I just to receive my first ever Mac. It is a Mac Book Air.
My family & In-Laws are on PC's running on Microsoft's OS - XP,VISTA ect.
Can I communicate with them the PC users on MS Messeanger through my Mac Book Air? Do I need any particular download?
[My Mac Book Air hopefully comes with Snow Lepard OS.]

No, the MacBook Air power adapter is a 45 watt. A MacBook needs at least a 60 watt power adapter although you can use a MacBook Pro 85 watt adapter. You can use a higher wattage adapter without any problems.

The hard drive in the MacBook Air is not meant to be user replaceable. Further, the OS installed on your MacBook would likely not run the MacBook Air.
A better solution might be to use the Migration Assistant to move your data to the new computer. This comes up when you are setting up the new computer for the first time.

The macbook can not seem to be able to stream any content to it, no matter what settings i change. It just seem to be missing completely the airplay option. The memory in the MacBook Air is soldered onto the logic board, so you can't upgrade RAM after buying your computer. It's important to buy your MacBook Air with the amount of memory you will use because you won't be able to install more RAM

Can I use the HDMI Out on my macbook pro retina for audio without connecting a video device?

While the MBP has TOSLINK output from the headphone jack, TOSLINK does not have the bandwidth to carry the high resolution audio from many blu-rays and DVD-Audio disks. I would like to hook my MBP to an audio-only HDMI sink so I can pipe the multichannel output to my surround speaker setup.
My concern is that the MBP will get "confused" and do one of the following things - both of which are "bad":
1) It will decide that a video device is there, and put the desktop on the nonexistent HDMI display OR
2) It will decide to send no signal at all (no video, no audio) because it sees no video device.
Any thoughts on this?

But I want any movie video to remain unperterbed on my Thunderbolt display. And if I am not watching a movie and am just listening to multichannel FLACs or something, then I'd like to run the media player normally and have the usual desktop on my MBP or Thunderbolt display.
Any thoughts?

Not from Apple, you can go to the grey market if you choose but it is most likely that the only MB that will work is the one you already have.

No. Besides being illegal the DVD that came with MacBook are hardware specific to it and will either not work at all or not work properly if you attempt to use them on the iMac.
Just go out and buy the $29 DVD for Snow Leopard. It is easier that way.
