can i use my mac on power supply when battery is fully charged??

Keep the computer plugged in whenever possible.
If you keep the computer always plugged in, make sure that twice a month
run it on battery until battery level drops to about 50-40%.

IPad 4 switches off when i am using it, even when battery is fully charged.  Restore function (holding down both buttons) often does not work.  Cannot power up iPad.  I have updated software, restarted computer, but no success.  I did restore the iPad about 8 times during the past 2 weeks.  Just completed another restore.  iTunes says the the iPad has been restored and will restart automatically and appear in iTunes when it is ready.  That was 30 minutes ago.  iPad still won't start.  I am looking down the barrel of yet another fruitless restore.  What a crap product.

    Try a reset:
Hold the Sleep and Home button down until you see the Apple logo.

  • When battery is fully charged, screen says to disconnect power.  User guide makes no note of this requirement...which is right?

When battery is fully charged on MiFi6620L, screen says connect power.  User guide does not indicate this is necessary.  Which is the better way.  We always use the MiFi where we have power available.

Thank you for the response.  The MiFi works off the battery just fine.  Since the unit is our only Internet connection, we have it powered up all day so it seemed to make more sense to just leave it connected to the power source.  The unit is turned off at night, but usually not disconnected from the power supply.  That is what we did with our original unit and it seemed to be OK.

  • Can i use HP 90 watt power supply in place of my 120 watt?

I have an HP Elitebook 6930p, that uses a 120 watt power supply.  It's output is 18.5 volts and 6.5 Amps.
I have another power supply that I want to use when I take my laptop home.  It is from a different HP laptop computer and is only a 90 watt power supply.  It's output is 19 volts and 4.74 Amps.  Can I use this power supply to run my laptop?  Thank you for your help.  Al

i have hp pavillion dv6t-7000 quad edition and it has 120 watts 19.5 volts but unfortunately the charger is not working anymore, ive tried my gfs dell charger which is 90 watts 19.5 volts...its workinng on my laptop but if you play games like nba 2k13 it will gonna be so laggy or very slow....i bought 120 watts 18.5 volts smart ac adapter on amazon and its working on my laptop also but im still experiencing laggness a little bit...but its better than the 90 watts 19.5 volts of my gf...maybe that her charger makes my laptop get a lil bit slower and laggy....now im planning to reformat my laptop to put it back to its normal speed again...

  • Can I use a sony portable power supply cp-f1lam to charge an iPhone 5?

I am looking for a good portable battery charger for my iPhone 5 and I came across this one and I was wondering if it is compatible with my phone.
    Thank you

The cable supplied is incompatible, and Sony seem not to think the specifications should not include the voltage or available amperage of the product, so I could not say.
There is almost an infinite number of alternatives out there, that will state compatibility with Apple products.  Even in Apple's online store.

  • My macbook model 7.1 will not start up unless connected to power supply even when it is fully charged. Does anyone know the cause of this?

I have a 4 year old MacBook 7.1 that has worked wonderfully until today. I went to turn on my computer and it would not do so until it had been plugged into the power supply, and it was fully charged. Can anyone suggest what to do to fix this? DO I need to take it to an apple repair tech? Thanks

    Hello ssamaro13,
I definitely understand your concern with your battery not powering your MacBook when the power adapter is disconnected.  I found a couple of resources that I think might help with this.
The first thing I recommend is resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) on your MacBook:
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
Note: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
You can find the full article here:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)

If your battery is still not powering the computer when disconnecting the power adapter, the next thing I recommend is troubleshooting your MagSafe adapter using the steps in this article:

  • Will my iPad still get charged when I use my iPad with the plug in when it is fully charged?

I'm wondering if my iPad will still get charged when I use it with the plug in when it is fully charged, because some computer battery's lifespan get decreased when you use them with the plug in when it is fully charged, but is it the same thing with the iPad or does it stop charging when it is fully charged?
    Thank-you! :D

So, it would be better to use my iPad plugged in to keep my battery's lifespan? And when I use it with my iPad plugged in, will it not charge but instead use that energy from the charger to power up my iPad?
No it is not better to use it all the time when it is plugged in. Use the battery. That's what it is for anyway. See Michael Black's post above. That will wear the battery down and the performance of the battery over time.
Use it on the battery and when it needs to be charged - recharge it. If you leave it plugged in after a full charge - it will not hurt. The battery will stop charging even if it is left plugged in.
It is OK to use the device while it is plugged in - even for a matter of hours  - but not constantly or as a rule of them.

  • Can I use my Mac without a battery?

Can I use my Mac without a battery? Can I just plug it to a power source and use it lidat?
Also, if the battery runs low when I am using it, can I just plug it to a power supply to let it charge while I continue using it?
    Thank you!

Yes, you can use your Mac when charging, although it`s a bit slower compared to being in sleep mode or so.
And about using without the battery, I suggest you read this http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305336

Or go whole hog and splurge on the Apple Travel Kit, that contains enough adapters & such to purportedly enable you to power your Mac, iPod, iPad or iPhone anywhere in the world. Available at the Store.

How do i run an external monitor with my macbook and change settings so that when i close the lid the signal to the monitor is not lost and i can continue using the mac with a mouse and a wireless keyboard?

No, nothing will prevent the computer from going to sleep when you close its display except third-party hacks that are designed to do exactly that. I strongly advise against using any of those, as they may interfere with successful entry into clamshell mode (and they carry other downside risks as well). Just wait until the computer is asleep (with its sleep light pulsing), then press any key on the keyboard. It sounds as though your setup is working as it's designed to do.

I want to use a video projector with powerpoint can I use my mac to drive it- and what about sound?

    Hi Scott,
You should be able to. If the projector has a speaker with acceptable sound, that's one option, otherwise powered speakers or a surround system.
What connections does the projector have?
Exactly which MBP do you have?
