Can I use something other than HDMI for the apple TV?

My TV and AVR are in different locations. For this I ran the connection with cat5 and hooked it all up with component video. The AVR won't down convert the hdmi to component out so therefore I can not plug hdmi into it. Does the apple tv connect video only through hdmi? If so could I hook up a unit to the tv itself and one to the receiver independently for sound?
I have a pioneer sc-25 and a samsung plasma (b650 maybe?)

That won't work. The only way you can get sound to the AVR without using the HDMI or optical cable is to use it as a remote speaker from iTunes. Remote speaker doesn't push video. You would have a synchronization problem between your tv and your remote speakers driven by iTunes.

Although Itunes is sort of the defacto standard for the iPod you can use a bunch of different programs that will interface with it...Try "Musicmatch" although you can't have "Musicmatch" on the same computer as Itunes as there is a compatibility problem so you have to uninstall Itunes to use Musicmatch but I think Musicmatch is much easier to use than Itunes.

Email notification - can I use something other than Mail?

I've started using GyazMail instead of Apple's Mail application. However, whenever I get an email reminder I've set up for myself in iCal, Mail opens instead of GyazMail. I've set GyazMail as the default email application using the Preferences menu in Mail, but for whatever reason it seems that the reminders keep passing through to Mail instead of GyazMail.
Is there a way to change this?

I'm pretty sure you cannot get apple mail to interact with your other mail program - Afterall, Apple wants you to use their program - It's only been recent for example that ical can integrate other date info from such programs such as Entourage. Apple has been understandably slow to permit this kind of cross thru.
You can use any mail program you want of course. I use Entourage and also Gmail - Both receive my mail from different mail domains and tell me when new mail arrives. I don't use the apple mail program at all.

It's really not recommended. The iPhone's 5w charger does not output enough current to properly charge the battery. It -may- charge but if it did, it would charge the iPad very slowly.
This would be like trying to fill a bucket of water (iPad) with a squirt gun (5w charger)
Also under iOS 7, the charging requirements are much stricter than iOS 6. You'll likey get an error message if you try.

Hi, we're installing The Oracle Clusterware and on the Cluster Configuration screen of the universal Installer (the one were you specify the clustername and clusternodes) we get the following error message in a dialog box when the next button is clicked:
"You must enter unique values for the public node name, the private node name and the virtual hostname for all nodes in the cluster. The name, node1, that you entered is being used by more than once for the same node."
Has anyone experienced this error message before and know what the cause is?
Could it be a problem with the /etc/hosts file?

Make sure you allocate separate IP addresses on your network for the VIP addresses on each RAC node (this is not the same as the machine IP already configured on the OS).
Also, the installer may complain if your private and public IPs are configured under the same subnet.
Finally, as mentioned before, check that name resolution for all the IPs to be used. On all RAC nodes, your /etc/hosts file should be configured with:
- public name and IP addresses of ALL nodes
- private name and IP addresses of ALL nodes
- VIP name and IP addresses of ALL nodes

I have just discovered this fact in the past two weeks when I needed to update the expiration date on a virtual credit card number which I have had registered on my iTunes account for years. Apple claims this is a long time policy but considering that I was able to keep using the same VAN for several years by updating the expiration date, I believe the implementation of the policy is recent.
I spoke to two different Apple support people just now and they were apologetic and advised that I leave feedback about the issue at this site:

The support manager told me that the reason for this policy is that it is easy for hackers to steal these virtual numbers and use them--which is ridiculous, because the whole point of the VAN is that it is tied to one vendor only once it is used, and if the vendor changes even one letter in the name when they put through the charge on the credit card account, the charge is refused (at least the way my credit card issuer handles VANs). With any other form of payment, Apple and I would still have a problem with unauthorized charges on the iTunes store and I would have an even bigger problem if the hacker stole my real credit card number and used it anywhere they pleased.
I think this issue should be spread widely on tech sites and anyone who is having this problem should also be sure to leave feedback on the address above as it is supposedly taken very seriously. This is a step backward as far as I am concerned. I love Apple products and will figure out a different way to pay for my various iTunes subscriptions in the meantime but I am certainly not a happy camper right now.

No. Target Display mode is only supported when connected to a Mac running 10.6 or later.

Yes, you can use the Mail app on the iPod for your internet mail provider. Go to your provider's mail support website to find out how to set up the account on the iPod. They probably will not have instructions for an iPod but the one for the iPhone should do.

Close the pictures before you quit Preview. Cmd-opt-q will close all windows and quit. cmd-opt-w will close all windows and not quit.

What do you mean "use another web server"?
The remote panel publishing is an integral part of LV. I don't think it can just be detached.
You can write your own code which will grab the image of a front panel, send it to another VI and have that other VI capture the mouse clicks and send them back to the original VI which will then simulate them. You can also use something like VNC, PCAnywhere or XP's terminal services to remotely connect to the computer (or LabVNC to connect directly to a VI).
Why not use the built in web server?
