Can I use the find my iPhone app from my desktop to locate my iPhone?

Hey, I lost my iphone somewhere and it is running OS7. I have a desktop but I don't understand if the app, "find my iphone" is installed on it. I know it's on my iphone, just wondering how and if I can access from my desktop? Any help is appreciated.

You can use the find my phone app on your phone if you want, however there doesn't seem much point, since you will have it in your hand when you are using it and therefore know where it is.
You can enable the find my phone feature through settings >Icloud, and then track your phone at iCloud.com, should it be lost or stolen.

I have a ipod 5 gen and I lost it somewhere around the house. I've used the Find My Iphone app, but it indicates that its offline. So I'm guessing it ran out of battey or its turned off. You need to use the Find My iPhone app (in the itunes store - free). When invoking it on a device, you enter the ID password of the account the lost device is connected to. You can also use a computer's browser and log into icloud.com.

The only thing you might do is enable Lost Mode, which will allow you to set a passcode on it (as well as a message and phone number where you can be reached) so it will be locked when and if it does go online. If you didn't enable the Find My iPhone function, then you can't track the iPhone. But it sounds like you did have it turned on, if you're seeing that it's listed in the Find My iPhone app or on icloud.com. But are you sure it's the same device? If you had a previous iPhone, and the name of both iPhones was the same, it would make it difficult to know which phone was which, even if they both were listed.
In any event, an offline device is not trackable. It could be offline because A) it has no power or B) it is not connected to the internet via cellular data or wi-fi.
Until it comes back online (and it may never), then it cannot be remotely tracked.

It sounds like you need some clarification.
Find my iPhone = Find my iPod = Find my iPad = Find my Mac: a service that lets you locate any of those devices, assuming you turned it on on that device before you lost it.
iCloud: Find my iPhone (and friends) is one of the many iCloud services.
That being said, did you turn on Find my iPod on your iPod before you lost it? If so, go to icloud.com or use the Find my iPhone app on anyone's iOS device and log in.
If you did not turn on Find my iPod, then you're out of luck.

The Find My IPhone app is used to find OTHER lost devices, it does nothing to make your device "findable". To make it findable, you must turn on "Find My IPhone" in settings. And than you need location services on. This however does not guarantee that you'll always find it if lost. A thief can set it to factory settings, even remove the sim card. Then it'll be unfindable.

Does she have her own iCloud account? You can have more than one iCloud account installed on a device, and some users install a secondary iCloud account which is common to others in the family to allow "Find My iPhone" to be used from one account while keeping separate iCloud contacts, mail, etc.
But with iOS 7 although you can still have multiple iCloud accounts installed, only the "primary" iCloud account supports "Find my iPhone". So if her iCloud account is the primary, you can no longer track her from your iCloud account. Is that what happened in your case?
