Can I use several domain names through mobile me ??

Hi, I have just purchased ilife 09 and would now like to add a couple of additional websites that I have purchased alongside my main one www.empressrockband.co.uk
I am fairly sure I should be able to do this but I just can't seem to be able to find anything to show me what to do. Everything I look at seems to show how to add the first domain name but not subsequent ones.
Can anyone please assist ??
Many thanks, Tony

No, this is not what they are saying.
What they are telling you to do is use the CNAME forwarding method for all of your domains, which will not work.
What you need to do is is log in as they have told you to do and then alter the A settings to create a new CNAME and then forward the www and @ (which they have said) - this is your domain name, which is the alias and forward it to web.me.com - this is forwarded to the Apple server which will point specifically to your site as it is published to MobileMe.
I take it that you only have one MobileMe account? If you do, then you can only re-direct one domain name using the CNAME/personal domain name option ONCE for every MobileMe account. If you have more than one domain name that you want to re-direct to a MobileMe published site, then you need to use either masked or unmasked web forwarding for the others.
So ensure that the site that you want linked to your first domain name is published first and then link it using the CNAME method, as your domain registrar has explained to you - you also need to ensure that this same domain name is entered into your MobileMe account too and this will then forward to your first site.
For your other sites however, you cannot use CNAME, but you need to go to web forwarding and forward your other two domain names or however many others you have to web.me.com/username/sitename and this is how you forward your domain name specifically to your site, by entering the forward as web.me.com/username/sitename. With the CNAME it is only ever web.me.com because your domain name will then link to your first published site - the web forwarding is specific to the site if you have already used the CNAME.
If you do not know where to find the ordinary web forwarding section of your domain registrar, e-mail them and ask them or ask them to do it for you by telling them which domain names you want linked to which sites and asking them to enable the masking or not and then get them to forward to web.me.com/username/sitename.
Your only other option, if you want to use CNAME forwarding for all of your domain names is to upgrade your one MobileMe account to a Family Pack, where you get on main account and 4 sub-accounts, all of which you can use CNAME forwarding for.
Remember - you can only use CNAME forwarding ONCE for every MobileMe account - for other domains you then need to use either masked or unmasked web forwarding.

  • Can I use a domain name from client

My client owns severable domain names, can I use one of them in BC? If so, how do I do it?
    Thanks

    Yes, you most certainly can.
In the site admin under site settings once you go live there is a tool for site domains. Just follow the prompts.
Then you will have to go into where the domain name is registered and change the DNS settings to be pointed to Business Catalyst.

  • Can you host multiple domain names on mobile me with iWeb '09?

    Hi
Can anyone help, before I upgrade to iLife '09, I have a personal web domain name which I host on my mobileme account. My girlfriend now wants a website and I have bought her a domain name and want to use iWeb to design it but I can't seem to host multiple domains on iWeb '08, can you with iLife '09? Or will she have to buy her own mobile me account? Any help will be great!!!
    Thanks

MobileMe -MME -is Apple's hosting service.
Domain Name System - DNS translates an understandable address like www.mywebsite.com into the IP address which is a number like 40:75:92:301.
Cname is a name of record in a database that records what domain name goes to what IP address.
IP address is just a unique number that identifies any device connected to the internet.
An FTP client is an application the uploads your files to a server using File Transfer Protocol.
I mainly use Web Site Maestro because it doesn't just upload the files but optimizes them first to remove all the unnecessary code that iWeb creates to allow your website to download at least 30% faster.
I also use Yummy FTP for sorting out and keeping track of my files on the server and uploading folders of images and music files along with their assets for flash presentations.
I have used Host Excellence for years because of the way they allow you to name your own root folder on the server and also their great tech support.
FTP and servers can be a bit confusing but, if you have a good hosting company, you can get by on very little knowledge and understanding. I do!
I couldn't agree more with you about the acronyms and jargon. The more people use them usually means the less they know. One of the most misused words is "domain". I tried to sort that one out here...

    Hi,
    I don't know if it's possible with Windows NT4.
However, if you are using Windows 2000, then you can use JNDI for accessing the Active Directory.

  • How can i edit the domain name ?

    Hello,
I tried to register my first website through business catalyst. The domain name i took was www.wildixel.com . But, when i am trying to open the website it open other website with the same name. I guess it was already taken. Now i want to edit the domain name. Please let me know how can i.
    Thanks

    Hi there,
Could you please explain more what you are trying to do and have done?
You can not purchase a domain name through Business Catalyst so you would have not obtained a domain you listed there. You have to by it from a domain registra.
If you have just entered a domain into the domain manager of your website but have not purchased the domain, this will not work. You have to obtain the domain first.
If you have got your domain, have you gone into the domain settings of BC and added the domain in? Have you gone to the domain registra and changed either the A-record or the NS records to point to your BC site?

Can I use a domain for one site and mobile me for a different site?
I have two sites, I would like to have up and I would like to do one through a domain and one through mobileme is this possible?

Yes you can. You can use the CNAME method of forwarding for the first site (the top site in iWeb) and use the MMe URL for your account for the other site: http://web.me.com/YourAccount_Name/SiteName/

MobileMe ends here at the end of the month so you will need to look into hosting your website/websites with another webhosting service.
I personally use IX Webhosting for a couple of reasons:
Fast reliable personal tech support by phone, instant chat, & email
They allow unlimited domains "www.yoursite.com", unlimited email accounts, unlimited bandwidth
And, price they are very reasonable plans start @ $3.95 USD a month

  • Site made with iWeb using personal domain name

I have created a web site on iWeb 08 and have a personal domain name through Network Solutions.
The website was published to Mobile Me after "set up personal domain" was done. The C Name record was changed at Network Solutions to web.me.com. When I write the domain name in the browser a box comes down asking "idisk.mac.com" wants user name and password.
    1. Why is it asking for this?
    2. every ID and Password I put in, it tells me is incorrect? Ahhhhhhhh What does it want from me?
Please help - I've waisted so much time on this (since last week).
The website name is www.theplazarealty.com is you want to take a look.
    Thank you

This relates to a problem I can't find in the iWeb manual. Where is my iWeb site actually published to, so I can accurately update it using FTP software, and which method to use for publishing it to domain names?
I have created two websites for two different purposes each with a personal domain (one hosted, the other with webforwarding), and through ignorance have done all three options Publish to MobileMe / Publish All to MobileMe / and Publish to a folder (my home computer user Sites folder). As a result I have three Sites folders each containing both 'mysites'- Computer/user/Sites/sitename, or iDisk/user/Sites/sitename, or iDisk/user/Web/Sites/sitename - all different sizes, worryingly, leaving me unclear which is doing what. What is the diff between Publish All to MMe and Publish to MMe - they both seem to entail both sites totally republishing even if only one page has changed. Each time, of course, it takes several minutes or more to clear through the publishing process, and then some 20-30mins more to synchronise with FTP before I find out whether I've only used the duff old version after all. What is the difference between the three Sites destination folders? Can the difference be used productively? Should I, eg, ensure my sites exist both on my computer and iDisk as backup?
Further confusing factor is that when I log into MMe and look at my folders icon on my iDisk, which are Sites and Web/Sites, the contents of the two 'mysites' folders listed under both areas are different from the SITES/iWeb display listed below them, which seems to be a truncated sort of merger of the 'mysites' contents without their separation into two. Is that iWeb item under SITES on the folders page listing a fourth set of the contents,or what?
Now to synchronising/updating: which Sites folder to use to synchronise the websites with. Can I get updating in sync with republishing? My domain host UKcentric does not provide the CNAME options you have all talked about and they are unobtainable on my hosted domain page. I sent him the web.me.com message as described in the iWeb Personal Domain instrux, but he has persistently instructed me to use FTP software to upload and update the sites. He is not Mac-friendly, he admits. I have now used three programs, ClassicFTP, FileZilla and Cyberduck, all of which seem to be rather different and none of them has told me the sync has completed (the connection drops out, etc - it does take a long time, say 30-40mins to do, and I never know when I "resume" whether it'll pick up where it was or go back to zero start). If I am stuck with this laborious method of regular manual updating, I want to know I am using the correct Sites folder to synchronise the website with. None of this is clarified in the iWeb manual. Can anyone help?

  • Design a site, use my domain name, and host it via .mac

It sounds simple, and I thought a search through these forums would yield some easy answers, but no luck, so here goes:
I'm an advanced Photoshop and Final Cut Studio user, running an audio/video/image restoration and transfer business, but I'm a total beginner in the iWeb/.Mac area.
About three years ago, I decided it was time for a web site, so I went to a local company; they designed and still host my site, for which I pay them $30.00 per month; it's a simple site with no ecommerce, and six or seven pages. There is a contact form through which potential customers can email me.
I also have a domain name, for which I pay $15.00 per year to the same company.
My site is OK, but it's the same as it was three years ago; any small changes I have asked the company to make (mostly just text additions/changes) they have done at the rate of $75.00 per hour.
What I want to do is cancel my account with them, design a totally new site using iWeb, start a .mac account, and have the site hosted using my domain name, so that the average customer who sees my newspaper ad can navigate to my new site exactly as they can with the current one. (I only have one email account, through my ISP, which I don't want to change.)
I've got lots of questions, but mostly, what else do I have to do to make this switch besides cancelling my account with my current company? (After an overlap period, of course) What happens with my domain name--who will I pay to keep it? And finally, what simple things am I not thinking of?
Many thanks in advance to anyone with enough patience to read through this, and still find time to provide some assistance.

You can design your site in iWeb and upload it to either .Mac or a commercial server.
You would then provide the domain name registrar with your server ID number or, in the case of .Mac, your .Mac URL and instruct them to point your domain name in that direction.
.Mac is neither intended for, nor the best option, for a business site.
For example the company I host with - Host Excellence - allows you a free domain name registration and up to 6 sites with unlimited web mail and more server space than you are likely to need for about the cost of a .Mac account.
Commercial servers are a lot more reliable than .Mac, have wider bandwidth and usually have good tech support.
You only have to look at the number of problems in this forum concerning .Mac to see that tech support is not readily available from Apple.
I'm not putting down .Mac. I use it myself for various purposes and it is good for its intended use of one clicking publishing of personal websites.

  • Using Multiple Domain Names to Access Our Portal

We operate one domain corp.company.com but all internal intranet web servers get  assigned the address inside.ZZZ. The inside.ZZZ is on our IE exclusion list but company.com is not. Adding company.com seems to be a miserable task so we are looking at adding an alias so our users can access the server at the new inside.ZZZ url. We have DNS pointing the URL to the right server and that seems to be working properly.
Something within the application is redirecting the page to gnwhepdev.corp. company .com (our server’s domain address) after the initial login.  Since *.corp. company .com is not in the exclusion list, it is considered an outside address and rerouted.  We are trying to find some way to pass the alias within the  application itself so that we don’t need *.corp. company .com in the exclusion list and we can point users to the inside.ZZZ url.
Our team researched this issue and found documentation that supported the use of multiple domain names to access a Enterprise Portal.  The documentation that we found is below:
    How To…Configure the J2EE Engine Deployment Descriptor (Version 1.00 – July 2004)
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/d0eb8120-b66c-2910-5795-894f384fc054
Particularly on page 13-15 in the documentation it talks about enabling the portal via multiple domain names (Section 3.7:  Using Multiple Domain Names to Access the Portal).  Also, the documentation says the following:
You must have sever proxy servers, each with a different domain name.  You then activate the filter mechanism and configure it to work with several proxy servers
We have several questions about the possiblities of being able to set this up and whether it would require another server where Web Dispatcher would need to be installed for this configuration to work properly.  Can someone please provide some insight into what needs to be configured and answer the question about the Web Dispatcher?  Also, if Web Dispatcher is required, what steps need to be done to configure?  If Web Dispatcher is not needed, what will we need to do apart from that to set this up for our Enterprise Portal system?

It is but you have to use masking......

  • Error message when publishing to MobilMe using GoDaddy domain name

    Hi all,
I am trying to publish my site from iWeb '09 to MobilMe. I am using a domain name purchased through GoDaddy. When I publish the entire site in iWeb, it seems to publish fine, but when I click to "visit site", I get a page with an error message, "Looking for something on MobileMe?
The account you requested doesn't exist or is currently inactive. Please make sure the URL is spelled and capitalized correctly, and try again.
MobileMe Login | MobileMe Support | Learn more…
I have checked my login info, etc. I have no idea why this isn't working. Any thoughts???
    Thanks so much - Chris

That Vist button has been a problem for others also. Why, I don't know. Try using the File ➙ Visit Published Site menu option. That has worked for me when the Visit button wouldn't.
If that menu option works you can try the following to see if you can get the Visit button to work:
    1 - close iWeb.
2 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
3 - go to your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete the contents.
    4 - reboot.
5 - launch iWeb and try again.

  • Using a domain name with the mac site

If I use a domain name on Site #2, does that mean that Site #1 will automatically have the same domain name?
I already have a Site #1 up and running. Now I purchased a new domain name that I would like to use only for site# 2. I was worried about going in with any edits to Site #1 just in case it would go to the new domain name instead of where it is right now.
    Any light on that subject?

If you have 2 websites in the same domain folder the uppermost site or the site that you most recently published will be linked to your domain name. If you don't want it to be then you need to re-publish with the site that you want to be linked to your domain name is uppermost. You can move the sites around by dropping and dragging.
The easiest thing to do is to separate the sites so that you have site 1 in 1 folder and site 2 in another. Following this, the site that you publish first will be linked to your domain name. If it is not this site that you want then just publish the other site.
How do you have the first site set up? Is it using CNAME or web forwarding? Have you entered your personal domain name into your .Mac account?
If you have one .Mac account and two websites and two personal domain names, then you can use CNAME for one site and web forwarding with or without masking for the other site. You can only enter one domain name into one .Mac account.

  • Can I use the iPhone 6 t-mobile version with straight talk?

Can I use the iPhone 6 t-mobile version with straight talk?

    All,
I have read and understand most of the post (s) on this: Apple Support Community:
It looks like the long way around my elbow approach: (piecing together an iPhone 6+ with a Straight Talk AT&T /T Mobile; Compatible Nano SIM Card) may yet work, just a bit gun shy on the $949.00 cost for the iPhone 6+ from Apple.
I live in Hawaii on the island of Oahu (north shore), and have  an iPhone 4 8gb cdma iPhone which is on Verizon's network rebranded by TFW / Straight Talk for several years. It works fine but I need an iPhone with more storage.
I have had a talk / chat with both sides Apple & Straight Talk, neither have real answers to support using the iPhone 6+ with Straight Talk as a carrier.
On the Apple site: " http://www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/ ". It is clear that Straight Talk has certified their LTE network with iPhone 6/6+ to meet basic standards.
I / we need all of the successful trail braisers on this community to post what works & what does not work.
What I plan / have to purchase / buy:
    Direct from Apple:
    1. Contract-free iPhone 6 Plus 128GB Space Gray (GSM) T-Mobile. (pending research to ensure it will work). Apple confirms, without the T Mobile nano sim that this iPhone is unlocked.
    Direct from Straight Talk:
    2. AT&T /T Mobile; Compatible Nano SIM Card. (GSM; on its way)
Would have purchased a Verizon Nano SIM Card from Straight Talk but they do not seem to have one.
All support, advice & information is greatly appreciated.

  • Using own domain name , duplication of web address HELP !!

    Hi all,
Although this is not a big problem it is quite annoying. I am currently building website within Iweb 09. I have managed to set up my own domain name with no problems at all. The only thing is I get a duplication of my website name on the browser here it is :
I would ideally like to just have *http://www.topviewweddings.co.uk*
Anyone have any ideas on how to do this ??
    cheers
    T

One way would be to use standard domain name forwarding (not CNAME) and enable masking. That would put http://www.topviewweddings.co.uk in the URL window of ALL your pages. The downside to that is visitors can only bookmark your first page which may or may not be a problem. My tutorial site, http://toadstutorials.info , is set up that way.

  • Re Directing several domain names to one iweb site

Hello, what needs to happen on Apples' end so I may re direct several domain names that are parked at godaddy to the 1 web site I just set up with iweb? Thanks
    GMorton

Since there are three ways to use a personal domain, you should first decide what you want displayed in the browser address bar when your site is viewed. See THIS page under +"Chapter 1: What is a personal domain? What does it do?"+.
...When you've decided what you want to appear in the browser address bar, read the rest of that page and if you still have questions, post back here.
