Can I use my macbook as an airport for my old windows computer?

I have an old windows computer and it doesn't have wireless capabilities is it possible to plug an Ethernet cord into my macbook to my pc and use some kind of program on my macbook to access the internet on my pc? I'm sure the answer is probably no but I might as well try.

OK, I followed the instructions and I got an internet connection on my PC! But then I restarted my PC after installing antivirus software and now I don't get an internet connection. It shows the internet as connected but when I try to load google or update my computer it gives me an error saying I have no internet connection. Any suggestions?

  • Can I use my macbook as an airport for my PS3?

OK I my PS3's wireless card is not that great, and I want a better connection. I set up my macbook to share my internet from airport to ethernet. I make a new connection setting on my PS3 and I test the connection. Nothing really happens and when it tries to obtain an IP address it fails. What am I doing wrong? Is it some thing on my PS3? Do I have to make a custom connection on my PS3?
P.S. Mods, if this isn't the right section please move it, this is the closest one I could find.

    Hi kanad,
Thanks for your reply and a very helpfull tip.
I am slightly confused for the type of router that i should go.
MTNL is providing their own router with or without wifi as we wish.
But should i go with normal modem and then connect apple airport express or
should i get a wifi modem/router from Mtnl. And then connect my Imac with wifi to mtnl router.
Which one is better option  for wifi connection.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Nilesh

  • I can't get my macbook to access shared files on a windows computer when it's connected through a wireless access point.

I recently bought a Netgear Wireless Access Point to use in the office so we can have a wireless network.  I configured the wireless network, and I am currently connected to the internet.  However, I no longer can access the shared files on the Windows computers like I could when I was hardwired in with an ethernet cable.  I've disabled all of the internal firewalls on all of the computers (and there's no firewall built into the WAP), all the computers are on the same workgroup, and I've tried accessing the computer with the shared files directly via the IP address using the instructions found here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8849.html.
My computer sees that the other computers on the network are there.  They show up in the network view from the finder.  However, when I try to connect to them, it tells me the connection failed.  When I click connect as, it says:
    "Connection Failed
"The server “PC-ASSISTANT” may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."
When I try to connect via the "connect to server" on the finder, I type in "smb://10.0.0.103/Word Processing"  It tells me:
"There was an error connecting to the server “10.0.0.103”. Check the server name or IP address, and then try again.
If you are unable to resolve the problem contact your system administrator."
I have no clue what the problem is. I'm not really an IT person or a networking guru.  Can someone please help?

Yes, but you must update to OS X Mavericks using the Mac App Store. When you do, you will see this icon in the menubar:
I hope I solved your question.

If that configuration supports Target Display mode, use it. If not, use a product such as ScreenRecycler.

  • Can I use my macbook pro mid 2012 as an external display using thunderbolt port

    Hi,
I want to use my macbook pro (mid 2012) screen as an external display for a raspberry pi using a HDMI to Thunderbolt cable, via the thunderbolt port on the macbook pro. Would this be possible? Can the macbook pro's thunder bolt port act as an input and is any additional software required?
I look forward to hearing from you.
    Thanks in advance!

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You are referring to Target Display mode. Target Display mode can only be used in 27-inch iMacs and iMacs with Thunderbolt, not MacBooks Pro > http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11302
Unfortunately, you can't use the MacBook Pro as a display. It doesn't support the monitor mode

  • Can I use a Macbook pro as a second (palette) monitor on my new iMac 21.5" ?

    Hi there,
I have a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Late 2011) and the latest 21.5" iMac 2.9GHz. What I would like to do is use the MacBook to load palettes for Adobe InDesign and Photoshop.  I see a lot of discussion about using the iMac to display a smaller screen device like a MacBook Air on the bigger screen, but I want to simply use the MacBook as extra working space.  I currently do this on my old MacPro Intel Dual-core Xeon with an extra monitor, but can I do this via Thunderbolt on the iMac and Macbook?
    thanks in advance!

  • Can I use my Imac as a monitor for my Macbook Air?

Can I use my iMac as a monitor for my Macbook Air?

Without any knowledge of the year machines you have it's impossible to answer that question. iMacs adn MBA's have been around for many years now so we have no idea of the exact specs your machine have. Remember when posting you need to be complete and paint a picture for us as we aren't there to look for ourselves. Your question should be  posted something like:
" I have a 2011 27" iMac and a 2009 MacBook Air, can I use the iMac as an external display for my MacBook Air?"
BTW what you are referring to is called Target Display Mode. Apple does support that on some 2009-2011 iMacs. You can find additional information at:
