Can I use Netgear powerline range extender with Actiontec router M1424WR-D?

We have been using FIOS internet happily with an Actiontec router (M1424WR-D) since 2008, but we have a 'dead zone' in a remote part of our home. I am attempting to install a Netgear Powerline AV 200 Wireless N-Extender kit in the dead zone room, but have not been successful. If I give a unique SSID to the extender, and do not set any encryption, I am able to have wireless connection in the room, but having unprotected wireless connection is unacceptable to me. If I use the same SSID for extender and Actiontec router, and use the same encryption key for the extender as is used on the Actiontec router, then I no longer have wireless connection in the room. I hope someone can provide some help in understanding what it is I'm doing wrong in setting up this powerline extender. Should the extender have the same SSID and encryption key? Should it be a different one? Thanks for any help.

Great news! At last I finally have been able to get a Netgear Powerline AV200 Wireless-N Extender Kit to provide wifi in the 'dead zone' in our house, and I was able to secure the network with an encryption key which I set up wirelessly, instead of relying on the 'wired' security option offered by the kit (a push-button on the side of the extender box). None of the phone techs at Netgear were able to figure out why we could not get the kit to work properly to begin with, and I finally gave up on the phone techs.
For anyone interested in using this product and who needs to set it up with a non-Netgear router, or a router that does not have a WPS button on it, please be aware that the resource CD in the box may be out of date. You will need to go to Netgear's website and download the Powerline Utility software for your device directly from the website. You will need to supply your product serial number in order to get the download. It is important to have this up-to-date software. I discovered that the up-to-date software downloaded from Netgear functioned more smoothly and allowed me to set up my encryption effortlessly. After forcing a factory reset on the extender and removing the device IP addresses associated with the initial unsuccessful attempt to create a secure network, I was able to set up the extender and secure it with absolutely no problem. The up-to-date software seemed to be the critical factor. The product seems to be working really well now and so far we are happy with it.
A word of caution when dealing with Netgear's phone techs. On some occasions when I phoned into Netgear my case was farmed out to a company called i-Yogi. I had a disturbing experience with one of the techs at i-Yogi. One of the i-Yogi techs said he could help me to set up encryption on my network using the AV200 extender, but that he needed first to gain remote access to my laptop. He also wanted access to another laptop in our house in addition to the one I was working from. This seemed odd and I refused to allow access to the second laptop. After gaining remote access he noted that I was using Norton 360 and he claimed that it was not working with my XP operating system and attempted to sell me a copy of McAfee security software at a reduced rate. He became very pushy about this. I refused to engage in this purchase and insisted that he return to the task of troubleshooting my encryption issue. At this point he still had not once attended to the configuration of the extender settings at all, but even so he refused to assist me, saying that it was not his problem that my network was not secured. It was not a good experience, and I believe he had a totally different agenda than dealing with my technical issue.

I want to extend the range of my Time Capsule, can I use Universal WiFi Range Extender, 4-port WiFi Adapter WN2000RPT?

A universal may work but reliability tends to be poor..
You are much better using another airport .. extreme or express.. even a second hand older one.
Or do not use wireless bridge or repeater.. simply run ethernet or use EOP adapters to a second WAP run independently of the main router.. it is far more reliable and far faster solution .. wireless bridge/repeater will halve your wireless speed.

Trying to extend an ActionTec router with Airport Express and am having trouble.  Is it possible to achieve or do I need an Extreme base station in order to extend the signal?  Thanks.

Yes. An AirPort can only "wirelessly extend" another AirPort.

  • Can I use Netgear to go Wireless with my G5?

Just switched from PC to MAC G5. I am trying to go wireless and also connect to the internet. I bought the airport express but didn't have an ethernet modem. Went to store to buy modem and salesman swore by the NETGEAR DG834GUK so bought that instead. I have set it up and configured, but I am not getting a green light under the internet connection. I am on AOL Silver Broadband ADSL. Would appreciate any suggestions. txs

Yes. The router that you currently have is ok. You can connect any wireless device to  the internet through it.

  • Using a Range Extender with WLC & LWAP

    Hi,
is it possible to use a Wireless range extender with a WLAN installation of LWAPs & WLC?
Is there a security setting in the WLC that prevents multiple clients connecting through the range extender?
    Any advise would be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Chris

    No.
Range extenders are horrible devices that kill your bandwitdh, increase the collision rate and would totally kill the radio management algorithm. For this reason they are not supported and you should not even look into them. They were more popular when you had very few IOS APs and the speed rates were low. I'm not sure that 11n range extenders actually exist.
Anyway, if you want to extend the range, you could look into bridging APs or mesh APs (AP not connected via wire, uses 5ghz band for backhaul transport to root AP and 2ghz to server clients).

  • I am trig to connect my apple range extender with my xfinity router

    Hi
I am tryong to use my apple range extender with my xfinity rouder, is this possible

Apple range extender? There is no such thing... Do you have an Airport Express?
Plus you have Xfinity... owned by the nations most annoying and not loved ISP.
    Good luck.
However, not all is lost, I recommend getting  an Ethernet cable and run it between the two points you wish to cover with wifi.
Plug one end into the Xfinity LAN side, plug the other end into the Airport and configure the wifi name accordingly.

  • Can i use a cisco RE1000 range extender with airport extreme

Can I use a Cisco R1000 range extender with airport extreme?

Apple's "extend a wireless network" function appears to be a proprietary feature that will only work with other Apple routers.
As far as we know, devices from other manufacturers are not compatible with this feature.
Bottom line....It would be extremely unlikely that this would work, but it's worth a try if you already have the products in hand.
    Please post on your results.

  • Using Belkin Dual-Band Wirleless Range Extender with Apple Ipad Air

Can I use the above Belkin Range Extender with the Apple Ipad on wi-fi? If so, which port do I hook up the extender to on the ipad? Thanks.

I wanted to chime in on this thread with my experince as it came up in a Google search while i had the same problem.
I actually got this working with an e4200v2 but only after hours of headache and dealing with tech support (both chat and phone)
First, I can tell you that support was nearly usless for me...the chat representative actually SIGNED OUT of chat after her intial troubleshooting steps failed to fix my problem. (This was not from lack of politeness or understanding on my end, I know it's just people trying to do their job.)
Phone support was much more thurough but still just walked me through steps I had already done on my own previously (I was formally a network tech.)  This included running manual setup both wired to my e4200v2 and wireleslly. Attempting different channels and moving the RE1000 to various spots in my house. Their conclusion was that i needed to RMA the device.
    THE ACTUAL PROBLEM:
It turns out the issue (for me at least) was not that the RE1000 was too weak but that the e4200v2 was too strong. The devices in my house that I wanted to use the RE1000 for were already getting roughly 2-3 bars (out of 5) signal and as such were not connecting to the RE1000. This means that even though the setup completed "successfuly" I wasn't getting any singal or speed improvement.
    THE FIX:
So the way I ended up getting this to work was to run the setup software with the device in a location of my house were the RE1000 was only getting about 2-3 bars of service.  (You can check this in the RE1000s firmware under "wireless").
I now have full signal and good speeds throughout my house.
I don't know if this is specific to the e4200v2 or just any router with a strong signal but my suggestion for fellow e4200v2 owners is to basically run setup with this guy as far away from your router (but within signal range) as possible.
    Cheers,
    G

  • Trying to connect a NetGear Wifi Range Extender to my existing Wifi. I have an Airport Extreme Base Station and I am also connected to a Vonage Phone Router. Any help would be appreciated?

I am trying to connect a NetGear Wifi Range Extender to my existing Wifi. I have an Airport Extreme Base Station and I am also connected to a Vonage Phone Router. Any help would be appreciated?
The Apple update Firmware for my Airport Extreme Base Station does not update for some reason? Help?
Additionally, I have an older version Airport Express that does not update with the newer Airport Utility Version 6.3 and asks me to download 5.6 to update? Is this worth it?
    Thanks

The netgear is not going to work very well.. and not at all unless it is universal wireless extender.. you cannot use WDS method.
If it does support universal wireless then make sure the airport uses a rational SMB compatible wireless name.. not an apple name which is 35 characters long with spaces and illegal characters like apostrophe.
So nice AE name.. AEwifi and actually while you are trying.. fruitlessly to do this.. use AE24ghz and AE5ghz (so different names on the different bands)
Assuming your AE is gen3 or greater.
You should also fix the wireless channel at least for 2.4ghz since the netgear is probably only going to repeat 2.4ghz so use channel 11, as a trial.
And use no wireless security as a test.. if that works.. then use WPA1 & 2.. as often old equipment using WPA2 is not compatible.
If it fails with simple name.. fixed channel and no security. Sorry it is not compatible at all.. it happens.
If your AE is G wireless or earlier model.. really the time has come for replacement.
If your Express is G wireless model it is not supported.. and is too old to bother with expect I guess if you want to run audio to a speaker.
You must use older 5.6 utility to do this.. so do you have a computer running older OS.. up to Mountain Lion it is easy to install with a bit of manipulation.. later is much harder .. or windows computer anywhere or available to you.

  • Can I use the value range as F4 ValueHelp in WebUI?

    Hi,
I have a Z-field in CustomerH. Its datatype has a domain with a fixed value range attached.
I show this field in the header of a sales order but the value help does not show up automatically.
My question is: Can I use this value range as input for the value help or do I have to code a "real" value help and attach it via the V-Getter?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    /people/tim.back/blog/2009/02/09/learn-how-to-create-drop-down-listboxes-in-crm-70s-web-client-ui
to fetch data, you can use table mentioned above. Pass domain name and language to get all values maintained in domain.

Looks liker the hard drive in my five year old iMac is about to go belly up. Was getting hardware errors, very slow startup and Carbon Copy Cloner reported bad blocks during the backup. I want to buy a new HD at a local store and have the Apple store install it. Will they do that and can I use a SATA 3 drive with my older iMac?

YEs you can use a SATA III drive but the Apple Store will not install it for you. Find an AASP and see if they'll install a drive for you.

how can you use iMessage between 3 iPads with 3 different users but only one Apple ID?

No you do not need separate Apple ID's in order to use 3 devices with one Apple ID. I use 4 devices to Message and FaceTime and all use the same Apple ID. You do need to add additional email addresses for the other devices.
Look at this very informative video for the instructions.
