Can I use Oracle Wallet to store generic passwords?

I have an application that currently stores a uid and password in a configuration file. I would like to store the password in a wallet like Database credentials. Is there any way to get the password out of the wallet other than in a SQL PLUS script?

I have an Oracle 10g (10.2) on Linux as a DB server. 
And a Apache Tomcat machine running web applications. 
Tomcat machine uses JDBC Thin driver to connect to DB server.
 
I need to create a wallet with user/password information, enable auto-login wallet, and open the wallet from the Java code to extract the password information to make the connection.
 
I've found this

 where explains how to use wallets to store certificates. I think that it is not suitable for storing passwords, but I am not sure.
 
Can you give any information on how to extract the password information stored in the wallet from Java code?

I'm running EPM 11.1.2.2 on AIX, Oracle repository, already installed and configured.
The security team would prefer to have the repository credentials stored in an Oracle wallet as a matter of policy. I believe, from my limited research, that a JDBC driver can (theoretically) use wallet. But has anyone done it in the context of the EPM services (i.e. Foundation, EAS)?
Obviously, the password is encrypted already, so I'm not sure that this really provides much of a real security benefit - except that I think that the Oracle password could be changed by updating the wallet without having to re-run the EPM configuration utility.
Any input gratefully received. Thanks!

Nothing like wanting to add another layer of complexity to an already complex world , if security is the issue then SSL should be looked at but the passwords will still be stored in the database.
I have never heard of it being done with EPM but would be interested to know if it is actually supported.

Can we use WebCenter Sites Content Store as the default content store in WebCenter Portal?
I need to create website in WebCenter Sites, all the content will be stored in Sites Content Store. I also need to integrate WebCenter Portal with Sites content store to fetch contents from the store and display it in Portal. I do not wish to purchase WebCenter Content.
Is this possible?

Well , as suggested by jiri machotka, you can go for version 11.1.1.8.0 version with proper license.
However,if you are using earlier versions than I must say that-
It's going to be very very complex and cumbersome development process al-together . (at least for me) .Because why I am telling this is -
The content repository structure of (webcenter site's CA server )is completely different from UCM (webcenter content server and preferred cms for portal).
In previous threads ,lot of things are being discussed about this issue.
In my opinion,you can very well integrate sites content to portal pages via REST API. Documentation is available.

Apart from it, you can also do -
1. Gadgets - You can consume Gadgets from WebCenter Portal, some examples with Google Gadgets are available in OTN.

I installed OID 1.1.1.5.0 and AD MS 2008 + Password Filter without other configuration about DIP.
While Install password filter, I use 'sAMAccountName' as Source Attribute (Microsoft Active Directory) and 'orclSAMAccountName' as Target Attribute (Oracle Internet Directory) instead of using objectGUID.
My Scenario test
1. setup password filter follow by 20 Deploying the Oracle Password Filter for Microsoft Active Directory
2. create user in AD
3. create user in OID
4. reset password in AD
I found that it can't send password from AD to OID.

CHeck out iTunes Match which has an annual fee of £21 or thereabouts. You can store a maximum of 25,000 songs there and they all become available on your other kit, iPhone, iPad and iPod. I know it works as I have over 23000 songs uploaded of which only a few we're bought through iTunes.
it works by comparing your music to the whole iTunes music dadata base so you access the same tunes that you could get from iTunes. If you have obscure stuff, it uploads your own music to the cloud as a copy.
I Find it incredible that on my iPhone with its 16gb memory I can view almost 200 gb of music (ie my 23000 songs) and play any of them. Anything I add to iTunes becomes available via the cloud fairly quickly from a few minutes or a little longer if adding a lot.
The first time you use it it will take quite a while to match your music if you have a lot, but after that it is all automatic. Read the stuff on the apple site. Your PC needs to be at least running Vista. I recommend it and at less than 50p a week it's good value.

So it sounds to me if this is purely for learning and internal use without commercial and production purpose, you don't have to pay. But Oracle and it's sales rep will have the final words. Yes you can forward requests from your own apache to the iAS. This can be done using mod_proxy. Some hints about how to do this are availlable on this forum.
mod_oc4j is not a standard apache module, and therefore is not availlable when you download apache. There is no apparent reason to use mod_oc4j on a "regular" webserver (unless you want to build your own iAS). Also there might be some licenseing issues with using mod_oc4j module on a standard apache.
You can encrypt data that is passed from a random Apache to you iAS.

Each time when you start your computer, you need to restart Oracle as well, its only with Windows XP. The process you have to follow each time is:
Start -->Run and then type CMD to open command prompt.
In command prompt type
svrmgrl and then press
connect internal/oracle and then press
startup force and then press

When i'm executing a stored procedure with 8i driver i'm having a problem saying "Cannot Save or Rollback in distributed transaction". But when i use oracle 7.3 drivers i'm not having any problem.My question is , Can I use oracle 7.3 dirvers with oracle 8 database.

I tried disabling MTS. That doesnt look to work. Somehow 8i drivers are working in a distributed transaction mode by default. I resolved configuring 8i drivers as not to use distributed mode and works fine for me.
For other who had this same kind of errors Solution is :
Disable distribution transaction off if you are managing manual transactions from your scripts. Example: connectstring= DNS=...;"DistribTx=0.

Interconnect DB adapter Error when connecting to DB Using Oracle Wallet

Hi all,
I have installed multiple DB adapters on a unix m/c and when i am starting the DB adapter( name ex: B) i am getting the following error.
when i Hash (#)the passwd in adapter.ini without using oracle wallet my DB adapter gets connected if the same is removed i am getting the following Error.
"java.sql.SQLException: invalid arguments in call"
Oracle Wallet password have been set correctly and works fine with one of the DB adapter( name ex: A) and the same setting of A has been used in B.
Would be glad if someone could help to give solution to track oracle wallet and database connectivity.

The issue was solved.The workaround involved synchronising the security folders the one below the /interconnect and one below /adapters.

Can I use Oracle Wallet to store generic passwords?
