Can I use the iPad as an external screen for my MacBook Pro?

Will the iPad work as an external screen? Is there any mode to make this possible?

I just received a macbook pro what is the best method for using an ipad as an extra screen for an ipad? Hopeflly, one that is no cost to me.

Sorry, but are you incapable of looking things up for yourself? Everything that you have asked is easily searchable on the internet.
    I used it over wi-fi.

  • Can I use a 2009 iMac as external display for 2007 macbook pro with DVI port only

I have a late 2009 imac with minidisplay port and  a 2007 macbook pro with DVI port. I connected a mini diaplay port to DVI cable but all I get on the imac is a blank screen when I press F2. Can I use the imac this way?

I'm not sure if it works with DVI but your late 2009 must be a 27". Try Command-F2 or Copmmand-Fn-F2

Or you can use home sharing for free, but it will only allow you to play movies and music from itunes.
Or you can use any remote desktop software

  • How can I use my iMac6.1 as a display for my MacBook Pro

I have a relatively old iMac 6.1 that I would like to use as a diplay for my MacBook Pro:  any idea of how I can do that and what connecting cables I would need?
    Thanks.
    Vittorio

Unless the MBP has Thunderbolt you can't use the iMac as an external monitor unless you get ScreenRecycler. If the MBP does have Thunderbolt you need a Thunderbolt cable. Because Thunderbolt is so new finding a cable could be quite a challenge, you may want to contact Lacie and see if they can sell you one other than that I have no idea where to find one now.

  • Can you use the same Apple ID on more than one MacBook Pro for updates and applications?

We just got a few new MacBook Pro's and when I went to install updates it said I need to make an Apple ID.  Can you use the same Apple ID and email address for that Apple ID on multiple machines, or do I need them both to be unique per machine?  I'm not sure how that works when you have multiple machines.

An Apple ID is a user name you use for everything you do with Apple. Creating an account for an Apple service, such as the iTunes Store or the App Store, creates an Apple ID. Apple ID allows you to access other Apple services.   So you can use the same Apple ID for up to 10 Macs associated with it.
To create an Apple ID you need to enter  your full name and your primary email address as your Apple ID. This will be used as the contact email address for your account.

  • How can I use the iPad as a sound source for my Mac?

I would like to be able to record sound off my iPad, onto my Mac.  (I'm using a musical app that only allows me to save short recordings, so I would like to plug my iPad into my Mac and record the music into my Mac, into Audacity or something.)
I know you can't just connect the iPad from the headphone jack, so I'm wondering what equipment I would need.
I've heard that the iPad camera connector can be used to export audio out, does anyone know how that works?
Or, are there any iPad apps available that will make exportable sound recordings of any sounds your iPad is making (from any other app?)  You know, like a screen shot, but for sound instead?
(BTW, I am not interested in streaming music from my iPad.  I already know how to do that.  I'm trying to export audio from a musical instrument app I'm using.)

Unfortunately that link doesn't provide the info I'm looking for...
Answering part of my own question: it ISN'T possible to record audio on the iPad from one app to another. Technically not possible, so there are no apps that serve this purpose.
So, I'm still looking for details on how to connect my iPad to my Mac and use it as a sound source.  I would like to record directly onto my Mac whatever sounds my iPad is outputting, by connecting the iPad to the Mac's audio input in some way.

  • I love my music, would love a iPod for this reason but the iPad air sounds really good too. Can i use the iPad air like a iPod for travel (in car).

I love music when I travel, I still have a older mp3 player that I can plug in the car stereo. I listen to various artists, a variety of music. Love to make a big play list for a long road trip.
I'm in the market for a Ipod touch or a ipad air, would I be able to do the same with the Ipod verses Ipad air.
I would use the WiFi for connection.
    Compare for me the differences.
Remember i would want to use it when im out traveling on the road for music.

The wifi-only iPad is basically large iPod touch. There are some aps that are for the iPad only.
The new devices a a Lightning cable vice the older 30-pin connector.
One of these adopters/cables may work:

However. some car systems and devices are not compatible with the newer iOS devices like the iPad Air

  • Can you use the "Restore" function in Disk Utility to clone MacBook Pro HDD and make a bootable copy?

I'm cloning my MacBook Pro's HDD to a SSD and didn't really want to install another app (SuperDuper, CCC), can I just use the Restore function in Disk Utility app to clone it and make a bootable copy on my SSD?
    Thank you for the help!

    Yes.
Clone Yosemite, Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion using Restore Option of Disk Utility
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
         1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu then press the Continue
             button.
         2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
         3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
         4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it
             to the Destination entry field.
         5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
             the Source entry field.
         6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the external backup drive. Source means the internal startup drive.

  • Can I use a PowerPC iMac as a monitor for my MacBook Pro?

I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion. I need an external monitor for it and have an old iMac laying around that I'm wondering if I could use. The iMac is the first gen white square all-in-one screen one. It's a G5, 20" 1.8 GHz from 2005. PowerPC.
Can I connect my MacBook Pro to it to use as a second monitor? Or even to mirror the display? If so, what kind of connector cables do I need to make this happen?

You need to use a product such as ScreenRecycler over a network connection. All of these products require the capability to boot the iMac.

  • How do I use my iPad as a second screen with my macbook pro?

I've got splashtop streamer for my ipad. In school my computer teacher has two monitors and she is able to drag stuff from one screen to the other. If i was streaming to my ipad, how could i use it as a second screen? and how could I do this with any old monitor?
BTW if you dont know splashtop streamer, it is a software that lets you stream content from a computer or laptop to a wireless device, such as an iPad.

Splashtop only has the ability to mirror your Mac's single screen. It does not let your iPad work as a second screen.
You need an app that is designed to turn your iPad into a real second monitor.
I use Air Display to move all of my pallets to one screen when I am working with my graphics programs on my Mac. I keep my iPad connected to my iMac to keep it charged while I am using my iPad in this manner.

  • Can I use a led tv as a monitor for a macbook pro?

I mostly stream Netflix videos on my laptop and would like to watch them on a bigger screen without sacrificing the friendly interface of my MacBoob Pro. Is is possible to us a 30-40" LED tv as a monitor?  Has anybody done this successfully?  If so, are all LED tvs alike in this regard?  I don't have a large budget and may even buy used. Any insights and advice would be most welcome.  Thanks.

Check out Apple TV.  It is a wireles interface to your TV that comes with much more capbility than just attaching it as a monitor.  It can be the best $99 investment you can make for entertainment on your TV.  It supports Netflix directly so you do not need your Mac in the loop to watch such movies.  It simply requires a standard HDMI cable, not supplied with the Apple TV unit.  Through it, with Mavericks, you can use the TV as a standard OS X monitor or for entertainment.  Also check out the Beemer software to stream videos to it from your Mac.

  • HT5628 Can I use other drivers on Windows 8.1 for my MacBook Pro Retina?

I have done a bootcamp partition on my MBPr, and I got bluescreen sometimes. I had installed Nvidia Experience, to optimise the settings in some games, and that program has also updated my GeForce GPU Driver. Could bluescreen be caused by this driver?
Is generally safe upgrade drivers on Apple Computer with Windows?

we have 3 of the most recent rMBPs (2012, early 2013 and late 2013), all 3 use the latest nvidia drivers from their support site with no issue
