Can I use Thunderbolt to connect my Macbook Air to my HDTV

My Macbook Air has only Thunderbolt and USB connections.  Is it possible to connect it to my Sony HDTV?

To plug the MacBook to the TV, you have to buy a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and a HDMI cable. You have to plug the Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter into the Thunderbolt port, and then connect the HDMI cable, so image will start showing in the TV automatically

The promotional material online doesn't make this clear but I like the sound of what' said on Apple TV.
I'll buy one now if it works!

In what way? You can use home-sharing to stream your iTunes library and Photos. If it's a recent MBA then you will also be able to mirror when Mountain Lion is released.

Can I use a mouse with the Macbook Air or am I limited to the touchpad?

I had been wondering for awhile if I can use a mouse with a MacBook air if I was to get one (MacBook air) some years down the road (probably within 20 years).
Now I know and I can.

If you are referring to the APPLE MacBook Pro 85W Magsafe Power Adapter A1290, then yes.  However it is bigger than you need for an MBA.  The smaller unit is a Apple 45W MagSafe Power Adapter for MacBook Air http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC747LL/A/apple-45w-magsafe-power-adapter-for- macbook-air or a 3rd-party equivalent.

  • Can you use AirPlay to connect your Macbook to a HDTV via apple TV if the Macbook screen is shut and you have a bluetooth mouse and keyboard?

I would like to display my Macbook content to myHDTV via apple TV airplay however I would like to store the computer in the entertainment center with the display closed and use the bluetooth keybard and trackpad to control the computer. Any thoughts?

    Yes, you can. XD
I thought now airplay is eqully functioning as HDMI/thunderbolt cables, wirelessly. But only one problem, with 1080P videos, it is a little bit laggy for my Macbook Air 2011, perhaps if you get a newer model, this won't happen at all.

Can anyone help me connect my Macbook Air to a SAMSUNG TV.  When I follow the basic instructions (Thunderbolt to HDMI connection) the screen on my computer goes grey and an error message appears inviting me to press any button to restart the Macbook.  When I do this nothing happens.  Only when I disconnect the computer from the TV does the Macbook allow me to login. The TV does not receive any signal from the Macbook even though I know the HDI port works fine.  Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?  Do I need to enable something on the Macbook?

    An update...
I downloaded Apple's (rather large!) list of software updates today, and I was finally able to recognize my iPod again. I did a restore using the iPod updater from 06-2006, and all seemed to work OK. (I'm afraid to try the new one again!)
Then I tried to re-load my music library from iTunes, and got stuck. It froze up after a while and wouldn't go any further.
When I disconnected my iPod from my computer, I find 2 podcasts and nothing else, though iTunes told me it had transferred 600+ songs. Those 2 podcasts do play fine, and the basic iPod software all seems to be intact.
So -- anyone get through this connection problem and have any ideas to share??

  • HT4614 Can I use Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt cable to copy from one macbook air to another?

Can I use Thunderbolt cable to copy from one Macbook Air to another Macbook Air?

Of course, but you will have to start one of the Macs into Target Disk Mode, pressing T key while the Mac is starting with the Thunderbolt cable connected, so the MacBook Air in Target Disk Mode will appear on the Finder sidebar of the other Mac as an external disk, so you can copy and transfer files from and to it

    Hi jenette,
If you are having issues using an HDTV via HDMI as an external display to your MacBook Air, you may find the following article helpful:
OS X: How to use multiple displays with your Mac in Mountain Lion and earlier
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5019
(Note: You will generally only see the arrangement option in Displays when you are configured to use the external display in Extended Desktop mode; there is no arrangement in Mirroring as both screens are showing the same image.)

Hi, Please let me know if i can connect my MacBook Air to sony led TV ex700 using a bluetooth device?

  • When I connect my Macbook air to my TV, using a Mini Display Port/HDMl adaptor and an HDMl cable, the only thing that appears on the TV screen is the Air's background screen,

When I connect my Macbook Air to my TV via the thunderbolt outlet and using a Mini Display Port/HDMl adaptor, the only image that appears on the TV screen is that of my Air background. There is obviously a signal getting through to the TV, but it is not sending images of anything else, and am unable to watch video through my Air. Any advise/suggestions?

This is called "extended desktop mode".  It's an extension of the desktop off to the right (by default) of your MBair screen.  Grab an app and drag it off the right side of your MBair screen and it will appear on the TV.
To mirror your MBair screen on the TV you can press Command F1.  This will toogle between mirror and extended desktop.
You can find all the settings in System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement tab.

  • I recently got a hand-me-down Macbook (white) 2010 and want to restore to factory settings. The computer did not come with any discs. It is running 10.6.8 and I purchased 10.6.3 recently to upgrade my MacBook Pro. Can I use that to restore the MacBook?

I want to give the hand-me-down to my kids so they will stay off my MacBook Pro I'd like to start fresh with the MacBook, remove all the former owners information, restore it to factory settings, but it did not come with any installation discs, so I don't know what to do. I recently purchased Snow Lepoard for my 2008 MacBook Pro. Can I use that to restore the MacBook? Also, the former owner purchased Microsoft Office (ugh) with the computer but again, no installation discs. How do I keep that when I restore?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

I purchased a mini to HDMI cable and tried to connect to the TV but the TV is not recognizing the computer. I attempted to set sound and display settings under the "my Preferences" utility with no success.  Again, I'm not sure if I need to upgrade my OS software Any Suggestions?
