Can i use OS X Server as as an FTP?

I have multiple WebCam's on a home security system. I would like to record feed's based on set alerts FTP seems to be the fastest available. Can i use OS X Server to setup a FTP?

Of course you can!
FTP is included in Server.app. Easy to setup but thin on features. Perfect for your very specific need.

When I use Connect Object Explorer, the "Connect to Server" dialog box which pops up has only 4 selections in the Server Type Drop Down List. They are Database Engine, Analysis Services, Reporting Services & Integration Services. I have read
somewhere that there should be a compact database option. but I do not see it.
What I would like to do is use free form SQL Queries against the tables in "SQL Server Compact 4.0 Local Database" .
Once I have validated these queries, then I will use them in my Visual Studio 2012 C#, ASP.NET application. I created the Local Database using Visual Studio 2012 for use by my application.

With SSMS 2005 we have had the Option to work with SQL CE database files, but not with higher Version of SSMS.

Yes you can forward requests from your own apache to the iAS. This can be done using mod_proxy. Some hints about how to do this are availlable on this forum.
mod_oc4j is not a standard apache module, and therefore is not availlable when you download apache. There is no apparent reason to use mod_oc4j on a "regular" webserver (unless you want to build your own iAS). Also there might be some licenseing issues with using mod_oc4j module on a standard apache.
You can encrypt data that is passed from a random Apache to you iAS.

Can I use Oracle Report Server to print from APEX? How?

Hello, we have Oracle Application server, Oracle Report server and now we just installed APEX and doing a pilot project. Since we don't have BI Publisher, how can we use our Oracle Report server to print from apex report? Can it be done and if yes where can I get some detail info that I can share with our DBA?
I have in past asked questions about the printing issues but I have been refered to http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/configure_printing.html#01 section 5 which talks about another installation.

You can use FOP, but the formatting of the xsl (Xml Style Sheets) takes a little work. If you have the Oracle Reports server up and access to the development product, why not go that route?
You want the filtering and sorting and searching, yes, but then you also want to print them out.. Then you would probably be best looking at replacing the Oracle Reports setup with BI Publisher. You can convert Most your reports over to bi publisher layouts easily.. (I have heard of some reports that do require recreating in Bi Publisher from Oracle Reports..)
Then you can have your Apex Reports and call Bi Publisher from APEX and everyone wins..
Is your Oracle Reports stuff used by non-APEX applications, that could be modified to use Bi Publisher?

I have been using Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition for my business purpose and there are at-least 30 Users who logged in into the server Via Remotely from different location. I want to upgrade my server with latest one with some extra cores and RAM for
better and smooth operations for all users. So, i have a doubt whether my CAL Licenses will works with Windows Server 2012 or i need to purchase the new one for the same?
Moreover, if i don't upgrade my Windows to any 2012 edition and stay on 2008 Standard Edition how much maximum RAM can be installed at a time? is there any limitations? if Yes, please let me know how do i upgrade my Windows 2008 Standard Edition to any other
business edition to avoid such limitations of RAM?

th eupgrade optiuon from Standard 2008 to Enterprise 2008 was only available for customers with open value contract with activ esoftware assurance then they can purchase the step up license from Standard to Enterprise.
the only way to have the Enterprise 2008 Edition is to make th edowngrad efrom 2012 Standard to 2008 Enterprise. it means that if you purchase the 2012 R2 Standard Edition, you may downgarde to Enterprise 2008/2008 R2. th ebest way to make the downgrade
to 2008 R2 Enterprise is to purchase the current Version 2012 R2 Standard in volume licensing than you can download diretly from VLSC the Enterprise Edition.
with your downgrade you can still using the 2008 CALs.

Can I use the Calendar Server on OS X Server to sync Calendar

I would like to know if I can use OS X Server to sync my calendar and addresses on my different devices (iPhone, iPad and MacBook) like in iCloud, or is this only possible in Workgroups?
Also I wondered if I can connect to my OS X Server shared folder from a differen Network when the server has a WWW Domain name?

It is possible to set up OS X Server with services for calendar and contacts for the users, and when you use the same user login on different devices, the contacts and calendars will update across them (assuming you have network connections to the server and the devices are set to automatically get changes with push notifications). The only issue I've seen with this is when you set up the services on a Mac, you will have the "On My Mac" calendar and contacts group (iCloud does not show this when you set up a device with iCloud as it really is modifying the local copies of the data and pushing changes to the server).
It is possible to connect to shared folders hosted by OS X Server if the server and network are set up correctly. To access it over the internet, you have two options:
Port forward (possibly with NAT translation) AFP or SMB ports through your firewall to your server. This would allow you (from a machine on the internet not on your local network) to access the shared folder in Finder as afp://yourserver.example.com (where yourserver.example.com is your domain name, or in the case of a home server, a dynamic DNS name that updates when your external IP address changes).
Setup VPN on the server and allow VPN services through your firewall. By creating the VPN, you would have access to your network (the one the server is on) like you were locally attached to it and not over the internet (with the exception of Bonjour services. Bonjour broadcasts don't work over VPN). The VPN (if configured properly) would add another level of encryption to the data transfers (I don't recall off the top of my mind if AFP is encrypted by default). You can also set up DHCP and DNS with a primary zone and add the name of your server (and/or other computers) to this zone and be able to use Bonjour like addresses (like myserver.local).
As to which is 'better,' I would recommend the VPN route as I am cautious opening ports on my router/firewall and would allow access to more than just the one machine. But in the end it will depend on what you feel like trying (with the help of these forums, other forums, and Google) and how paranoid you are about security. If you implement the VPN, you could access your shared folders, your contacts and calendars securely from the internet, but you would have to have the VPN enabled to get push notifications/updates.

I am not able to connect to the internet while using the SAP PI Server. I am using a local server on my PC. I was able to do so for a few days but later there is some problem that it is not getting connected.

Can you use Snow Leopard Server with Timewarner Road runner for file sharin

I have Time Warner Roadrunner service for internet. I have there fastest package. they said it has a dynamic ip address. If you are using Snow Leopard Server and I want todo File sharing upload and downloads to my Macpro do I have to have a static ip address or is there a way around this. The Static ip address accounts are expensive
Also from your experience. if I have 12 people uploading and downloading files willt his bring my browsing in safari to a crawl?

You need to first check with your provider to see if that service is even allowed (often it is not). You may have to subscribe to a commercial or small business service to set up an FTP or other file sharing server.
Actual performance depends upon what your upload capacity is, and how much of that is being used by the total users using the service. It is possible a single user downloading files from your server will consume your entire pipe. OTOH, it might support hundreds of simultaneous users, if they are each using a small amount. In reality, your link capacity will be shared by all users regardless of the number of users.

Can I use a Windows Server as my Push Notification provider?

I tried doing a search, but couldn't find an answer to this...
I would assume the answer to be yes, but just wondering if anyone has tried, or sees any reason why a windows server couldn't be used as a "Provider" to send push notifications through Apple's Push Notification Service? It seems that as long as I could install the SSL certificate on the provider, I should be able to connect...

You're going to be learning a whole lot about running a server, regardless.
You really need to sort out what you have here and where you want to be, and how to upgrade or replace yor migrate your environment, and before you add the substantial increase in complexity of serving Windows from Mac. If you can't get off of Office circa 2003 or similarly old software, what are you going to do when you find, say, an incompatibility, or a need to migrate mail clients? Who are you going to call for help?
I'd guess that Small Business Server (SBS) is likely your best target here.
AFAIK, Exchange Server (which I'm guessing is what you're using) supports larger mailboxes in newer releases.
Look at the sustaining costs for what you're considering purchasing, too. How much it'll cost to configure, deploy and maintain the box and the network. Up-front costs are an obvious consideration, but maintaining many boxes and many versions itself introduces costs.
The arrival of Lion Server next month does not change my opinion. (And I'm not usually suggesting Windows and Windows Server boxes, either.) (And with the arrival of Lion and Lion Server, I'll follow my usual approach and not look to upgrade to the first release of that (or any other) new platform, if there are business-critical functions and services involved. You need time to debug and test the deployment.)

Can I use OS X Server 4.0 Profile Manager to distribute iOS apps with iOS Developer Enterprise Program (iDEP)?

We are developing an iOS and complementary Mac OS X app for in house use by about 1500 users. I need to manage the devices and distribute the in-house app to these users.
We have an iOS Developer Enterprise Program (iDEP) licence.
Can I combine OSX Server and iDEP to distribute and manage the app? Or do I nee dot move to something like Air Watch?

You should not have to do anything the user/group import should be automatic and you should not have to manually create any accounts and it does onging syncs automatically but I do not know how often.
Once you are install and connect to profile manager all the accounts should show up just by clinking on users or the groups icons and they will work with that. You should not need to mess with them in the actual server application Although I would assume the other services all ink into the OD directory I don't know exactly how services like email, file sharing or VPN work as we have other more full featured better scaling services for that like MS Exchange for email/calendar and Cisco VPN.
We are only using OD, Profile Manager and Software Update.
Just a note I am using Server 3.2 on OS 10.9.5 if you are using Server 4.X your mileage will probably vary slightly as I am not sure what the areas of major change are.

Can I use OS X Server as media server?

I can't find info on apple.com so I desided to write in here.
What I want is to write videochat app for iPad - something like skype but for local corporate network. But I can't find info on how to configure OS X Server to work as a media streaming server to recive/send video stream.
How app will work = iPad sends video stream from camera on OS X Server, OS X Server sends video stream to other videochat iPad users. It will be easier to use Windows Media Services than configure OS X Server?

My existing mail server uses a program called Mdaemon (similar to MS Exchange) but I need to change the PC and want to move to a Mac Mini with server software
I have multiple domains and users but all mail is forwarded to one external mail box then Mdaemon distributes the mail to the correct person.
Can the mail software do this?
