Can I use my old apple speakers with my new I mac

Can I use my old apple speakers with my new I mac

If they are the old clear globe speakers that worked with old G4 models, then no.

  • Can I use the old power supply with the new unit?

I have a second generation Apple TV. When I install the new unit next week can I use the old power supply with the new one and the new power supply with the old one? This would save some messing with cords behind the units.

    Hello:
I would definitely not try that.....  The power supplies may be compatible - or may not be compatible.  I think messing with cables is a small price to pay for not potentially frying a new device.

  • Can i use my old IPOD dock with the new G5 IPOD?

Can i use my old IPOD dock with the new G5 IPOD?

That's really good to know. I thought because it was a different thickness you wouldn't be able to, and the dock adaptor that comes with the new iPods doesn't fit into the old Photo dock.
Do you know if you can use the charger that came with the old Photo iPods? You can plug straight into the power socket, but the cable that goes into the charger from the iPod is the firewire cable, so I was thinking maybe it wouldn't work, and I don't want to try it in case I short out my iPod or something!

  • Can I use my old Apple remote on my new Mac

I just replaced my old iMac with a new 27" one.    My old Mac had one of those old Apple remote controls that used a magnet to attach to the side of my machine.     Can I use it on my new computer?
The only thing I did was pause & restart my iTunes.

If you want to control your new iMac remotely and you own a mobile iDevice, there are remote apps you can use on both your iMac and iDevice.
These apps work over Wifi and/or Bluetooth.
Apple has its own remote app simply called Remote.
Another, which I use and is very comprehensive remote app, is called Rowmote Pro by a developer called Regular & Rhythm.
If you want complete and total remote control access to your Mac, look at Splashtop Remote.
There is also a dedicated WifI and/or Bluetooth remote for Macs and iDevices by a company called Satechi.
    Found here.

  • Can I use the old MagSafe connector with the new MBP

I must say that I like the new style MagSafe connector that came with my new MBP. I would like to get an extra to leave in another room, but I'm not hot to pay $79 to Apple for one. I saw an 85 Watt old style connector on eBay for $35. Would the old style work on my new MBP? I don't want to screw it up just to save $44, but if it will work, why buy the $79 unit.
Basically, it would only be serving duty while my MBP is connected to my Time Machine.

As long as it is healthy it will work, Macaby.
Be wary of second hand units that haven't been tested though. Quite a few that haven't been well treated develop weakening of the wires at the points where they enter either the magnetic "head" or the body of the power block. At best these are likely to fail prematurely. At worst they may cause sparks to fly!
OWC sell tested second hand units for a price somewhere in between the eBay "used" price and the cost of a new one, that might be worth a look.
Be wary of cheap third party imitations. The extra few dollars is a small price to pay to avoid the catastrophic consequences that can occur if a badly made power adaptor happens to decide to start a fire!
    Cheers

  • Can I replace my old Apple ID with my new iCloud email address?

For years, my Apple ID has been associated with an external email address. Now that iCould users are given an "@me.com" email address for free, I would like to use that as my new Apple ID.
When I try to edit my primary email address using these instructions, this is the message I get:
You cannot create an Apple ID using a MobileMe account. If this is your email address, it is also your Apple ID.
I can't really figure out what this means. Is my Apple ID is permanently bound to the external email address? Seems pretty silly that I wouldn't be able to associate my Apple ID with my iCloud email...

Think of your Apple ID that is bound to an external email address as an Anonymous Apple ID account.  The email address can be changed to any other email address that is not an Apple ID, iCloud, MobileMe, Mac, etc. account.  iCloud, MobileMe, Mac, etc. accounts are just Apple ID accounts in disguise.  So the bottom line is no, but you can use both independantly.

  • Can i use an old power adapter with a new powerbook

I have an old powerbook AC adapter/charger from a previous powerbook that is dead. It is a 60 Watt charger Mod # 1184. Can I use it with the latest powerbook. It came with an 85 watt mod #1343? The shape of the connector is different but it seems to be the same kind of connection and fits fine. I haven't actually tried to use it to charge my laptop but it would be nice to have a spare charger. Thanks
    Les

There are no "new" Powerbooks any more. They were replaced by the MacBook Pro in 2006.
If the new computer is really a MacBook Pro and the old one is a PowerBook, adaptors are not interchangeable. Totally different connectors. All MacBook Pros use an 85W power supply; 15-inch PowerBooks used 45W and the 17-inch PowerBooks used 65W.
The MacBook and the MacBook Pro share the same magnetic connector, the MagSafe. Sounds like you have an older Macbook power supply--they are 60W.
A 60W MacBook Power Supply will "work" with a MacBook Pro but not fully service the computer. It will run the computer or charge the computer, but not both at the same time. I you have a very processor-intensive task running that can draw power from both the power adaptor AND the battery, you could be risking a shutdown.

  • How can i use my old airport express with my new imac and wireless hp print

i just bought my first imac (intel) and a wireless hp printer. i now realize that a wireless connection between my imac and my printer needs a router.
i have an airport express base station, which is a few years old. I can't find my documentation, so i don't know its specifications.
how can i find out the specs of the airport express i have and whether i can use it now? it says that it is model a1084 100-240v~ 0.2a 50-60 hz.
does that tell any knowledgeable people out there about the specs? can i search the apple website by serial number and find the specs?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
You can use the keyboard you want with your iMac. However, note that some keys, as the Command key, aren't present in non-Apple keyboards. For example, in a non-Apple keyboard, you have to press the Windows key because that's the replacement of the Command key of an Apple keyboard

    !! WARNING !!
    about the September 2012
    "Security Update 2012-004"
If you've got "Mail.app" in a folder OTHER THAN the root "Applications" folder,
MOVE "MAIL.APP" TO THE APPLICATIONS FOLDER
    **BEFORE** INSTALLING THE "004" UPDATE!!
Because *IF* you use OSX's integrated Software Update app from the Apple menu to do the "004" updating, and *IF* your Mail.app is NOT in the Applications folder, then buddy, you've got some sitdown fixit time ahead of ya and/or some internet tie-up time downloading the "004" update file itself.
Been through it all, already.  In fact, just got done getting my Mail back up & running. And I tried everything short of attempting to unpacking my "Mail.pkg" receipt file using... whatever... even Pacifist couldn't get it out. So that fixit "Plan D" died quick. And I'm not savvy enough to use Terminal commands to do "Plan E," so that SUDO stuff was my brick wall.
So I compressed my entire "Mail" subdirectory that contain all my emails, for safekeeping during the required surgery, or whatever would work, leaving the original Mail directory where it was. In case something bad happened in all my fixit whatevers, the one thing I *didn't* want to cross paths with was a hosed Library -> Mail folder. Then I'd be pssd. But I can wipe out that ZIP now 'cause all's well now. After 6 hrs of downloading thru a mobile broadband hotspot running at only 14KB/sec speed due to my having gone over my T-Mobile hotspot plan's bandwidth amount (throttled-down after reaching the limit, tho not cut off completely. Kinda nice, but it's a huge speed drop).
I tried moving the two Mail.app versions around, compressing them & then trashing the original so they wouldn't be recognized, blabla, even booted my Mac in Safe Mode & reinstalled the "MacOSX 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) Update Combo.dmg" update file, which in the past has fixed many problems. But after restarting, not this one.
Like a dummy who ignored knowing better, I had my Mail.app in a folder other than the Applications folder, with only an alias to that being in the Applications folder. NOT GOOD ENOUGH. The updater don't see that as nuthin special or useful.
So if you've got, like I've got, "old" icons for Mail.app (v4.5) in your Finder toolbar & in your Dock that all point to "Mail.app v4.5" in whatever folder you've got that in, other than in the Applications folder (where Apple apparently REQUIRES that it be located, and ONLY there, at least for OSX updating purposes), then after you download & autorun that "004" updater using Software Update, NONE of your pre-existing Mail icons will work. And MOST aggravatingly, **NOR** will your brand-new "Mail.app v4.6" work that came out of the "004" updating installation.  So basically, your Mail.app's... all of 'em.... are hosed. But only if you run the "004" update without your "Mail.app v4.5" being located in your Applications folder and ONLY in your Applications folder. And duplicates of Mail.app, scattered around your HDD??  Always a problem with many Apple apps.... The Apple software engineers apparently like 'em to be in the Applications folder, and in ONLY there, and ONLY the latest version, and ONLY 1 single copy of each on your entire HDD. They just don't seem to stress that enough, it appears. Kind of an oversight for them to not emphasize that, IMO...
My recommendation for this particular September 2012 "004" update:
If you run Software Update, and if you see the "Security Update 2012-004" listed as available for download, UNCHECKMARK IT.  DO NOT DOWNLOAD IT USING SOFTWARE UPDATE !  Instead, download the actual update file itself.
Same thing, only a different way of doing it. Most importantly, you'll be skipping the auto-installation that Software Update performs.
AND you'll have that update file on your HDD for future fixits, should a nasty "unfixable" problem come up.
First, #1. Do a filename search for "Mail" (Option-Command-Spacebar). Scroll down to where the "Apps" are located in the list under the "Kind" column heading. First, find your Mail.app that's v4.5. Get that bugger into your Applications folder if it's not already there. Next, Trash all other "Mail.app" apps you see in that same list that you may have elsewhere on your HDD.
    #2. Go here: https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1586
And download the actual "004" DMG update file: "SecUpd2012-004.dmg"
And of course, it's a biggie.... 270MB... so watching grass grow may be involved here if you've got a slow connection (go to a MacDonalds & do it, like I shoulda done).
    3. After downloading, I'd recommend closing down all apps, emptying the Trash, and restarting.
Then, after restarting, run Disk Utility's "Repair Disk Permissions."
Then, doublecheck that the Mail.app version 4.5 is in your Applications folder.
THEN fire up & install "SecUpd2012-004.dmg."
    Reboot.
After the reboot, your Mail.app version 4.5 in the Applications folder will have become Mail.app version 4.6 in the Applications folder, and all will be well again.
And you can dump that zipped-up "Username -> Library -> Mail" folder then, too.
    Happy Mac'in!

  • I changed my provider in the icloudwindow appears the old apple id. with the new apple id, which is working, will not accept. what i have to do?

hi, i changed my provider in the icloudwindow appears the old apple id. with the new apple id, which is working, will not accept. what i have to do?

    Actually you always use ethernet..
MBA does not come with ethernet port.. but apple sells both a cheap usb to ethernet and a much more expensive and much faster thunderbolt to ethernet adapter. With ethernet to eliminite this silly situation of setting up wireless over wireless, so if you make any change you instantly drops you off the network. Like cartoons of people sawing off the branch they are sitting on.
But you can reset.. no reset will do anything at all to the material on the hard disk. You must deliberately erase it.
Read the info because you may only need to do a soft reset. That is hold the reset for 1sec (2-3sec is fine)  as long as you don't hold it for a full reset.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3728
Even a full factory reset will not harm your files in any way, (or any further!!)
I am "concerned" that you have no backup to vital files on your TC. That is not wise. TC are no more immune to failure than any other hard disk.. (actually latest ones use the cheapest green WD drives money can buy) and keeping files in only one location is a receipe for disaster. An external drive is much more accessible.. cheaper and tend to be more reliable. There are too many things to break in the TC.. it is designed as a backup target for TM. Not a file store.
