Can I use two apple tv's with one itunes library?

I have been looking for a way to store my DVD's on a hard drive and watch them via my Apple TV as they are taking up too much space on my shelves. My first thought was to buy a large external hard drive and rip the dvd's using Handbrake for my streaming to my Apple TV gen 3 but I remembered that I still have my original 160gig Apple TV gen 1 which pretty much works as a large iPod for movies when syncing content rather than streaming.
So my plan would be :
1. Rip and add the dvd's to my iTunes library
2. Manually sync the movie files to the Apple TV 1
3. Delete the movies from iTunes to avoid using large amounts of computer hard drive space.. (this shouldn't interfere with the content on the Apple TV as syncing manually)
4. Connect the Apple TV to my TV to watch movies.
Can I have both of my Apple TV's connected to my iTunes library?
Are there any con's to using the old 1st gen Apple TV in this manner? For instance, I know there is no HDMI connection and the processor is older and slower than the newer versions.
It would be a shame to not be able to put the 160gig of hard drive space on the older Apple TV to good use, especially as it still works perfectly.. and it was a refurb when I bought it!

We cannot comment on your plans to copy DVD's but I have a number of Apple TV 1's, 2's and 3's all working together without a problem.
On the idea of keeping your content on your Apple TV 1 and deleting it from iTunes, you may want to read my article on this topic.

You can use one ID for iTunes/iTunes Match, and another for iCloud, without any problems. You can add a secondary iCloud account in System Preferences (or Settings)>Mail, contacts and Calendars. Its data will appear alongside the main iCloud account though you cannot use PhotoStream with it.

  • How can I run 12 Apple tv's off one itunes library?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone had a solution for running 12 apple tv's off one itunes.
We have recently setup a system with 12 1st gen apple tv's. After purchasing them we found there was a maximum restriction of having 5 Synced and 5 Streaming apple tv's per instance of itunes. The synced ones are set to not actually sync any content, but can however still access all of the itunes content as long as thec omputer is on. So essentiality they are all 'streaming', we never intended to store content on the apple tv's. As soon as you try to add an 11th apple tv to the itunes, one of the other apple tv's (at random) will no longer be able to access the computer running itunes and gets 'kicked off'. Has anyone done this and is there a way around it? I had thought of trying to run 2 instances of itunes pointed at the same library, with half of the apple tvs paired with each instance, but that doesn’t seam possible?
The new apple tv's use home sharing, does anyone know how many 2nd gen apple tv's can run off one itunes simultaneously?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
I haven't been able to verify it because I only have 3 Apple TV 2's, but it's generally assumed there is also a limit of 5 devices for homesharing too.

  • How can I use two apple id's on one macbook air?

I have two accounts on my macbook air and two apple id's mine and my husbands. He has his set up on his account and I have mine set up on my account. Only problem is is that it seems we can only have one id associated with the computer at one time and to change it we have to wait 90 days.
How can I get around this?

One or both of you needs to buy your music on Amazon.  Then the re-downloading process will be from the Amazon Cloud, which, for obvious reasons, does not have any restrictions about Apple ID.

  • Can I use 2 Apple tv's with 1 iTunes???

    hey everyone,
ok I have the 1st Gen Apple Tv and love it, I wanna get anther Apple Tv for my bedroom but I want to be able to update/use/stream them/sync all from my iMac iTunes.
when I called apple (a few day's after the new apple tv came out) the guy said I wouldn't be able too, he really didn't sound like he knew, and he took a guess.
now if you go the iTunes and then look in "preferences" and then go to the Apple Tv tab your see there is sayes "Apple TV's to connect to iTunes" now thats telling me you can connect more than 1 Apple Tv to 1 iTunes.
so the question is, can I use a G1 Apple Tv and a G2 Apple Tv on the same itunes???
    Thanks for helping/reading

The answer is YES. with no problems. In fact you can connect up to FIVE units in one itunes (But no more). I have no idea why OR who was the FOOL, that picked only 5 units. This has set limitation on their own product. I currently use 5 Apple Tvs at work for a interdepartmental media network. It just runs slide shows and training video's. I needed 9 units up and running, So I have another computer just to pickup the last 4 units, and shared the file folders I run 5 units at home as well. However you have to leave that itunes up and running. The five authorized limitation is also a pain. Steve said he was dong away with DRM, I guess that didn't work out to well. In short, I run 5 laptops, 3 desktops, 1 Mac Pro, 4 Ipads, 4 Iphones AND one Mac Mini with server 10.5.6 for a family of 4. The FIVE number limitation is a major pain. Best of luck to you.

  • HT1495 Can I have two apple id accounts on one iTunes account?

My son has just been given an iPhone. At present he is using my iTunes account so I have all his purchases of songs and apps on my itunes account. Can I set up another apple id account on my iTunes so or is there a way for him to copy all his purchases and load them onto his own iTunes?

Yes, you can. Apple IDs are really not meant to be shared.

  • Can you run 2 Apple TV's from one iTunes Library?

Is it possible to run two ATV's at the same time? If I bought a second ATV for my bedroom, will I be able to sync or stream it from the existing Itunes library? If yes, can can both ATV's be running at the same time?
    Thanks.

If you are streaming from both pc's at the same time your network needs to shift twice as much information as before, the slowest network which would likely be an all wifi g network should easily cope with 2 tv's, but in circumstances where there is already quite a few other devices using the network, distances are quite large and interference might be a factor, the added throughput from a second tv might begin to push things to the limit.
Don't let me put you off, as I say 2 tv's shouldn't be a problem for most networks, I just didn't want you unaware that you should think about whether your network is already stretched or not.

  • HT204053 Can I have multiple apple ids associated with one itunes acct?

When using iCloud with multiple devices (my kids phones, computers and mine), syncing causing all sorts of problems like losing contacts & info between devices. Is there any way to create an apple id for each person but still use the same iTunes account?

yes you can still sync all the devices on itunes using one master itunes/appleID account.
    Music:
If you want to select specific playlists for your kids, DON'T enable iTunes Match on their devices, otherwise they will get ALL the playlists on their devices (learned that the hard way)
If you have wi-fi synced enabled that should still work.
    Apps:
I manually select which apps they get on their devices using itunes. It only changes when they re-sync.
Don't enable AUTO downloads on their devices for Apps or Music purchases.
Since I also have young kids using these devices:
I have restrictions setup on their devices. I don't allow them to install/delete apps, nor do I allow them to make any account changes on their devices. This way their devices stay in order and get backed up to icloud. I can easily restore their devices if I needed too.
Once in a while I will disable the restrictions so I can update all their apps.
    Hope this helps!

Hi, does someone know if I can use two Apple tv's with the same iTunes library?

Yes you can use two (or more) AppleTVs with one iTunes library. They can both stream from iTunes (or the internet) at the same time, as long as you have a good working LAN and internet connection.

  • Can I use two Apple IDs for my purchases

Say spouses have separate AppleID's for purchases, can they both be used on a single user account Mac with iTunes?
Will iTunes handle two distinct accounts?
I assume it's not an issue for two iPhones as they're separate.
I guess the only other option would be one AppleID for Apps and purchases and separate AppleIDs for iCloud synching?
Again, wondering if a Mac or even an iPhone can accomodate purchases made under two separate AppleID's?

Can i Use The Apple Wired Keyboard With Camera Connector Kit
    3g 64gb verizon

People report it is still possible to use a wired USB keyboard with the CCK, if you use a powered USB hub to get around the "not enough power" error message.  (I have done this with an older Apple USB keyboard my non-jailbroken iPad1 on iOS 4.3.3.)  Normally, powered USB hubs have a AC power adapter so you lose portability unless you can find a battery powered USB hub.  At this point, the (in)convinience of the USB hub becomes an issue, depending on what you get.
And wired USB keyboard were never supported for the iPad.  So there's no guarantee that it will continue to work with future iPad updates from Apple.  So best to go with a Bluetooth keyboard unless you have a specific USB keyboard that you "must" use.  If you have all the equipment already, I say give it a try.  But I would not recommend trying a USB keyboard if you have to purchase anything.
