Can I use my MacMini Snow Leopard disks when installing Windows on my iMac?

I want to install Win 7 on my iMac this weekend, but I forgot my Snow Leopard install disks at my parent's and probably won't be able to get them for a couple weeks. Those install disks were the full distribution, not the disks that came with my iMac (those disks have 10.5).
I do, however, have a new MacMini that has SL install disks. Would those be good enough? Or could I use the older 10.5 install disks that came with the iMac (it's running 10.6.2 now) and then upgrade later with the Boot Camp 3.1 exe?
Thanks!

I guess that is progress.
Can you get your DVD sent? or email the 950MB you need or postal ship on USB to get 3.0?
A lot of times drivers for chip can be downloaded from vendor.
With wireless, I think people have complained of problems even with Apple's drivers. I'm sure you don't want to but maybe a cheap wired mouse/kb for now?
When I just installed BC 3.0 it downgraded my Realtek audio, not upgrade (removing old drivers to install new is what it erroneously said).
When I bought 10.5.0 it had "2.0" but the same old BC 1.4 drivers. Then bought 10.5.6 a year later, had new drivers, not posted online, not via ASU or any update. I know people have said that new Macs have later 3.x drivers and I'm sure next summer would be better. Also, Windows 7 SP1 will be out next Aug/Sept also.

  • Can I use Tiger and Snow Leopard on my Mac Pro?

I have a 3 year old Mac Pro with 2 internal hard drives installed by Apple at the time of purchase. At present, I'm using Tiger 10.4.11. I've purchased Snow Leopard (The Family Pack with 5 licenses) and have installed it on my MacBook Pro.
I haven't put Snow Leopard on my Mac Pro since it is my main, workhorse computer and I have several older applications that aren't compatible with Snow Leopard.
My question is: Can I install Snow Leopard on my second internal drive and leave Tiger on the main drive? That way I could use either system by changing the start-up drive to the system I want to use. Is this possible, or advisable? Will it work or cause problems?
Another question: If one of the drives needs repair, could I boot up in the other drive and run Disk Utility to make the repairs instead of booting the computer from the original software CD? (I'm having a problem finding the original Tiger 10.4 System CD in my organizationally challenged graphic design and illustration studio.)
Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

  • I can't start up from snow leopard disk anymore

Ever since i upgraded to Lion, i haven't been able to start up my Snow Leopard back up drive via USB anymore?
does anyone have any ideas why this is not possible, I select stratup disk in the system preferences, but when i restart
it just boots up to the iMac drive.
    thanks

    HI
thanks for your reply an suggestions .i think i need to be more clear:)
    1. I recently bought a new iMac i7 which was preloaded with Snow Leopard
    2. I Upgraded to Lion - without doing a CCC backup of the system (wish i did now!)  - the only backup i have is on an External WD 2TB as a time machine back up.
    3. My previous HD on my MBP 13" was duplicated to my WD 1TB portable Back up Drive using CCC
         - i was previously able to boot up from this USB HD on my iMac under snow leopard, after Lion upgrade i was unable to do so.
What i want Is simply to
    1. get another copy of LION INSTALLER, and
    2. install a virtual LION Disk on my Mac then do a migration from the USB Backup of my Old system and files to the Virtual Lion Disk, so i can access all my old files on my new iMac.
Don't have time to make so many backups (I think i have too many backups of my system drives right now (probably over 5 backups from all the previous reinstalls and changing macbooks to find out what the problem was - these are all on external drives - mostly firewire). . I think I'll just have to wait it out for the Lion Update and hope that i'll be able to restart from the USB - or go to a mac shop and try to boot up from the USB.

  • Can I use a German Snow Leopard upgrade for my US iMac running Leopard?

I just read that for certain Intel based iMac's it is still possible to upgrade to Maverick. I'd need to upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard, first, to start the process. The issue is that I'm in Germany. The German Apple site sells the Snow Leopard upgrade, but I don't know if I can use it to upgrade my US iMac (early 2008/Intel based/ running 10.5.8)? Does anybody know if there is a difference between the German and the US version?

No difference what so ever other than the printing on the media.

  • How can I Tell if my Snow Leopard disk is a family pack

Last year my daughter's macbook HD crashed. She's going to school in FL, got a new HD, and I told her to upgrade the OS and get a Snow Leopard Family Pack, and send it home. I'm finally getting around to installing it and it won't work. I get to the point of selecting a HD — it says my it can't be installed on my HD, but can install it on my emergency startup parition. I ran Disk Utitlities/Repair Disk, it says it's fine. I'd rather not go through the erase disk process.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks
      Mike

Doesn't matter. Apple runs install discs on the honor system. It's up to you to follow the rules. If the one you have won't install, then there's something amiss with your installation. BTW, you show that you're running SL, so why are you wanting to install it? Try an update installer instead, such as the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
The Personal Hotspot feature using USB  should be as simple as connecting the device to your Mac via the USB cable when Hotspot is enabled.  Here is some more information regarding this feature and an article that will provide some troubleshooting steps if you are experiencing an issue.

If you are talking about installing OS X Snow Leopard on a Windows PC instead of Windows 7 then no, you cannot do that legally. And you really need to know what you are doing in order to do it illegally.

  • Snow Leopard will not install on 2008 Intel iMac

Trying to install a purchsed copy of Snow Leopard onto an Intel iMac (2008 model). System previously on system was 10.4.11. Started the first Upgrade attempt and the upgrade stopped at 33 minutes remaining - would not progress any further.
Force power down and tried again selecting Upgrade. This time it got to 16 minutes and never went further.
Next attempt I reformatted the drive, ran Disk Utility to Repair Disk (no problems detected). The ran a full install. Stops at 16 minutes.
Tried again - Partitioned drive, erased drive, tested drive, ran installer - 15 minutes - no further.
No error messages - nothing - it just sits there.
Reset PRAM, reset SMU - same thing after another attempt.
This system was running fine under 10.4.11. We just wanted to upgrade it to 10.6 for application compatibility requirements (10.5 or higher required to run latest version of application).
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Next I'd run the AHT (Intel-based Macs: Using Apple Hardware Test) - if that picks up any hardware issue then you don't need to waste any more time troubleshooting. (Run the long test in the AHT, maybe loop it overnight if you're not in a hurry)
After that I'd boot the machine in target disk mode (How to use and troubleshoot FireWire target disk mode) and boot the other machine to the install disk - you should then be able to install to the first iMacs HD, it'll show up with a firewire symbol when you "select you destination".
If still having trouble, then I'd go into disk utilty, erase tab, options and select the "zero out data"" option. Then click the erase button. This will write to every byte on the HD, so an additional test of the integrity.

  • "No bootable disk" when installing Windows 7 on Macbook Pro (HDD caddy)

    Here's the deal.
    I have a 2011 Macbook Pro (8,1) that I bought a HDD caddy for.  It's beautiful.
I replaced the superdrive with a 1tb hard drive and it's wonderful.  I want to install Windows 7 via bootcamp on it.  I go through the steps (create install usb, download extra files, partition the drive) and once it restarts I get the following error:
I press keys, reinsert the usb stick repeatably, and finally hold down the power button to restart.  After holding down option to bring up the boot menu, this is what I get:
Where did my other disks go?!  I boot normally and check Disk Utility and, look at that, there they all are!
I've gone through variations of this for 3 days now.  Please help!

I recently ran into a very similar issue. Windows, or at least Boot Camp, will not boot into an HDD that is installed in the optical drive bay. I do not know why this is, or if there is a way to fix it; all I know is that as soon as I moved my HDD back to the HDD bay, Windows started booting again.
Boot camp has many issues with MacBooks whose optical drives have been replaced, which are well-documented on the web. This article (and its comments) describe many of them, and the workarounds that people have found for them. That said, I think that Boot Camp has improved with Mountain Lion (or possibly with the continued proliferation of optical drive-less machines from Apple), because I was able to boot the Windows installer just fine from the optical drive that I had removed and placed in an external USB enclosure. (Not that it did me any good - I received the dreaded error 0x8030024 when I tried to actually install Windows.)
What worked for me was to install Boot Camp before removing my optical drive, use WinClone to make a copy of that installation, and then clone the image back to the drive once I'd gotten my drives in place.
    So, in summary:
Try putting Boot Camp on the drive that's in your HDD bay.
The article I linked describes many of the issues you might run into and provides workarounds for them.
Worst case, you may have to reinstall the optical drive in order to install boot camp, then use WinClone to move the installation to any drive you wish. (Hang onto this image for all future Boot Camp installations.)

  • Using an answer file (unattend.xml) when installing Windows, to change the FolderLocations setting

For training purposes I have been given the task of installing Windows 8 with the Users Folder on a different drive in a virtual machine using Hyper-V. I have created an autounattend.xml file on Windows System Image Manager and set the FoldersLocations
ProfilesDirectory value to B:\Users, B being the new drive I created, unsure if that is correct or not. From here I've saved the file to a USB drive to try and load during the installation process but am unable to have the VM recognize the USB. This
is where I am stuck. I'm hoping I've done everything correctly up to this point but if not would like to know how to fix any issues as well as where to go from here. Thanks for the help!

Hyper-V does not have native support for USB drives.  There are a couple workarounds I've seen such as this one:

  • Can I use have booth Snow Leopard and Tiger on my mac mini?

I have a newer Mac Mini with OS 10.6.5, and I have a Quark Xpress program that won't work on this newer version. Is there a way to install the older Tiger 10.4.11 and toggle back and forth between the two OS's so I can use my Quark program? I really don't want to spring for the expensive update.

    Hi
I'm not tired but fair comment all the same. Posting links to other threads is common on these boards as you already know. Only you would know why you think it's off-putting? I personally don't have a problem with it. My response was to the other poster. The link I posted was to give the OP as much information as possible (is that not being helpful?) rather than the simple Yes or No. I made no mention of using search terms or anything else. Forums ToUs already deal with it which OP should have read.

  • If I buy a dvd copy of elements can I use that serial number or Key to install it on my imac that does NOT have a DVD drive?

Buying the DVD is less expensive but I don't have a DVD drive.  So I want to know if I can use the serial number or product key from the box to license a trial download?

It should work.  You can always contact Adobe Support if it doesn't.

  • How can get a new OS Snow Leopard install disk? Please be specific.

Where can I get a new Snow Leopard OS X install disk? I'd appreciate anything you have to say.

You can purchase Snow Leopard by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will receive physical media - DVD - by mail.
Third-party sources for Snow Leopard are:
    Snow Leopard from Amazon.com
    Snow Leopard from eBay
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.

I do not have a high speed internet connection. How can I get Mountain Lion on a disk for install on my 24" Imac?

As long as you use your Apple ID to purchase it, I don't see why they wouldn't let you download the installer on one of their Macs and put it on a pocket drive.
Or, a friend with a high speed connection?
I agree with you about the delivery method, just trying to help you get what you want.
