Can I use my new imac bought in US in europe? 230V?

hi, do you know if I can use my new imac (latest model) bought in US in europe? 230V?

Yes of course! All Macs can operate from 100-240V, all you need is a plug adaptor. If you want when you get to your destination visit and Apple Store and buy a plug cord then you won't need the adaptor.
To verify please look at the specifications and you will see the power requirements.

  • Can you use the new iMac with FCS.

This is one of those a friend of a friend of a friend told me this.  His friend, who shoots video that's shown on a local access channel, just bought the latest iMac.  I don't know what this person's set up is or what kind of equipment is, but he claims that he might have to upgrade his cameras because he can't import the footage.  I'm interested in investing in the new iMac but hesitate because I do a lot of amateur video work (weddings, birthday parties, etc.)  Anyone heard anything about this?  By the way, I use a two year old HD Sony video camera and use FCS 7.  All video is stored on an external hard drive.

The current 27" iMac's with Thunderbolt will run the whole suite of Final Cut Studio apps just fine.  The catch will be your external Scratch Drive.  Until Thunderbolt drives ship in a couple of months, you're stuck with FW800, which barely cuts it for serious HD work.  Thunderbolt will change that.
One option is to get the configuration that has both an SSD and a 1TB 7200rpm HDD drives in it.  The SSD would be your OS drive, the HDD your Scratch Drive.  That would work fine.
As for professionals, I teach them, guys from huge cable news networks, who've been using FCP since v.1.  I'm amazed how many of them walk away even after the 1st day of class with whole new workflows.  You never stop learning in any profession.  The day you do, you're out dated.
The model of Mac you use has nothing to do with your ability to import footage.  The version of FCP you use CAN affect that a great deal, though.
Specifically what make/model camera do you plan to be using for this work?  BTW, weddings and events are a very profitable niche profession.  I have friends who make good livings for years doing only that.

  • Can I use my new iMac to control an old G4?

Before I purchased a new iMac G5, I was able to control two Macs using one monitor, one mouse and one keybord. To switch between the two Macs I used an USB KVM Belkin switch.
Can I do the same now that my monitor is the iMac monitor? Can I configure the iMac so I can access (turn on and off, etc.) my old G4 from it?
Any help, advise on the matter will be greatly appreciated.

    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   PowerMac G4

Can I do the same now that my monitor is the iMac monitor?
No. You can use the switch to switch the mouse and keyboard but not the iMac G5's monitor.
Can I configure the iMac so I can access (turn on and off, etc.) my old G4 from it?
    No
You could install Share My Desktop (VNC server) on your old G4. Then use Chicken of the VNC (VNC client) on your iMac G5 to monitor and control the old G4. However you can not start the old G4 using this interface.

  • Can I use my new iMac 20" as a monitor for for Power Mac G5?

Actually I want to buy the new iMac 20" computer with the intel and then randomly use the iMac as a monitor display for my Power Mac G5 when I am editing video and then unhook it and use the Imac as a stand alone when I'm not editing video with my Power Mac. Will this work please. Thank You

    Hello,
It's not possible to use either the iMac (Flat Panel) (G4) or the new Intel iMacs as displays. The only options would be:
VNC set-up. It's fairly low speed of refresh would probably make this undesirable for your situation: Screen Recycler (link)
A video-in device. A device like Elgato's EyeTV Hybrid (link) would not be of sufficiently high resolution to be any use for video editing.

  • Can I use my New Imac as a server and a workstation/client at the same time ?

I havea  brand new (2 months Old) Imac - 4 Gig, fully loaded and want to use it as a server using lion server app.  I want to use it for ical server, Addressbook and fileshareing with a bit more security.  I dont want to buy a new computer, just use the existing one to do these services.  At the same time, I want to still use this computer for my regular work.
There will be a few users with low traffic.  At the beggining, there will be only 1 other user for the calander, addressbook and file server.  Later it might grow to 4.
Any thoughts would be appreciated !!!
PS - Any advice on how to set this up or tricks would be appreciated
    Thanks Again

great Idea !!  Lets assume I dont want to go virtual - what is your thought on that ?
Lion Server is a "layer" on top of client. The services run in the background and do consume resources like the RAM, CPU, and HD, while you're using the computer as a client. That said, when running a VM with say VMWare Fusion you dedicate Cores and RAM to VM, even if the VM doesn't need all the CPU horsepower or RAM for your server tasks. So it may be that running a full blown Lion Server as VM along side client is more resource intensive on your computer than just running Lion Server while also using it as a workstation.

  • Can I install my new iMac's OS X Lion software on my other Macs?

I've just acquired a new iMac with the latest version of OS X installed.  I also have an older iMac and a MacBook, both running Snow Leopard and meeting all requirements to run Lion.  Can I use the new iMac's software if all the other Macs are registered in my name?

    No
The license that accompany's an installed version on a new Mac does not allow use on additional machines, but you can purchase and download a copy on one of your other machines and use it on as many as you own.

  • I am using a new imac with osx lion 10.7.5 and have bought a copy of Apple iLife 11 on dvd a so that I can install iWeb and idvd, when I click on install iLife I get a message saying "iLife.kpg was signed with an invalid certificate

I am using a new imac with osx lion 10.7.5 and have just bought Apple iLife 11 on dvd so that I can install iWeb and iDVD, as macs no longer ship with these apps. When I click on install iLife I get a message saying "iLife.kpg was signed with an invalid certificate.
Next problem is that when moving through the installer and get to custom install, as I only want to install iDVD and iWeb, I am presented with the option to install iDVD, Sounds & Jingles and iWeb, but not sure what is going on with the other 3 options iLife Support etc, they seem to be greyed out but still look like they may install over the top of the newer versions already on my imac. Is it ok for me to just go ahead and hit install? Or do I have a problem?

Yep, just install iDVD (plus sounds and jingles) and iWeb if you want it (but note that iWeb apparently won't work if you upgrade to Mountain Lion).
Then use Software Update to get any late iDVD updates.

  • Have a canon dc310 camcorder that uses mini dvd's. How can I get my new Imac to read these dvd's?Camcorder unable to connect to computer. Will a mini dvd adapter work or do I need to purchase an external dvd rom device? Which device works well with a mac?

I have a Canon DC310 camcorder that uses mini dvd's and doesn't have the ability to connect to a computer.  How can I get my new Imac to read these dvd's?  Will the mini dvd adapter work or do I need to purchase an external dvd rom device?  Which device works well with the Mac?  Do I need anything else to get the dvd material onto my mac?  Thanks!!

No DV port in camcorder.  Just a yellow AV port/hole.  I did find a Canopus ADVC110 device in a box that was bought several years ago to convert VHS tapes onto DVD's.  Can I use this with a Mac?  Could I connect a dvd player to the Canopus and transfer the disks onto my Mac?  Or, connect the camcorder via AV port to the Canopus and that to the Mac and transfer that way?  Thanks again!

  • Can I use the new time capsule running 10.68 on my Imac?

Can I use the new time capsule running 10.68 on my Imac?  I thinking of buying my first Time Capsule and wanted to get the new one.  Is it reqiured for me to upgrade my OS first?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can use the Time Capsule with your iMac. The problem is that you need AirPort Utility 6.3 to set up the Time Capsule, and it needs OS X 10.7 or later.
If you have an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad, you can connect the Time Capsule to the power adapter, open Settings > Wi-Fi, and set up the Time Capsule through it. Then, you will be able to connect to the Time Capsule.
If you haven't got any other device, upgrade OS X. Open the Mac App Store and purchase OS X Mountain Lion. While it's being downloaded, make a backup of your files with Time Machine and check that your apps are compatible > http://www.roaringapps.com
When the download finishes, the Mountain Lion installer will appear, so follow its steps. After upgrading, open  > Software Update, install AirPort Utility 6.3, open it in /Applications/Utilities and follow the steps to set up the Time Capsule

    Dee....
    It's not a virus.
Your ISP (Internet Service Provider) is redirecting your browser. Use Open DNS to avoid that. Open DNS adds security and anti phishing filters and it's free.
Open System Preferences / Preferences then select the Network tab. Click the Advanced tab then click the DNS tab.
    Click +
Enter these numbers exactly as you see them here.
    208.67.222.222
    Click +
    208.67.220.220
    Then click OK.

Yes, you can use the 85 watt adaptor. You cannot use the new adaptors because your computer is not equipped with the proper MagSafe connector. But you can use the older MBP adaptors as well as a 60 watt replacement adaptor. All can be found at Apple's Online Store.

  • What brands and type can I use for my iMac 20" internal Hard Drive?

what brands and type can I use for my iMac 20" aluminium internal Hard Drive?
can I use WD caviar black?
    is it too hot?

If you are replacing the drive because the existing one is faulty, that's one thing. If you just want more space, you should take advantage of having a decently fast and relatively small capacity drive in there now (instead of a huge drive). Get an external FireWire drive and off-load most of your user data there. Make your internal drive dedicated to mostly your OS and app files, with plenty of free space. That setup will make your iMac run more efficiently. I won't go into more detail, because I'm not answered your specific question... You can post back with any questions, if interested...
    To answer your questions...
You should be able to use any SATA 3.5-inch drive internally, but you should probably keep it at or under 1TB. The main concerns are power usage and heat dissipation. A drive like the WD Caviar Green would be ideal in terms of power and heat, but they do have slower (or variable) spin rate. I have one as an external drive (750GB) and it is amazingly quiet and cool. If I had to replace the internal drive because the current drive failed, I'd put it inside. I'll trade a bit of pure performance for the efficiency (including low noise), and these drives are more advanced with higher data density and larger cache, so the trade-off from slower spin rate may not be so bad.
You can check your current drive's model number (which is shown in System Profiler) to get the specs online. The stock drive in my old +Late 2006+ iMac is a 7200 RPM drive. The Caviar Black is a 7200 RPM drive, with a newer design. So if you want to use a Caviar Black in there, I think it would be OK.

  • Can I use my new iPhone5 in California

    Probably a stoooopid question...
But can I use my new iPhone5 in California?
Bought it direct from the Apple Store so should be factory unlocked.  Though I am a little confused by the band frequencies in america.

Sorry - been a complete muppet.
I am intending to buy a sim card when I land at LAX.  For use while travelling.
The T-Mobile all you can eat at $3 per day looks ideal to me.  Just didn't know if I can just swap the sim over.

  • Migration Assistant won't recognize my Time Capsule's sparse-bundle so I can migrate to my new iMac

    Background.......
iMac (intel core duo) hard drive crashed while backing up to time capsule. Had Snow Leopard OS 10.6 (100% up-to-date)
    2.   Purchased new iMac with Lion. 100% updated.
    3. Want to migrate from Time Capsule to new iMac
    Problem.......
    4.  Migration Assistant does not see (recognize) my sparsebundle, message says it's "possible that it is in use."  But it's not of course.
    5.  If I mount the Time Capsule from the Finder, I can see the sparsebundle I want to migrate. So, it present but the Migration Assistant doesn't see it!
    6. Time Capsule recognizes the sparsebundle of my other Mac (#2) that backs up to the same Time Capsule
    Question.......
What do I have to do to get Migration Assistant to recognize my sparsebundle so I can migrate to my new iMac?
    Thanks

I finally solved the problem by disconnecting the Time Capsule ethernet cable from the internet.  Then the sparsebundle suddenly appeared.

  • I have Old ID's that I want to delete, also I changed my ID and redeemed an ITune card with my old ID, I can't use my new ID to buy coins from the 8 Ball app

I installed the 8 Ball app using my old ID I also redeemed a 25$ ITunes card, I want to buy more coins but can't using my new ID, also the password for my previous ID keeps me from updating the apps I have, there's Justine more thing, I have been asked to put a password for an ID I don't recognize

You can't delete iTunrd accounts, all you can do is remove personal info from them and stop using them - any content that you downloaded with an account will remain tied to it.
As apps are tied to the account, you can only make in-app purchases using the account that you bought the app with - so you will only be able to make in-app purchases using the old account.
For the app update, if you don't recognise the account id is showing for the app, then did somebody else download that app onto your iPad ? Only the account that bought/downloaded an app can download updates to its apps.
