I have a contract iphone 4 with O2.
I want to get a new ipad with 3G and was wondering if the sime in the iphone can be sused foir the ipad to ge the 3G Data usage?

I had an iPhone 5 Pre-Ordered with Apple but i'd of had to wait 2-3 weeks,
I recently sold my 4S so im without a Phone so need one asap,
a friend of mine is on Contract and has the 4S,
but he just upgraded and had a iPhone 5 sent to him....
well, he doesnt like the look of the 5 and prefers his 4S so said he'd sell me the 5,
he's on an o2 Contract (currently with his 4S obviously),
regarding the iPhone 5, is it just the SIM that matters or is it to do with the Serial etc?
its still all sealed and so on, box hasnt been opened, iPhone hasnt been turned on,
so if I buy it, can I simply put a PAYG o2 Sim in it and it'll work?

Buy your iPhone in the US. If you want LTE, you need to purchase a US iPhone. Not to mention warranty/support. If you purchase your phone in Europe, you won't have any warranty/support in the US.
Bottom line: Buy your phone in the US.

So he sent it to me . So my question is whether or not, will i be able to use this phone with any indian CDMA network providers ? ( It does not have a sim trey )

Since the only authorized iPhone carriers in India are all GSM, I suspect you'll have nothing but issues if you try to get a CDMA carrier, in India, to flash the phone, issues like getting iMessage or FaceTime to work, stuff like that.
If you want an iPhone to use in India, either purchase from one of the official carriers or get an officially unlocked GSM model.

I tried a lot of freebie programs, I was mainly interesting in finding one that would let me draw and type in the same app and page. I finally settled on Penultimate. Currently it is $2.99. Now, if you wanted to purely write and not mix in typing text, then your choice of option is a lot larger.
For a stylus I bought the Silver Pogo Sketch from Ten One Design for $14.95, add in $4.99 for 4-7 business day First Class Shipping, which seems a tad much. But I have been happy with it. They sell a few other stylii as well.
You can use your fingers to write, things just seem more natural and more exact using a stylus than my fatter fingertips.

All supported carriers require a data plan with the iPhone.
If your carrier will permit it, you can put a Micro-SIM in the phone that does not have a data plan. Make sure, however, that you turn off mobile (cellular) data in settings or you're going to potentially rack up some serious charges. Not to mention tha fact that you are in effect, crippling the phone.
If you're in the US, attempting to use AT&T, they will automatically add a data plan to the account when they detect you are using an iPhone without one.

Sorry, what others here have said is wrong, wrong, wrong. There is nothing about the hardware of the iPhone 4S that would prevent a Sprint 4S from being used on T-Mobile, or any GSM carrier, international or domestic. Nothing. Zero. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Each and every 4S is 100% hardware capable of doing both GSM and CDMA out of the box. The only impediment is that Sprint would have to authorize an unlock for you. This is something they simply refuse to do. If anyone at Sprint has told you that they can't unlock a 4S for domestic use with another carrier, they have lied to your face. This, by the way, is something they're doing with everyone who asks the question - just Google search "Sprint unlock iPhone 4S", and you'll see dozens of internet threads where people talk about being lied to by Sprint about this issue. The good news is that Sprint signed an agreement with the FCC regarding letting off-contract customers unlock their phones. The agreement takes effect in mid-March, and Sprint is dragging its feet until then. Last June, I bought an Iphone in France with Bouygues operator. As I have to leave for Thailand, I ask them to unlock my Iphone, I had to paid 70 euros for it. They asked me to wait about 1 week. I am now in Thailand. Yesterday, I plugged the Iphone to Itunes and I guess the unlock was done as my Iphone was updated. I bought a new SIM card from a thai company... and it doesn't work.
I went to ask to some shop and they said that my version is 3.1.2 and in Thailand it's only 3.0...Is that the reason I can't get a thai SIM card? What should I do? How can I use my french Iphone in Thailand?

If officially unlocked, you can purchase a sim from one of the two nationwide GSM carriers, AT&T or T-Mobile. However, AFAIK, none of the carriers in India offer unlocking for the iPhone. Thus, if your phone is carrier locked, the only way it will work in the US is roaming...that would cost a fortune.
So, if you have a carrier locked iPhone, leave it home or sell it before you come to the US, then purchase an officially unlocked iPhone, from Apple, when you get to the US. You'll be able to use that phone in India when you go back.

You shouldn't have a problem, I would think it would work, as long as it's a GSM (AT&T) model. It should just be a matter of swaping out the SIM cards.

Thanks for your prompt response, however I have first seen it now. I have placed an active SIM card in the iPhone turned it off and on. It now says SIM locked, please write access code. The problem is I don't remember the password. When I connect it to iTunes it tell me that I have to write the password before it can be used with iTunes...... Do you have any good ideas? I see you are from the NYC area.... used to work there back in the early 90´ Those were good days..... What a City
