See this article: iPad: Using the iPad Camera Connection Kit
No, this canot be done, afaik. When your camera or card is connected, you will see the thumbnails in the camera pane, but not full size preview. So to browse your photos on the iPad you will need to import them to your camera roll. But you need not delete them from the camera or card after importing, so you might simply import selected photos to your camera roll from the camera grid and then delete them again from the camera roll after importing and browsing, without removing them from the card/camera.

When connecting the Camera Connection Kit to a camera or SD card all you see are the thumbnails of the photos. I suggest you review those, select the photos you might want to see full screen, then import them to your iPad. After viewing them you can always delete them if you no longer want them on your iPad.
I also suggest Keeping the photos on your camera or SD card until you import the to your computer and back them up to at least one other location.

  • What cameras  are compatible with the camera connection kit

what cameras are compatible with the camera connection kit and ipad2

I also recently bought the camera kit and found that it worked fine as long as you don't format the SD card using PC. Once I re-formatted using my camera I could once again upload my photos. that was until I switched formats to Adobe RAW, it seemed unable to upload again. So I switched to S RAW and that worked fine. Sometimes my kit won't upload photos but I find that by just re-inserting the card it works fine.
Haven't tried video yet, but I recently learned that the devices are quit sensitive to the "Format"(that needs to be FAT32, or exFAT- but in this instance it needs to be formatted by a Mac).
    Good luck

  • My iPad doesn't recognise video files when I connect my sd card with the camera connection kit. It only recognises photos from the same card

My iPad will only recognise photos when I connect an Sd card with the camera connection kit. It doesn't recognise video clips from the same card?!

Most probably because your camera records videos into MTS files, which aren't cmpatible with iOS. Read http://www.iphonelife.com/blog/87/playing-back-1080p60i60p-non-mov-videos-right- your-camera for more info and the alternatives (preprocessing ("remuxing") on a desktop etc); don't forget to follow the iVI review link at the bottom if you have a Mac.

  • Does anyone know if MOV or MP4 files from the JVC GY-HM150U will work with the Camera Connection Kit and then be readable by iMovie or similar apps?

The JVC GY-HM150U camera and others in it's line say they offer recording in two different formats:
    Native .MOV format
Fastest HD shoot to edit workflow. Edit immediately on Final Cut Pro™ or Premiere™ without conversion or transcoding
    Native .MP4(XDCAM-EX™) format
    Native File Recording
Because it uses QuickTime™ as its native file format, the GY-HM150U is the perfect choice for users of Apple's Final Cut Pro™ editing system. Both HD and SD MOV files recorded by the camcorder can be dropped directly into Final Cut Pro™, keeping them first-generation and eliminating the time-consuming process of file conversion. For users of all major NLE systems, including solutions from Adobe, Avid, Grass Valley, Vegas and Apple, the GY-HM150U supports the MP4 file format, which can be brought into your editing system without re-encoding.

and the files recorded to folders labeled "CQAV" (.MOV) or "BPAV" (.MP4), respectively, located in /PRIVATE/JVC/ off the root.
So will the Camera Connection Kit see them properly and transfer them over to Photos, and then will iMovie be able to handle them? Or is the CCK restricted to only formats derived from DSLR cameras with "DCIM" folders, as I have heard?
Any knowledge, especially first hand testing, would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,

Changes made to correct the recorded file paths.

Excuse the late post but just wondering if you came up with a solution for this problem? I experienced the exact same issue but copying the movies from Aperture into iTunes (which worked) still didn't allow them to be played on the iPad. As they had played faultlessly when imported directly from the camera connection kit!

  • HT4101 I am trying to get pictures from my I phone to my I pad with the camera connection kit but nothing happens on any of the devices help anyone

I am trying to connect my I phone to my I pad so I can import pictures from one to the other but neither one seems to react to this connection. How should I proceed?

The Camera Connection Kit USB component attaches to the iPad and the iPhone connects to this through the USB cable. The iPad should recognize the iPhone as a Camera ans show the photos on the iPhone. You can then import the photos you want.
    Other ways to do this:
You can directly transfer photos and videos via WiFi between iPhone, iPad, PCs, and Macs with an App like Photo Transfer.
    See: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/photo-transfer-app-easily/id365152940?mt=8
Or you can upload the photos and videos to the Dropbox service using the Dropbox App on the iPhone, iPad, PC, or Mac and download them to the another device using the Dropbox App on that device.
    See: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dropbox/id327630330?mt=8

  • HT4101 Is there a maximum file size that can be transferred with the camera connection kit?

I'm trying to transfer images from my Canon 5DmkII with the lightning to USB adapter and it will not transfer the 9.9MP or 21MP RAW images. Is there a size limit on the file that can be transferred?

  • Does the ipad 4 work with the camera connection kit

Is the ipad 4 compatible with the ipad camera connection kit

    Hi
We recently bought the new ipad and I bought the apple lightning to USB camera adaptor with it and plugged it into my camera and it says it requires too much power to connect so I haven't been able to use it? Haven't tried the card reader yet but I don't want to go and buy it and the same problem occur!

  • I can't use The camera connection kit with nikon coolpix s3300

The camera connection kit (USB) doesn't work with Nikon coolpix s3300

The Hero 2 will also nest folders in the DCIM folder and the camera connection kit will read the files in them.  Another option to viewing your videos in HD would be to use an app that can play H.264 video, where you will drag and drop the videos in to the iTunes File Sharing under the Apps tab.
If you've never used the File Sharing, simply keep you iPad docked to your computer, select your device, tap on the Apps tab, scroll down past the screen shot of your iPad's home page to File Sharing.  In there scroll to the app you're going to share with and tap on it to select it.  Then from your computer or straight from your GoPro, select the video(s) and drag them over to iTunes and drop them into the area under Document and you should see the files transfer to the app. When the transfer is done you should be able to see them play in a video app that can play H.264 video, I know the Flex:Player app is one of them.  VLC will play 1080p, but not very well.
