Can I use my WRT4GS as a wired bridge?

I'm not sure if I am using the correct terms in my subject line.
I have a Verizon FIOS wireless router. I want to connect this router to my Linksys router using an ethernet cable. Then, I want to connect my desktop computer to the Linksys router using a cable. In essence I don't want the wireless capability of my Linksys router. (I just moved to a new house. My desktop computers do not have wireless network cards. I don't want to buy a card for the desktop).
I have already connected the cable from a port on the Verizon router to the internet port of my Linksys router. Then, I connected my desktop computer (XP)to the Linksys router. In the network connections screen there are a few bytes being sent and received but there is no internet connection.
Can I use my router in this way?
If I can, what settings should be changed?
thanks

Try these steps . Access the setup page of the router by launching an
Browser and type on the address bar, 192.168.1.1 and press enter. When
it prompts for the username and password, leave the username field
empty and provide password as "admin" (Without quotes)
click on ok.
On the main setup page the ""Internet Connection Type"" should be
on ""Obtain IP Automatically - DHCP “. Click on the Save Settings
button.
Now click on the sub tab ""MAC address clone"".
- Click on enable
Click Clone & click save settings
Check WAN Ip on Status page of router ....
If getting Valid Ip .... try going online
If you are getting Ip - 192.168.1.X ...change the LAN Ip to 192.168.2.1 ....Power cycle for 3-4 minutes ...
Try going online
If still not working ...use Internet Connection type as PPPOE .... Use Username & Password provided by Service Provider ....
Click save settings....
Look for WAN IP address again under status page ... For wireless Click on wireless tab at the top and set the network mode to disabled. and save the changes.

Check - Converting Indoor Access Points to Mesh Access Points
Ethernet bridging has to be enabled for the following two scenarios:
    1. When you want to use the mesh nodes as bridges.
    2. When you want to connect Ethernet devices such as a video camera on the MAP using its Ethernet port.
    Wireless Backhaul:
In a Cisco wireless backhaul network, traffic can be bridged between MAPs and RAPs. This traffic can
be from wired devices that are being bridged by the wireless mesh or CAPWAP traffic from the mesh
    access points.
Guidelines For Using Voice on the Mesh Network
    • Voice is supported only on indoor mesh networks in release 5.2, 6.0, 7.0, and 7.0.116.0. For
outdoors, voice is supported on a best-effort basis on a mesh infrastructure.
    other factors to note:-
#you would be running on backhaul using A radio which is prone to DFS.
#CAPWAP may not tolerent enough with AWPP convergence on MAP roaming.
#CAPWAP is more latency sensitive than voice.

  • Can you use the Express as a wireless bridge?

I need to get an ethernet connection to a slingbox next to my airport express. My airport express is currently configured as a client that connects wirelessly to my netgear router that connects to my cable modem. I can play itunes on any computer to the airport express.
Is it possible to use that ethernet port on the AE to bridge my slingbox back to the netgear/cable modem?

Can you use the Express as a wireless bridge?
Yes as long as WDS is used with a compatible device.
Is it possible to use that ethernet port on the AE to bridge my slingbox back to the netgear/cable modem?
No. The Netgear base station is not compatible with Apple's WDS implementation.

  • Can i use my ipod as a wired webcam

Can I use my ipod touch as a wired webcam?  I know about the apps that use wifi - I want my ipod wired to my computer.

The only workaround would be to find a camera app that will output live video or use screen mirroring, if your iPod supports that, and then connect the iPod to a video capture device on your computer. You could then stream that captured video to the web. It's going to be a lot easier and probably cheaper, though, to just get a USB webcam.
    Regards.

  • Can i use home sharing while mixing wired and wireless connections?

I have an HP Pavilion desktop connected to my wireless router with an Ethernet cable.  My AppleTV is connected wirelessly to the 5GHz band on my simultaneous dual-band wireless-N router.  How do I share photos and music from the HP desktop to the AppleTV using Home Sharing?

I have 2 computers (and other ethernet addressable devices (printer etc) upstairs connected into a gigabit switch (d-link DG-2205) - computer A is an old 2002 G4 without wifi, computer B is a 2010 Mac mini wired into the switch. Downstairs, I have Computer C - a 2012 Mac mini connected to the fios router via wifi and there is a 1080p Apple TV connected via wifi.
Computer A (Wired switch Connection) can only see computer B's (Wired switch Connection) music library.
Computer B (Wired switch Connection) can see both computer A's and computer C's (Wireless router connection) Music library.
Computer C (Wireless router connection)) can see computer B's (Wired switch Connection) music library.
Apple TV can see computer B and C.
The problem is that computer A Is the music computer That I want to stream throughout.
If computer A and B can see each other, and computer C and AppleTV can see computer B, then why can't everyone see computer A ?
    Any response appreciated.
What version of iTunes is the Computer A running - it may not support Home Sharing.

  • Can I use airport express in a wired network to play music through my stereo?

I originally used my 1st gen AE to wirelessly stream music from iTunes on my MacPro to my home theater.  This works, but there are some good days and some bad days where there are dropouts in the music.  I have recently run Cat6 cable to my HT from my router next to my MacPro.  This feeds a Gigabit switch that feeds the ATV, receiver, bluray, HD DVD, etc.  I plugged in the AE to the switch but it still defaults to the wifi network rather than taking a feed from the ethernet switch.  I know i can (and do) use the ATV (gen 1) to steam music, but sometimes it more convenient to use the AE.  Is there a way to force the wifi on the AE off and just have it for streaming from iTunes?  Thanks.

Yes, you can configure an AirPort Express Base Station (AX) as a standalone wireless router without Internet access for the purposes of providing a Wi-Fi network for streaming. Note that any computers that will be the host of that stream would need to connect to this AX's wireless network while doing so. They would not be able to be connected to two wireless networks simultaneously for both streaming AND Internet access.

  • Using AirportExpress as wireless-to-wired bridge?, Using AirportExpress as wireless-to-wired bridge?

    Hi,
Is there any way to configure an airport express so that it connects to a wireless network and shares the connection via the wired ethernet port?
I have an iMac with a flaky airport card, but it's too far from my router to run an ethernet cable. So, and I'd like to run an ethernet cable from my iMac to my Airport Express and use the Airport Express's wireless NIC to connect to my wireless network. Is this possible? If so, how can I make it happen? (Additional details: the home network is created by an airport extreme...)
    Thanks,
    Mike

Sorry, but the older 802.11g AirPort Express Base Station (AX) does NOT support ProxySTA, and thus, cannot be reconfigured to support your wired clients. You would have to get a newer model OR reconfigure the 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) and AX for a "static" Wireless Distribution System (WDS). A WDS is typically used when you want to extend the wireless range of one AirPort with another via a wireless connection between them.
With a WDS, the AX's Ethernet port would be enabled. However, this type of WDS has two major disadvantages:
It can only operate in the 802.11g Radio Mode, effectively nullifying the advantage of having the AEBSn, and
For every base station added to the WDS, the overall bandwidth will be cut in half. So, in this case with two base stations, the overall bandwidth will be around 25-27 Mbps.

  • Can I use my time capsule as a bridge?

Basically, I have something that uses ethernet to connect to the internet, not wireless, and I don't want to put this thing in my office where my router is. My time capsule however, is right next to it, and I see it has ethernet ports on the back of it anyways. Can I siphon internet through the time capsule to this device since it's already connected to the router wirelessly?
In other words, how do i get the "allow ethernet clients" checkbox, as mine doesn't show up.
Note my router is a belkin NB750

Sorry Mad Maxx but the Apple routers are about the least hackable you can find.. there is absolutely no way to change the function..
The reason they did it is it breaks some ethenet networking rules.. due to multiple ports.. express uses it with its single port.. but wireless bridge causes devices behind the bridge to hide their MAC address which is from the outside world the routers.. this is just ignored as an issue.. but Apple decided to be pedantic.
    Work arounds..
Long ethernet cables.. yeah i know.. sort of ugly.
EOP adapters.. definitely cost money and don't work in 100% of homes.. but are good.
This is not something I have tried on the TC but WDS may leave the ethernet functional.. TC can/may/perhaps join with Belkin using WDS.. but and it is a big butt.. you cannot use security above WEP with dissimilar equipment.. it has to be recent and identical. That discounts that unless you live 2km from other untrustworthy human beings. ie all of us.
Ebay is a great source of cheap stuff.. the trick is to buy what works .. still.. and can be adapted to your task.
Most broadcom based wireless routers from a few years ago can be had for a few dollars and run dd-wrt make great bridges.. but don't pay too much as new stuff is less than $50.
If you are in Australia.. I am guessing from the Mad Maxx title..

  • Can I use the Airport Express to connect to a Linksys Wireless Network and then use the Ethernet port on the Airport for a wired connection to a device for internet access?  Would I be able to then also use that Ethernet pt to a Ntwk Hub for more wired c

Thanks for the help.  Looked but not clear on what I am trying to do as being possible.  Can I use an Airport Express to connect wireless to a Linksys Wireless Router, such that I can then use the Ethernet ports on the Airport to either connected to a PC wired, or even use a hub off the Airport Express to allow multiple wired connections to it?
I am not looking to have the Airport Express extend my wireless network, just connect to it and provide me wired connections in a different location from where my Linksys Route is located.  Would prefer to replace Linksys with all Apple, but just not possible financially yet.  Thanks for the help.

If the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) is an 802.11n model, then yes, you can reconfigure it as a wireless Ethernet bridge. In this configuration, the AX would join the wireless network provided by the Linksys router and its Ethernet port would be enabled for either a single wired device or for an Ethernet hub or switch for multiple devices.

  • Can I use Airport Express (1st gen.) as a wired access point to my wifi Network

    Guys
    I'm using 10.8.4 with the older 6.3 airport utility. I have a Airport Express A1084 (1st. Gen).
I'm trying to use it, connected to my wireless network, but have a wired ethernet cable from the Airport Express connected to a device. I tried connecting via wire to another laptop to access the web and it doesn't work.
Any ideas if I can even do this, or do I just buy a new Express Airport. I just want to extend the network using my wireless to a wired device, but don't want to run a cable, because of the distance.
    Thank you
    John

Bob, I hope you can help me too.  I have 4th generation (? - the flat, square model that was recently replaced) Time Capsule/Airport that I bought to extend my Verizon DSL dry loop modem/wireless signal througout the house and to the guest house.  I now know that it cannot be achieved due to Apple negligence in informing customers that the capsule will only extend from another apple airport product.
    My question:
Should I connect it via ethernet to my DSL modem and create a new network, but use the SAME network name, passcodes, etc?  Will that Strengthen my existing wireless signal or will both machines butt heads and duke it out, so to speak?
B/C, I did have two separate networks going for about a year, different names for each network, and suddenly, the wireless part of the Verizon DSL modem died, and Verizon replaced the entire modem with the Actiontec modem.  So I am concerned that reconnecting the Time Capsule/Airport may damage teh Verizon modem, if that is why just the wireless part of the previous modem failed.
Suffice it to say, am very disappointed in the Time Capsule/Airport.  It replaced an older, bigger Western Digital external hard drive that was so easy to use and reliable; am still using it, but it has no wireless signal boost capability, so I purchased the Time Capsule/Airport.
    Thank you for your help.

  • Can i use the airport express in my hotel with wired connection?

I'm going to be traveling quite a bit coming up and staying in hotels with wired internet connections in the room.  Can i use the airport express to connect with the hotel's internet connection and then my ipad and/or iphone 4S?  I'm new to Apple products so will certainly appreciate any info that may help.  Thank you!

You will need to have AirPort Utility installed on the iPad and/or iPhone. It is free on the App Store
    App Store - AirPort Utility
Connect the AirPort Express 802.11n to the hotel Ethernet jack using an Ethernet cable
Power up the AirPort Express and wait 40-45 seconds
Tap Settings, then tap Wi-Fi on the iPad
Tap the AirPort Express under the heading of Set up an AirPort Base Station
AirPort Utility will take a moment to to analyze the connection and then you can proceed with the easy guided setup
Once the AirPort Express is configured, you should not have to set it up again at the next hotel. But, you could if you want to.

  • Can i Use The Apple Wired Keyboard With Camera Connector Kit

Can i Use The Apple Wired Keyboard With Camera Connector Kit
    3g 64gb verizon

People report it is still possible to use a wired USB keyboard with the CCK, if you use a powered USB hub to get around the "not enough power" error message.  (I have done this with an older Apple USB keyboard my non-jailbroken iPad1 on iOS 4.3.3.)  Normally, powered USB hubs have a AC power adapter so you lose portability unless you can find a battery powered USB hub.  At this point, the (in)convinience of the USB hub becomes an issue, depending on what you get.
And wired USB keyboard were never supported for the iPad.  So there's no guarantee that it will continue to work with future iPad updates from Apple.  So best to go with a Bluetooth keyboard unless you have a specific USB keyboard that you "must" use.  If you have all the equipment already, I say give it a try.  But I would not recommend trying a USB keyboard if you have to purchase anything.

  • Can you use a wired ethernet to internet AND wireless to apple tv

since getting the appletv, i had connected it wirelessly through the apple extreme (n) base station and kept my internet setup with gigaport #1 with no problem. since the latest updates, apple tv is very sensitive....does not work if the wired ports are used and will not even show up in iTunes.....anyone having similar problems? anyone able to fix this? thanks

    thanks WC.
i saw this post and went to my account, changed it from m/c to none and saw my total update (I had recently rented 2 HD movies so my account decreased accordingly)
BUT, before I left the pay't information screen, I chose cancel instead of done. I wanted to leave my CC there for iphone purchases (and b/c we can't use GCs yet).
Anyhoo, it still worked - and I'm glad it did b/c I just purchased $100 in GCs from the latest best buy sale.
