  • Can I use my mac mini as an apple tv

Hi I have a complete home server setup with one gaming PC and one home server PC, 2 apple TV 3rd Gen and some IP cameras. I would like to know if I can use a Mac Mini as an Apple TV. I feel the features are lacking in the apple TV as I need something with an Internet browser and something that can stream 3d movies to my TV and for the TV to recognize this content. Will it be worth it considering I have a server PC with all my movies, music, pictures and series on it. I don't own a Mac mini yet but I'm thinking of buying one.

I do not realy understand what you want to do. You can AirPlay to Mini with Reflector from the server if the serve support AirPly Mirroring
    A supported Mac
AirPlay Mirroring in OS X takes advantage of the hardware capabilities of recent Macs to deliver high frame rates while maintaining optimal system performance. The following Mac models support AirPlay Mirroring when using OS X Mountain Lion or later:
    iMac (Mid 2011 or newer)
Mac mini (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Air (Mid 2011 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Early 2011 or newer)
Mac Pro (Late 2013 or newer)
The Apple remote is very limited to what it can do with a Mini

  • Can I use a Mac mini with a VGA monitor?

The Mac mini web page lists an Apple Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter as an accessory, but the Mac mini doesn't appear to have a Mini DisplayPort.
The Mac mini also has an HDMI to DVI Adapter included, but would this allow a VGA monitor to be connected via an additional DVI to VGA cable? ie. can the HDMI port provide an analogue signal that a VGA monitor can receive?

Some Mac Minis do have mini-DisplayPorts.  In these two it is between the HDMI and the USB ports:
    (yes Thunderbolt should accept mini-Displayport).
In this one it is between the Mini-DVI and the USB ports:
Only the oldest Intel models would you need a different adapter to VGA
Those you would need a DVI to VGA adapter from Apple such as this one.  Note, DVI to VGA is converting digital to analog, and not very useful, unless your TV has neither DVI nor HDMI.  DVI is much better converted up to HDMI.  And the audio would have to come in separately.  So depending on your display model and make, you may be asking for the wrong adapter.  VGA is fine if all you are going to do is view DVDs on an old TV.  But if you want the ability to use the Dock, menubar, etc..., it is good to have a 1080p TV with built-in HDMI or better.

  • Can i use my mac mini for some users at the same time?

can i use my mac mini for some users at the same time? i mean with their own screen, mouse, and keyboard

If you're asking whether more than one user can use the computer at the same time with multiple displays, the answer is no. Other users can log in over a network with Screen Sharing, but each one will need his own computer (not necessarily a Mac.)

  • Using the mac mini with a dial up internet connection

How do I go about using my mac mini with a dial up internet connection? I am soon to be moving to a rural area and dial up will be my only internet option. Please be very specific in your answer as I am not a very tech savvy fellow. Thank you for your help.

The last time I needed to use dial up I used this amazing device from actiontec:
    http://shopping.netsuite.com/s.nl/c.ACCT122499/it.A/id.72/.f
Very hard to find one now, but it has the advantage that it connects to the ethernet ports of up to two computers, rather than using a less reliable usb connection.

The link is to a discussion started on 12/18 in the FiOS Internet forum.  Here's the link I get now, however it is different than the link I pulled a few hours ago.  If this system changes the link again, it may not work.

  • Can i use someone else iPad with my apple id

Can i use someone elses ipad with my apple id and download items?

That should not be a problem if you wish to use other's apple id for your IOS device.
However, if in the future you need to update the apps, which is needed to be done from time to time, you need to have the password of that person's apple id as well.
It is better to have your own apple id for convenience.

  • Can I use Find My iPhone with my Apple Watch?

Can I use Find My iPhone with my Apple Watch? Is there an app for it on Apple Watch? Can I add my Apple Watch to my Find My iPhone Account?

    No. No. And No.
You can 'ping' your phone and have it play a sound (even if it's muted) from the watch, but it must be in range... That's intended to help you locate it if it's nearby but you forgot where you put it, or it slipped behind a couch cushion or something.

  • Can you use a Mac Mini to share documents between several devices? iPhones, MacBooks, iPads, etc...? We are a home based business with several locations across the state and are having Google Drive issues, looking into Mac Mini options.

We are having Google Drive issues (some files won't sync) and it's causing us trouble with our business communication. Is there any way to use a Mac Mini to share documents between two people in different areas similar to google drive? Would this just be done through iCloud?

If you use Numbers, Pages and KeyNote it si very easy to sync those document among all the Apple devices. You need montain Lion on the Mac  and at least iOS 5 on the mobile devices.
I show those document on my Mac, iPad 4 and iPhone 4S

  • Using a Mac Mini with my Mac Pro

I have a Mac Pro and a Mac Mini, but only one monitor and one keyboard. Can I hook up the Mac Mini so it will appear on the monitor (like another hard drive) when I am using the Mac Pro? I would like to use the Mac Mini strictly as a storage device and be able to drag files from the Mac Pro to the Mac Mini.

Put the Mac Mini in Target Disk Mode (start while holding "T") and connect it to the Mac Pro with a FireWire cable. If you want it to always start in Target Disk Mode:

  • Can I use a Mac Mini as NAS

I have had apple handheld devices for some time but am making the change to mac computers. We currently have a near dead dell laptop with 500GB of storage. We have used 400GB mostly in photos, videos and iTunes date.
What I would like to do is buy a:
    - MacBook Air with 128GB
    - Mac mini with 1TB of storage
    - Airport Time Capsule
The reason I am buying the mini is so that I can use it as a storage device for all the photos, music and video which can be tapped into and shared by the apple TV, iPads, iPhones and MacBook. I am basically using it as a shared storage device for out media files that will benefit from backups on the Time Capsule
My question to this forum is, will it work well in this capacity? Can I easily move data from my Macbook to the Mac Mini? Can I upload photos from a camera connected to the macbook and safe them on the mini.
    Please advise.
    Many thanks,
    D

  • Possibility to use new Mac mini with an USB-DAC?

Anybody knowing anything about the possibility to use the new Mac mini with an USB-DAC. My reason for the question is that I've heard that USB3 doesn't handle sound. I'm thinking about to buy a mac mini and use it as an HTPC and signalsource together with NAIM DAC-V1.
    // Rode orm

What I have heard that there are a few USB2 audio devices that
have had some issues with USB3, but USB3 itself is supposedly
    backward compatible to USB2.
I would check with the makers of the DAC to see if there are any
    USB3 issues.

  • Can I use my mac mini as a network drive on my wireless network?

I would like to redeploy my Mac Mini to be a network server drive off of my Airport Extreme router? Is this possible? Is it difficult? How do I do it? Thanks!

Yes, you can use your Mac mini as a network file server. The mini can be connected to the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) by either Ethernet or wireless to share files to other network clients.
Please see the following Apple Support article for details on how to configure your Mac for file sharing.
