I guess the term "a lot" is subjective, and while I've found a number of threads (and posts on other sites) dealing with 3GS 5.1.1 problems (some having identical white screens of death), I assume there would be a lot more reports if it was a big problem on a percentage basis. I don't track updates, and I only come to these boards when I have a problem, so I wouldn't know if every update brings some iPhones to their knees.
The Apple Store wasn't able to figure anything out to unbrick my phone, but they certainly didn't question my assertion that my phone worked perfectly until the 5.1.1 update. Their only thought was there was something wrong with some componenet in my 3GS, and the problem didn't cause any problem with previous iOS versions, but 5.1.1 did bring out the problem. Sad that Apple won't allow me a way to revert to the previous OS, to see if my brick will go back to the perfectly working device that my son used for games and stuff. And as a family that owns 3 iPhones and 2 iPads, this may be the first time I'm driven to trying things that aren't supported by Apple, thus can't be discussed on Apple's boards.

Once the keyboard is connected, it should work with any app that uses the standard keyboard interface, so it will work with iWork.

three years ago I've been to Japan for an exchange study program and at that time I had a HTC but as far as I remember, since Japanese people didn't have Sim-Cards, I had to buy a brand-new Softbank's mobile phone.
So since I got another scholarship for Kyoto, I was wondering if something has been changing in these last three year and if I could eventually use my Italian iPhone 3Gs by inserting a Softbank o AU or Docomo's Sim-Card.

You can only use your 3Gs in another country if it is NOT locked to an Italian carrier Or
you can get it unlocked if it is so restricted
I assume someone with knowledge of the Japanese market can comment on the availability of a suitable sim but your iPhone must be unlocked before you can use another carrier's sim

I have completely disabled my iphone 3gs. It says "Iphone is diabled connect to itunes", but when I connect it to itunes, itunes says "could not connect because it is locked with a passcode you must enter your passcode on the iphone before it can be used.

The iPhone 3GS takes a standard full-size SIM. It's possible that an adapter will work, but it will probably be more reliable if you get a full-size SIM from yur cell carrier.
EDIT: I concur with Tim. The 3GS is a very old model now, as smartphones go, so I would suggest a newer model, saving up if you have to. I myself wouldn't buy anything older than an iPhone 4S at this point.

FaceTime is not on the iPhone 3GS because it does not have a front-facing camera. Think about it - if you wanted to use the camera, you'd have to turn the phone around - but then you wouldn't be able to see the other person.

With the 3GS Apple dropped support for charging over the firwire pin on the dock connector. Some older chargers will only supply power over the firewire pin, and thus will not work. There are adapters that will fix this, here's one example:

You need to update your 4 to newer software to restore from icloud back up, until then you will get incompatible message. So steps are - set up your iphone 4 as new. Update. Erase. Restore from cloud backup. If you update does not take long you should be all set within an hour.

Sounds like you purchased a phone that was hacked to run on a network other than the one it was originally locked to.
Where, exactly did you get this phone? If it's already in a state where it says it must be restored, you don't have a choice. If the phone was hacked, it will be re-locked to the network it was originally locked to. ONLY the carrier it is locked to can legitimately authorize unlocking the phone.
