i just upgraded to the 4s and want to give my 3s to my girlfriend to use as a ipod touch, but i don't really want her getting all my texts and stuff! how can i unlink it from my mail/text but still give it to her linked to my itunes?

Take the SIM card out of it. I got a 3s from my sister to use as an ipod touch and it did not want to sync properly on itunes and it kept trying to find a signal. Once I took the SIM card out of it & put it on airplane mode it works just like an ipod touch. Hope that helps

Sure, it will work just fine that way. Leave the deactivated sim in the phone, as you'll need it should you ever have to restore or upgrade the software on the phone. You can't activate any GSM iPhone without a valid sim in the phone.

Edit: You'll need a SIM card from the carrier it is locked to. Doesn't have to be an activated SIM card but needs to be in the phone to re-activate it. If you don't have one, ask you carrier if they have a deactivated one you can use.
