Can I use my IPod 4Gen to restore my ITunes library on my PC?

My ITunes library has disappeared from my PC , can I restore the library with my IPod 4Gen?  I am afraid that I might lose my music for good.  I have tried searching for files and I see my music being scrolled through, but cannot find what file it is in, or unable to pull up the correct file.  I have tried going to the previous library file and its empty.  I can search a song and the song will appear, but to do that over 3000 times is what I do not want to do.  I alos have my library on my Samsung Galaxy III.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • How can I use my iPod touch to restore my iTunes library?

I recently had to reformat my computer so everything is gone. I have all my music backed up on an external drive, but can't I  just download everything off my iPhone and iTouch back into iTunes?

The music sync is one way - copmputer to ipod/iphone.
The ONLY exception is itunes purchases.  File>Transfer Purchases
You need to copy everything from your backup copy to your computer.
    The iphone/ipod is not a stoarage/backup device.

  • How can I use my iPod as source for reinstalled iTunes?

    Hello @ all.
Unfortunately I had to completely reinstall my system (WinXP Pro PC) and lost my media library!
How can I use my iPod as a source to copy all my songs and settings (incl. covers, aso) to iTunes?

can u guys help me with that?
    Thanks very much!

The transfer of purchased content to authorised computers has been introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of non iTMS content is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

    iGadget Windows Only
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
iPod Access Mac and Windows Versions
    PodUtil Mac and Windows Versions
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows Versions
    PodPlayer Windows Only
    CopyPod Windows Only
If your iPod is set to update automatically take care when connecting back to your computer and an empty iTunes. You will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Don't uncheck Sync Music it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting: Managing content manually on iPod
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are comparatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • How can I transfer my iPod touch files directly to iTunes library?

I wanted to upgrade my iPod because it is still version 4.1 . Every time I try to download apps from the App Store, most of them are only available for newer versions that's why I wanted to upgrade it. Please help me! Thanks in advance.

Follow these insructions. WHn it says to restore from backup your iPod will also be updated.
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
    Note:
A 2G can only to 4.2.1. Requires iTunes version 10.X. If a Mac it requires OSX 10.5.8 or later. With OSX 10.4.11 you can only go to iTunes 9.X which gets you as high as iOS 4.1
A 3G to 5.1.1  Requires iTunes version 10.5 or later
A 4G to 6  Requires iTunes version 10.7 or later. For a Mac, that requires a Mac with OSX 10.6.8 or later

CAUTION, if you have a 2G iPod
Before you restore the iPod make sure that your iTunes library has the version of apps that are presently installed on your iPod. Many apps have been update and the update apps are not compatible with the 2G iPod. I would do that by deleting the apps from your iTunes library and then transfer them to your iTunes library. See:

  • Can I use two apple tv's with one itunes library?

I have been looking for a way to store my DVD's on a hard drive and watch them via my Apple TV as they are taking up too much space on my shelves. My first thought was to buy a large external hard drive and rip the dvd's using Handbrake for my streaming to my Apple TV gen 3 but I remembered that I still have my original 160gig Apple TV gen 1 which pretty much works as a large iPod for movies when syncing content rather than streaming.
So my plan would be :
    1. Rip and add the dvd's to my iTunes library
    2. Manually sync the movie files to the Apple TV 1
    3. Delete the movies from iTunes to avoid using large amounts of computer hard drive space.. (this shouldn't interfere with the content on the Apple TV as syncing manually)
    4. Connect the Apple TV to my TV to watch movies.
Can I have both of my Apple TV's connected to my iTunes library?
Are there any con's to using the old 1st gen Apple TV in this manner? For instance, I know there is no HDMI connection and the processor is older and slower than the newer versions.
It would be a shame to not be able to put the 160gig of hard drive space on the older Apple TV to good use, especially as it still works perfectly.. and it was a refurb when I bought it!

We cannot comment on your plans to copy DVD's but I have a number of Apple TV 1's, 2's and 3's all working together without a problem.
On the idea of keeping your content on your Apple TV 1 and deleting it from iTunes, you may want to read my article on this topic.

  • Can't use new iPod Nano, cannot upgrade to iTunes 7, running Leopard 10.5.8?

Help!  This is a hybrid question.  I just received my iPod Nano today (the newest one, 7th generation I believe?).  I attempted to connect to my iTunes, and it prompted me to update iTunes.  I am unable to update iTunes because apparently my OS X is outdated.
I believe I am currently operating at 10.5.8.
I spent several hours trying to download the updates only to determine I need a whole other OS X, maybe Snow Leopard or Lion?  I don't believe I can upgrade to Mountain Lion from what I currently have.
I'm REALLY frustrated right now and can't find a Lion download on the Mac website.
I'm operating a white MacBook, circa 2008.  Please help.

Click here; they resumed selling it on the web store after I wrote that.

  • Use 1 ipod in more than one itunes.

I just get my 60 GB ipod brand new from apple store. Wanderfull. I heard somewere, time ago, that you can't use 1 ipod in 2 or more itunes. You have to use the ipod allwais the ipod on itunes in the same computer.
Is that true? If I don't what's gonna happen?
      Windows XP

    No, that's not true.
So long as the two computers are both Macs or both PCs you can hook up your iPod to different computers (and thus to different iTunes).
(Note: it may be possible to hook the same iPod up to a Mac and a PC, but that's going beyond my limited expertise).
All you need to do is set your preferences to "Manually manage songs and playlists".
Hook up your iPod to one computer, let iTunes open and then opne iTunes preferences. Select iPod preferences, and then click the radio button saying "Manually manage songs and playlists". This will prevent you iTunes from automatically synching your iPod library with your main library.
With this option set, you can select and drag the songs you want from the main library and onto the iPod icon in the source menu. You can then hook your iPod up to the second computer (you may need to set the "manually manage" preference again; I'm not 100% sure on that) and drag the songs you want from that library to the ipod.
    Hope that helps

If you are unable to get the iPod into Disk Mode to try and restore it, it's a very good indication, as mentioned in the article, that the iPod's hard drive is damaged and in need of replacement either by Apple or a third party repair company.

  • Can I use my iPod to restore iTunes library?

The hard drive on my MacBook Pro recently "died" and I am unable to recover any files from it. I had a new hard drive installed and want to know if there s there any way to use my iPod, which has all of my music and photos on it, to restore my iTunes library?
I am afraid to connect my iPod to my computer now, in case all of the files on my iPod disappear. Any instructions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • How can i use my iPod on two different computers?

I recently bought a new laptop and i plugged in my ipod shuffle but i cant add any new music to it because it was originally set up on my old laptop. Unlike other ipods, when i plug it back into the old laptop, there is no box to check like "Manually manage" or whatver. Is there any way for me to set up my ipod on my new laptop without restoring it to its original settings and losing all the other music?

If there is no Manually manage music setting, it must be a 1st or 2nd shuffle, not a 3rd or (current) 4th gen shuffle.  The older shuffles act like simple playlists.  You can only associate that shuffle with ONE iTunes library at a time (just as a regular playlist in iTunes belongs only to one iTunes library).
So, the answer is no.  However, you can put the songs on the shuffle currently into the new computer's iTunes library, then sync the shuffle to that library.
For songs that you purchased from the iTunes Store, you can re-download them on the iTunes Store Purchased screen.  You can also use iTunes to transfer songs you purchased from iPod to computer.
For other songs, you cannot use iTunes to transfer song files from iPod to computer.  But there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the song files are on your new computer, add them to the iTunes library by dragging the them (or the folder containing the song files) to the iTunes window.  After confirming everything is there, you can sync the shuffle to the new computer's iTunes library.

  • My mac hard drive crashed. Can I restore my iTunes library from my iPod to my new hard drive?

My mac hard drive crashed, and had to be replaced. Can I restore my iTunes library from my iPod to my new hard drive? About 2500 songs, some from iTunes store, most from other online sources or my own CDs.

To restore non-purchased music on the iTunes Store to iTunes from the iPod, you need a third-party application as Senuti > http://www.fadingred.com/senuti/ You can use others, but this has worked perfectly for me
