Can I use my friend's recovery CD?

I was mucking around in my system files trying to theme it. Long story short, I've messed up that partition. I can boot into my other hard drive okay, but this one is having errors.
Disk utility didn't fix my problem, so I plan on reformatting my hard drive and reinstalling snow leopard.
That being said, I think I lost my CD, so I want to use a friend's. He has the same model you could say (both late 2011 Snow Leopard), except mine has an i7 dual core, whereas his has a i5 dual core. Is there any possibility I could use his CD?
If not, what other options do I have?

if it is the grey installation disk, no you can not use it as they are machine specific. You can call Apple and order one for your machine.

Would my friend's dvds work to format my macbook pro to factory settings as if out of the box?
i also had windows running on my mac, i used disc utility to erase the partition for windows, not bootcamp, so the partition is empty, i cant get the main hard drive extended as it was before because it gives me a message saying "could not modify partition map because filesystem verification failed", and when i try to verify it through disc utility it says that i need to my os x dvd and repair it, if i just format it, will that all go away?

Simple answer is no.
Slightly more complicated answer;
You may be able to boot from the disc and use Disk Utility to partition and wipe the HDD (though it may not boot at all).
You can't install an OS from the other computer's discs. It simply will not allow the installation.
You would also be violating the software licence agreement.
As your originals are 10.5.x, you can buy the Snow Leopard retail installer (10.6.3) and format and install from that.

You do not need any app.
- If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.

I had a few drinks last night and apperantly I now have a passowrd that I don't recall on my iphone. I know how to restore the phone using itunes but only thing is I'm visting a friend in Vegas. So my question is if I make my BF's computer one of my five authorized computers can I use it to restore my phone or will I have to wait till I get home?

If you backed up your phone to iCloud, then you can restore it using any computer, then restore the backup from iCloud. Any media that had been synced to it from your computer won't be there until you re-sync it with your computer.
If you backed it up to your computer, you can restore it using your friends computer, but do NOT attempt to restore any backups from that machine. Set it up as a new phone so you can at least use it to make calls, then restore your data and re-sync your media from your computer when you get home.

I will open it, power it on, and call *228 and press "2" on the keyboard and activate it with MY Verizon account even though it's on his line. Now it will use my data, my number, my bill, etc...
Will this work the way I want it to? If so, will it change my bill due to LTE?
One more thing: when it first gets powered on straight out of the box, will it already be linked to HIS number or will it not be linked to any number at all (meaning it can't be used for calls, text, 3G/LTE)?

You would need to get a new SIM card and don't do *228 it will hurt the phone. You would have to brin he phone to the store to get a new SIM card.
If you do the software update you will get a lot of what the iPhone 5 has and maybe you could keep your phone untill 20 months is up. If you get a phone from another account you might not be able to put insurance on it.

Satellite A200 - can't use Vista after Product Recovery

Hello. I hope someone can help me with the following... This week I've had various issues with my laptop following a Vista update that System Restore did not fix, so I decided to go for a full Product Recovery (as I have a full backup of all my files).
So far I have used product recovery on my laptop in each of the 3 ways I can see (and more than once): without changing settings, changing settings and maximising the partition, changing settings and selecting the advance / expert option.
Each time I was able to complete the initialisation of windows, creating a new user account, etc. Once the desktop has been set up, I get a small window with a progress bar and when this completes I click the 'restart' button...
After restarting I get to the black screen that says Microsoft Corporation with the green progress bar, but it stays there for what feels like 'too long'. After a while I get a black screen with a cursor and then a blue screen for a crash dump.
If I use F8 and start in Safe Mode, the system stops at the CplIR.sys file, although hard disk activity seems to continue. After 10+ minutes I switch off.
If I use F8 and then select Repair Computer... this is what happens with each option
- Restore the complete windows operating system: after clicking OK nothing happens.
- Memory diagnostics: there are no problems with the memory
- DOS prompt: I have run CHKDSK and there are no problems with the hard drive
- Startup Repair: there are no errors,although the diagnostics say 'failed' when it sees there are no system restore points
Then on restarting I either get the black screen with cursor followed by the crash dump OR if I manage to sign in and get to my desktop, I get the crash dump as soon as I try to do something (like open the control panel).
Following instructions found elsewhere, I've tried this after removing the battery and then changing the power management options immediately after windows initialisation (ie. before clicking the restart button). No change.
I've even ignored the restart button! But still get a crash dump when I try to do something.
Any ideas?? I have spent (ie. wasted) so much time on this and don't understand what can be wrong after formatting the drive and re-loading windows image...

It is very interesting story. I have recovered several notebooks many times but I have never noticed something like this.
I must say that all you have done right and you think in right way. If I were you I would try exactly the same steps to get it work somehow.
I don't know which various issues you had before but I presume there issues were just software issues and not relevant for hardware functionality.
It is really hard to say what the problem can be. What you can try is obtain somewhere Microsoft Vista installations disc and install naked Vista to see if the same will happen again.
Anyway, the fact is that recovery images are tested and adapted for each notebook model and if the hardware is OK there is no reason for such behaviour.
Try with clean installation using Microsoft installations disc and let us know what happen exactly.

That's what I thought. But, it occured to me that, like for Apple Developer program you need to have a credit card in your own name, maybe Adobe has similar restrictions.
The credit card is functional, the friend is using it for purchasing stuff on iTunes.
In that case, is it normal for the transaction page to hang after filling in all the credit card info? I did wait for around 15 mins before closing the window. I've even confirmed that no money has been deducted from the friend's account. So, that means the transaction was unsuccessful. I just need a confirmation from someone who has purchased Creative Cloud using someone else's credit card, before trying again.

Normally the HP recovery disks don't work on a smaller hard drive either, but it may be possible in your case if HP offered a 500 GB HDD in that model series.
No guarantees though.

If I use a friends HD External Harddrive (PC) on my Mac to get the contents am I going to inadvertantly turn it to a Mac system so he can't use it it?

I have recently brought a Macbook Pro, I use several external WD harddrives and have had no problems using them on the Mac, I previously had a PC but when my friend tried to use one on his PC (after i've used it on the Mac) it wouldn't let him, I didn't know that the PC and the Mac use different systems to read the drive etc, my question is can I use my friends (PC) harddrive on my Mac to take a few items off it without turning it to a Mac system etc.

I use drives between Mac and PC all the time without problem, if you just move files from the drive to you mac you should not have any issues at all, though you might face some file system issues.
Macs prefer/use the Mac OS extended format but with a third party software like NTFS-3G you can make you mac speek windows without issues, otherwise you can have some problems reading a widows formatted drive on you mac, and a PC will not understand the OS file system.
You could also add a spotlight exception so you do not index the drive you borrowing.

I'm guessing that by simply adding a background image or watermark by default adds a separate copy to each page. Since I am intending for them to be the same on all pages except for the title page, how do I shrink the final file size of my PDF eBooks so that the image is stored once but shown on all pages?
