Can I use Samsung DIMM 8GB DDR3-1333 on my Macbook Unibody?
Hi everyone,
Can somebody please help me give me the answer to these questions? I don't have the technical understanding to figure it out myself.
I have a MacBook Unibody (soon to be with Mountain Lion) with the following specification and memory.
1. I want to upgrade my RAM to Western Digital Scorpio Black 320GB, SATA II (WD3200BEKT)
2. I want to upgrade my RAM to Samsung RAM (DIMM 8GB DDR3-1333)
So my question is whether or not my Mac would support this Harddrive & RAM. They're both cheap and have good ratings, some of review mention Macs, but I wanted to be sure.
Plus, if they are any thorough support materials regarding manual migration, references to that would be much appreciated as well!
Best,
Gabriel
The ram is not the correct spec. Your MacBook requires
RAM Type: PC3-8500 DDR3 Min. RAM Speed: 1066 MHz
Using incorrect or incompatible ram is only asking for problems.
The hard drive should work fine, but let me ask this....why not really speed things up and move to a SSD? Prices are down and it's a big upgrade over hard drives.

Can i use Samsung 2GB PC-8500 DDR3 1066MHz SO-DIMM 204 Pin 2.0GB Memory Upgrade Modules M471B5673FH0-CF8 with my mac bool mid 2010?
you are out of luck, I think.
Not using the exact spec for memory wil cause trouble.
When you have the original in (1066MHz) and add another with higher speed (1333) there is a (small) chance that the higher speed one is "clocked down" and will work, but expect kernel panics often. Most of the time it will not work.
If there is no standard spec ram in at all, the mac will not start.
Luckily ram is cheap nowadays. Send it back.
The best way to buy is researching the Manufacturers' site and use the configurator, then go shopping, if you want.
Use only respected brands: Crucial, OWC, personally have not so good experience with some other brands. And remember "pennywise is poundfoulish".
I think Amazon will take it back and refund. Very unlikely that the memory is harmed. Ask them to take it back. -

Can i use my time capsule to wirelessly backup my macbook and its external hard drive, which up until now was it's time machine and storage? How?
The external drive must be connected to the Mac using either USB or FireWire
You must remove the external hard drive from the list of items that are "excluded" from backups in Time Machine Preferences.
Here's how:
Open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock)
Open Time Machine
Click Options
Look for the name of the hard drive in the list of "excluded" items and click on it to highlight it
Click the -- (minus) button at the bottom of the list to remove the hard drive from the list of "excluded" items....so it will now be backed up
Strongly recommend that you do the first backup using Ethenret from your computer to the Time Capsule since the entire contents of the external drive will be copied on the first pass. Ethernet will be 3-5 faster than wireless.
Once you have the first backup done, you can use wireless for subsequent backups since they will nornally be much smaller....unless you add large files to the external drive. -
I want to install a new hard drive on my 2008 MacBook but do not have the instillation discs that came with my computer. Can I use instillation discs from a 2009 or 2010 MacBook? The hard drive I am planning to install is a WD Scorpio Black 500GB SATA 2.5'' internal hard drive.
Sometimes they do work - i've done it before. I have a late 2008 Macbook Uni and used the install dvd of my 2009 Macbook White and it worked.
Why not just clone your hard drive? It'll save you a lot of time doing a clone rather than doing a clean install.
Unless you're having issues with your old set up or your old hard drive is dead.
You can download Carbon Copy Cloner - install your new hard drive in a external usb enclosure (around $10) and clone fromt here then test it before you install it in your Macbook.
Once you've done the swap, you can install your old hard drive in the USB enclosure and use it as a backup drive.
Good luck -
How can I use a firewire hard drive on a new Macbook with one USB-C only?
How can I use a firewire hard drive on a new MacBook with only one USB-C?
kaz-k is correct about FireWire not being supported by any possible connector or adaptor to USB-C and never will. However, there is no such thing as a FireWire Hard Drive. There are only SATA (or if it is a really old one, ATA,) drives in a FireWire enclosure. If you can remove the drive from the case/enclosure - bust it open somehow if it is a glued-up unit - then the drive can be placed into a regular USB3 enclosure. Then it can connect to the new MacBook via any one of the adaptors Apple sells.

Can i use a 85 watt charger with a new macbook air
Can i use a 85 watt charger with a new macbook air that comes with a 45 watt charger. One says its 14.8 volts and the other is 20 volts.
To be clear, the wattage of the adapter is not the power delivered to the Mac, but rather the power the adapter is capable of delivering.
Think of it as the difference between a 200 HP and a 400 HP engine; both can drive at a certain speed with no issues, the difference is what happens if you floor the gas pedal.
The same is true between the higher wattage power adapter that comes with the iPad and the one that comes with iPhones; you can use the higher wattage adapter to charge and iPhone with no issue, but if you try and use the iPhone adapter to charge the iPad it may work, but it will take much, much longer. -
HT5639 Can I use Boot Camp to install Linux on my MacBook Pro?
Can I use Boot Camp to install Linux on my MacBook Pro?
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Boot Camp wasn't designed to install Linux. Apart from that, the Boot Camp version included in OS X Mountain Lion will ask you to insert a Windows 7 or Windows 8 DVD in order to run Boot Camp, as far as I know.
Apple doesn't support Linux on Macs, but it works properly on Macs. There are a lot of how-to's in the Internet about the steps to install Linux and the different possibilities you have. Also, what distribution do you want to install on the computer? You should also consider the option to install Linux on a virtual machine -
Can I use my Imac as a monitor for my Macbook Air?
Can I use my iMac as a monitor for my Macbook Air?
Without any knowledge of the year machines you have it's impossible to answer that question. iMacs adn MBA's have been around for many years now so we have no idea of the exact specs your machine have. Remember when posting you need to be complete and paint a picture for us as we aren't there to look for ourselves. Your question should be posted something like:
" I have a 2011 27" iMac and a 2009 MacBook Air, can I use the iMac as an external display for my MacBook Air?"
BTW what you are referring to is called Target Display Mode. Apple does support that on some 2009-2011 iMacs. You can find additional information at:

Can I use my old 8GB 1067MHZ DDR3 in Macbook with Mac Mini late 2012 1600 MHZ DDR3
I am thinking about using my 8GB 1067 DDR3 from my old Macbook into my new Mac Mini late 2012 that uses 4GB 1600MHZ DDR3
Can I do it?
ThanksYour Late 2012 Mac mini requires a different type of RAM respecting to the RAM that your MacBook Pro uses, so you cannot use it with your Mac mini. If you try to use it, you will get kernel panics or your Mac may not start up.
You can buy more RAM at OWC or Crucial. Always get RAM that meets your Mac specifications -

How can I use samsung printer scx-4016 with macbook
can't load mac software on intel macbook.
can't find mac driver or software on samsung site.
has anyone else been able to use the multifunction printer with their intel macbook? You can try using one of the of the Gimp-Print
drivers included with Mac OS X if you cannot locate
printer software for your specific printer model. If
your printer supports PostScript Level 2 or
PostScript Level 3, select Generic PostScript Printer
as the print model. If you are experiencing an issue
using the driver designed for your printer model, you
may be able to workaround the issue by adding the
printer via a Gimp-Print driver or the Generic
PostScript Printer Description file.
I don't understand any of what you have written about Gimp-print drivers.
This printer does not support postScript. Could you please give me more detailed instructions about what I should do.
Sorry it has taken me this long to get back to this problem, but regular life got in the way to handling this until now. I have to copy everything I want to print to my windows machine from my macbook. I am very frustrated with it.
Samsung is no help and only lists win or linux drivers.
