Can I use my iMac as a monitor to run the new HP Stream Mini?

Obviousy, I can install Windows 8 or possibly Windows 10 with a bootable disk or as a virtual machine. I might need to run windows as part of a side job. My neighbor is about to get the new HP Stream Mini which of course needs a monitor. Rather than go through the whole install/partition ordeal, I was wondering if I could hook up this Mini to my iMac, the iMac being the monitor? Yes/No?

It's not a great solution since OS X is still running underneath (powering 2 computers to only control 1).
You may find that once the PC is setup you can use RDP to share the screen & control it from the Mac if they are on the same network.

I just to mirror the laptop onto the desktop because it is more powerful, instead of getting another display for my laptop.

In theory and in a way yes, using Firewire Target Disk Mode (FWTDM) on the Mac mini and use that as your startup drive on a compatible iMac(check the link).
You would need a keyboard to start the Mac mini off in FWTDM and you would still be using the iMac specs, so it would still be your iMac's CPU and memory!
So the actual answer is in fact no as you would only be using the Mac mini's HDD and not much else.

Here's the scoop, if you want to use any iMac as an external display for a G5 Mac you have these options.
1. Target Disk Mode, only available on iMacs with Firewire:

This only gives you access to the data files of that Mac and basically treats it as an external hard disk.
2. Networking via ethernet, wireless, or Firewire, you can setup Virtual Network Computing or Remote Desktop:

3. As others have suggested, somehow to remove the VGA cable from the logicboard of the iMac and connect it to the Mac externally.

but if it don't have speakers you have to connect some amp which have optical input to get sound

I will soon be getting a new MacBook Pro with Retina display. It has an HDMI port.
My current iMac 21.5" late 2009 model seems to have a port with what looks like a little monitor symbol, next to the firewire port. And the specs say:

Does this mean that port is just for video output to an external monitor? Or is is possible to also do video in?
On the one hand it feels like a waste to use a perfectly good iMac as a monitor. But the MacBook Pro actually has better specs, and so I was wondering if it is possible anyway.

Thanks for your reply. After reading the article though, I'm still not really sure what the answer is. For example, you mention something that can be done, with some hurdles to go through, for 27" iMacs. Mine is a 21.5" iMac, but seems to have the same port you mentioned in the article. Or maybe it isn't. Anyway, I'm still not sure if it is possible after reading that. Interesting information though.
