappointed with the AirPort Extreme Base Station because of that!...
    Can you help me? Please?!
    Thanks Folks!

This must be a tough one, no suggestions at all.
