Can I use my electric piano on GarageBand

Can I use my electric piano on GarageBand?
What cables do I use?
What do I click on in the app?

If you want to learn to play the piano, there are some downsides to using synthesizers or Midi controllers that do not have weighted keys.  The reason is that the weight and resistance of real piano keys require your fingers to develop strengths that you will not have by learning to play on a keyboard with plastic, unweighted keys.  Having said that, you can learn the basics of how to play, in terms of learning how to put chords together and understanding scales, but it will be a whole different ball game if you actually try to play a real piano after playing on non-weighted keys; essentially, you will have to spend time developing the strength and agility in your fingers.  So, it can be a good plan to learn by going the cheap and (small size) route by getting an unweighted keyboard, but if you really like playing the piano and want to continue on, then at some point, you need to get something with weighted keys--either a good synthesizer or electric piano, or the real thing (spinet, upright, baby grand, or grand).

you can also get a splitter cable that goes in to your in/out port so you can have 2 (or more) separate ports

  • How to connect my electric piano to my mac book pro

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me what I would need in order to connect my electric piano to my mac book pro?
I would like to record stuff in Garage band using my electric piano.
I have no idea what cables or equipment I would need, so any help would be much appreciated.
The piano I've got is a KORG EC120 and it has MIDI IN/OUT and a couple of LINE INPUTS (Though I am not familiar what to do with them! )
    http://www.harmonycentral.com/t5/News/Korg-Introduces-EC-120-Concert-Piano/ba-p/ 34631250
The mac book I like to hook it up to is a 13" Mac Book Pro (early 2011).
    Thanks!

There are many ways to do this but do yourself a favor and pick up a usb audio/midi interface. This will let you get either the keyboard voices or  Midi input (computer Midi voices) into garageband along with microphone or other instruments if you want in the future.
You will also need a cable to connect the keyboard to the interface.

down Cut menu - Slow playback/Raspid Playback/Re-play in Slow Motion and onvards
Here one can select the Pre-Set speeds
Are you familiar with getting 'inspector' to run?
No - but I guess that Double Click on clip/sequense or ctrl-Click on it might open it.

  • Has anyone used reMIDI as a plug-in for GarageBand. I downloaded a trial version of reMIDI, which enables MIDI instruments to be strummed or arpegiated, but can't get it to work in Garageband.  How do I set it up?

Has anyone used reMIDI as a plug-in for Garageband ('08)? The program allows MIDI instruments to be strummed or arpegiated. I have a trial version, but can't get it to work in Garageband. Wonder how to set it up.
    Thanks, Doctor Mark

Port Forwarding.....or Port Mapping....as Apple calls it is a difficult and complex configuration method for most users. Because there are so many variables involved in this type of setup, it is not possible to provide a step by step guide that will work for everyone with all devices.
It is possible that a setup guide exists for the the WD drive and AirPort Extreme, but you will have to go looking for it on the Internet. Even if you find one, it may not be tailored to your specific situation or needs.
Sometimes, you can do everything right....at least according to someone's article or "how to" guide, and things still will not work correctly.
In situations like this, when you really don't know what to do, you need to enlist the aid of an IT pro, who will know what to do based on your particular products and unique circumstances. Sometimes....they won't be able to get things working either due to particular circumstances.
But, before you do this, I would strongly recommend that you use a Static IP address for your Internet connection with your ISP. If you do not have this now, contact them to ask them if they offer this type of connection. Expect to pay more for this type of service, of course.

  • Just updated to '09 and can't use Garageband at all

I keep getting error messages that say "required software extensions are missing" and "garageband has detected a possible conflict between one or more third party MIDI or audio drivers." I don't have additional drivers anywhere, and I'm pretty sure the upgrade from the iLife 09 DVD was complete.
If gb does manage to fire up, I can't use it at all. I click on one thing and the multicolored ball spins for two minutes. I've tried restarting, doesn't help.
    Anyone know what's going on?

isteveus, yep, I'm using 10.5.6. MattiMattMatt, thank you for the suggestion--I took out the two GB-related files I found in preferences (com.apple.garageband.cs & com.apple.garageband.plist) and repaired permissions (which took about an hour...is that normal?).
Still having the same problems. Any other troubleshooty things I can try?
Just to confirm: when you removed the preference files, did you throw them out? It's probably a long shot, but just to make sure, you should throw them all the way out.
Repairing permissions does take longer in Leopard than it used to in Tiger, although an hour sounds like a long time even for Leopard, (after all that time, I hope it at least found a few permissions it could repair).
Other than that, if you're sure you didn't install any other drivers, perhaps it needs to be uninstalled and reinstalled (just guessing)?

  • Whether PXI can be used for Event data logging in an electrical Substation ?

Whether the NI PXI system can be used for recording digital event data with 1 ms accuracy ?Whether its DI boards support onboard timestamping ? Whether PXI can be synchronized with time pulses from a GPS receiver ?

Yes indeed, there is a digital event recorder example in developer zone, search for "digital time interval" on NI developer zone, or follow this link: http://sine.ni.com/apps/we/niepd_web_display.DISPLAY_EPD4?p_guid=B45EACE3DCA356A4E034080020E74861&p_node=DZ52336&p_submitted=N&p_rank=&p_answer=&p_source=External
In addition, we have done additional work to create a template for the LabVIEW FPGA, http://sine.ni.com/apps/we/nioc.vp?cid=11829〈=US
which has 96 digital I/O lines as well as 8 analog in. With the NI-7831R you are able to combine analog and digital events in the electrical substation.
Further, using PXI, we can synchronize with a GPS time stamp such as IRIG-B, and perform these functions all in a headless - real-time OS LabVIEW.
    I woul

you only need a plug adapter. the Apple charger is universal.

  • Can I use my old Ensoniq ASR10 with GarageBand?

    Hello:
My trusty M-Audio Keystation 49e has given up the ghost (the keys don't send MIDI signals anymore). I've tried hitting it with a hammer but, alas, to no avail.
I have made sacrifices at the altar of MIDI Monitor, etc, but the gods will not be appeased,
    Oh well.
Anyway, I dusted off my ancient Ensoniq ASR10 (it performed miracles back in the day) and am now wondering if I could use this as a MIDI controller in GarageBand. By this I mean can I use it to replace the M-Audio Keystation and play the various instruments, etc. in Garageband? Buying an M-Audio MIDI to USB adapter is a lot cheaper than buying a new M-Audio Keystation (or a even a used one). But I want to be assured it will work first before I spend the dosh.
The Ensoniq ASR10 has a standard MIDI In, Out and Thru.
    So please, anyone, any thoughts?
    Thanks

MIDI is MIDI, regardless of what device sends it. as long as the interface you buy is compatible with your OS version, it'll work, if the keyboard works.

  • Can I use the Garageband app for iPad to create a new ringtone for my iPhone 4?

I want to create new ringtones for my iPhone, and consulting Support, they explain how to do that using Garageband 9.0, but I want to know if the Garageband app for iPad can be used to do the same thing or not. The iPad uses iOS 4.3.3.

Would you be composing the ringtone in garageband or taking existing material and editing it? You could create something but then you would have to send to iTunes and format it as a ringtone there I believe

I want to record a podcast using my Mackie mixer and have the mix sent to Garageband through the USB I/0, but it doesn't seem to give me the option.
i think the first thing to do would be to check with Mackie support. two things noted on Mackie's website:
    DRIVERS::
No Driver Required for Supported Windows (PC) or OS X (Mac) Versions
    (note "supported")
    and
    For the Mac::
    Mac OS X 10.4.11 – 10.7.1
ask if their firmware currently supports OS X 10.9.x
