Can I use my windows format iPod mini on an apple powerbook?

I've got a pc and an iPod mini whit windows format. If I buy a powerbook can i use my ipod(Windows) whit it?

NO!!!
Uh, you are wrong.
The guy that said yes probably assumes you just want to use your ipod as a hard drive
No, I assumed he wants to use it as a hard drive as well as to upload music, notes and contacts.
You obviously do not have much experience using iPods with both Windows & Macs.
You won't be able to upload songs to your ipod with a powerbook.
Sure he can. It works fine with no problems at all.
You'd have to format the ipod with the Mac
Again, no he will not have to format it to use on a Mac.
A Mac formatted iPod can only be read by a Mac. Windows cannot read a Mac formatted iPod.
A Windows formatted iPod can be used on both Windows and Macs. Macs DO know how to read & write to a Windows formatted Ipod.
Don't risk it unless you have one of these overpriced power adaptor that Apple wants a fortune for (it's not but a small transformer, gimme a break, Apple)
You only need an AC power adapter when restoring the 1st generation Mini. The 2nd Gen mini does not require it.
And it is $29 from the Apple store. To you, that is a small fortune?

  • Windows formatted iPod Mini

    Hey everyone,
Basically, i came on here looking for info on how to change my windows formatted iPod Mini to Mac... and found how to do it! But I have one main concern, will a Mac formatted Mini still show up on a Windows machine? I know that my mini shows up on my mac at the moment formatted as windows, but still, will it work the other way round i wonder :S.
    Cheers, Ben

An iPod formatted for Mac won't run natively on a PC because the Windows OS does not support the HFS Plus file system and therefore will not see the drive. However here are third party programs that will allow you to use a Mac formatted iPod on Windows, this is one for instance: XPlay 2

  • Using a Windows formatted iPod Nano (4th Gen) with Bootcamp on a Mac(Win XP

Hey I was wondering if anyone knows if you can use a previously formatted iPod Nano (4th Gen) with a Mac that has XP Bootcamped on to it. If the Nano is placed in manually manage music with the original computer it was formatted with, will it be able to accept music, movies, podcasts, etc from the windows on the Mac or will they still be incompatible?

Well, I have 4 internal drive bays filled already, is there room somewhere for 5th one in the box? I wasn't aware of it if there is?? My mac is MacPro3,1, early 2008.
That macsales.com link is interesting but I'm not in the US (I'm in Croatia), and all those brands are supidly expensive here, that $80 esata docking station is almost $200 here... bahh. For that price I may as well buy a whole new 3TB external disk, I want to dock the old one to save money.
I've browsed around and I've found Icy Box docks, which have much more reasonable prices:
    BOX IB-110StUS2-B
    ICY BOX IB-111StUS2-Wh
    ICY BOX IB-115StUS2HC
They all claim to have OSX support... anyone have any experience with them?

  • Can I use AC charger from ipod mini on new nano???

My son had an ipod mini. He had bought an AC charger for it. I am buying him an ipod nano for his birthday (ipod mini went bad...). Can he use the charger from the mini to the nano???

Maybe, depends on the charger. It would appear that while older iPods only needed the power pins, newer ones may require the data pins to also be active for charging. Some chargers do not connect the data pins at all.
But it won't damage the Nano. It will either work fine or do nothing at all.
    Which charger is it?

  • Mac Formatted iPod Mini, want to use on PC then back to Mac?

I want to use my Mac formatted iPod Mini on a PC when I'm away for Christmas, but when I return home I want to use it on my Mac again. Is formatting the iPod to a PC required to do this? I don't want to lose all my music when I'm away because there will be no way to get it back till I return home. And, if I must format for a PC, what will happen when I plug it back into a Mac? Do I have to reformat again? Has anybody accomplished this successfully?

An iPod formatted with Windows will work with Windows or Mac.
An iPod formatted with Mac will not work on Windows. WIndopws cannot read Mac.
If you format with Windows, you will not need to reformat with Mac.

  • How can i sync my windows rformatted iPod with my new mac?

i recently switched to mac and need to use my windows formatted iPod on it is this going to be a problem or do i have to buy a new ipod also

Plug your iPod into your mac, it will say its Windows formatted, then click restore, make sure you've got all your stuff on your Mac, as restore will completely wipe it.

  • Window's formatted iPod Mini and an iMac G5

I've read somewhere once before that you can transfer your legally downloaded iTunes songs from your iPod to iTunes on another computer regardless of formatting. I can't seem to find this. I've hit the Sync button but get the message saying that everything in iTunes will erase whatever I have saved in my iPod. I have 235 songs on my iPod and don't want to lose them because the original computer that was used to download them was in Iraq (and probably since destroyed).
Is there anyway to take what's on my Window's Formatted iPod Mini and transfer it to my iMac?

    Disregard.

  • How to use Windows formatted iPod nano to move music to a new Mac?

    Hi all,
I need to transfer my iPhone's musics, songs, apps and photo, etc to the Mac and I came across this http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329" guide at Apple Support site since I owned a iPod nano.
My questions is since my iPod nano is configured for Windows will the Mac be able to read it since it's stated clearly in the guide "While a Windows formatted iPod may work on a Mac, Apple supports this configuration only with iPod shuffle."
If I follow through the guide, 1. Switch the iPod to manual update and enable disk use, 2. Locating and consolidating the iTunes Media folder, 3. Copy iTunes folder to iPod. I will still need to restore the iPod to work in Mac and end up nothing left inside meaning songs, photo all erased.
Also, anyone using third party software like http://www.fadingred.com/senuti/ Can advise if it's good to use this? And if iPod nano configured for Windows can works with this?
Need other more solution other this to transfer the mentioned data to Mac.
    Thanks.

iPhone… iPod… iPod Nano… which one it is? You are trying to transfer music from what source, using what medium, and to what target?

it's stated clearly in the guide "While a Windows formatted iPod may work on a Mac, Apple supports this configuration only with iPod shuffle."
Where exactly is this stated? I am unable to find this statement in the KB article you mentioned. And are you talking iPhone or iPod? This KB article applies only to iPod.

  • Been using Windows formatted ipod for months SUDDENLY itunes cant recognize

I've been using my Windows formatted first edition 30gb Video ipod with my Mac Pro itunes since last April when I got it. Now suddenly(before new itunes upgrade) it says it cannot identify my ipod because it is formatted for Windows and that I need to restore it, formatting it for Mac.
Why has this happened after it working fine for so long?
It wouldn't be that big of deal but I have a lot of music on this ipod that I don't have anymore in any other place.
    What can I do?

Is that something that happened AFTER you updated to iTunes 8, assuming you did?
You might try something like Yamipod, which is free and available for both Windows and Mac, that you can use to read the stuff off the iPod into your computer that isn't already in your library.

  • Converting a windows formatted ipod for use on a imac

    Hey.
Mac/ipod heads I have a quick question. I have a 80gig ipod video, that is formatted for usage on a PC. This weekend, I am getting a new computer, a iMac, and I was wondering what I would need to do to convert the ipod over to Mac from Windows.
Should I restore the ipod and just start over? And it will properly sync up to the mac? I need to make sure.
    Thanks.

No it won't ask you since the new Mac can read the windows formatted iPod just fine. But if you want to transfer your library from the PC to the Mac start here...

  • Using a Mac formatted ipod with windows itunes

Any ideas how I can update my mac formatted ipod on windows based itunes without losing all of my music? Every time I connect onto my pc I just kept being told I need to restore factory settings, yet when I connect to my mac it's fine.
    Any help is greatly appreciated

If your iPod is formatted for Mac it won't run natively on a PC because the Windows OS does not support the HFS Plus file system and therefore will not see the drive: How to determine your iPod's disk format
Macs can read Windows drives so you could restore and format the iPod on a PC then connect it back to the Mac and reload your songs. iTunes will allow you to use an iPod formatted for Windows on a Mac but Apple currently only fully supports using the iPod shuffle in FAT32 format on Mac, in other words all future software updates for the iPod would have to be carried out in Windows to maintain the formatting. Alternatively there are third party programs that will allow you to use a Mac formatted iPod on Windows, this is one for instance gets good reviews. It's a commercial program so you'll have to purchase a license to use it:: XPlay 2

  • Can I transfer my music from a Windows formatted iPod to my new MacBook Pro?

I just ordered a 15 inch 2.3 ghz MacBook Pro and I can't wait to get it. The only thing I am wondering is if I will have any trouble transferring all of my music from my Windows formatted iPod (8gb 3rd generation iPod Nano) to the new MacBook Pro. Should I be able to follow all the steps in this article without any problems?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ryan

In the iPod's user manual should be instructions on how to put the iPod into disk mode so that it will appear as an external hard drive. You can then copy your music to the Mac.

  • I have a Sony AC-U50AD charger can I use it on my ipod touch and ipad mini - there is a switch for "ipod"

I have a Sony AC-U50AD charger can I use it on my ipod touch and ipad mini - there is a switch for "ipod" - I've had the adapter for several years and I think it's ok for my ipod touch but since it pre-dates both of these products I want to try and make sure it's ok to use with them before I do use it. Thanks.

If iTunes does not see your iPod then your only hope is a data recovery company. Not cheap.
However, you may be able to get some photos by:

    - If they are in an iPod backup then restore another iPOd, iPhone or iPad from that backup. See the restore topic of:
