Can I use Oracle XE for ODM prototyping?

Hi experts,
Can I use Oracle XE (Oracle Database Express, the free light weight database) for prototyping about ODM?
I am worrying about the ODM components are not installed with Oracle XE so I won't be able to use the data mining features.

ODM is an option to the Oracle Database Enterprise Edition (EE). It requires the EE version.

Each time when you start your computer, you need to restart Oracle as well, its only with Windows XP. The process you have to follow each time is:
Start -->Run and then type CMD to open command prompt.
In command prompt type
svrmgrl and then press
connect internal/oracle and then press
startup force and then press

If you are using OLite, you should use the OLite .NET provider:

According to License Terms on OTN, you can has limited license to use the programs only for the purpose of developing, testing, prototyping and demonstrating your application, and not for any other purpose. So it sounds to me if this is purely for learning and internal use without commercial and production purpose, you don't have to pay. But Oracle and it's sales rep will have the final words. Better double check to confirm.

I know it's possible, because i already found some blogs about changing the chart colors and turning off the animated graphs.

Digging a bit in the Oracle 8i docs, I've found why the java
performance is so low in the database VM. Because there is no
support for user native code from Java yet, and it will be
implmented in a subsequent release. So every program you write
is interpreted only.
So the only advantage you can get from Oracle 8i for the
moment is using their nativized libraries (which are DLL's for
the JDK API)

Can i use oracle 7.3 drivers against oracle 8 database.

When i'm executing a stored procedure with 8i driver i'm having a problem saying "Cannot Save or Rollback in distributed transaction". But when i use oracle 7.3 drivers i'm not having any problem.My question is , Can I use oracle 7.3 dirvers with oracle 8 database.

I tried disabling MTS. That doesnt look to work. Somehow 8i drivers are working in a distributed transaction mode by default. I resolved configuring 8i drivers as not to use distributed mode and works fine for me.
For other who had this same kind of errors Solution is :
Disable distribution transaction off if you are managing manual transactions from your scripts. Example: connectstring= DNS=...;"DistribTx=0.

Hi Sameer,
it's not possible to use apex on mysql, as stated above me by several persons.
If you havent got any oracle database in your organization, apex would be an expensive choise unless you use the free Oracle XE (express edition), which has APEX embedded.
There are some limitations to XE but with a bit of smart thinking it wouldnt be much of a problem.

In short:
- XE will use 1 CPU even if you have two or more in your system
- There is a 4 GB data limit
- RAM memory usage is limited to 1 GB
- 1 installation per computer
You can use XE as a reporting database. This will relieve your mysql database from heavy reporting processes, too.
The XE can be used as a mini data warehouse. So you have to transfer and transform the relevant data from mysql to your XE instance.
After that you can start building report screens etc in the embedded Apex .
