CAN I USE VERSION 5.0.4 ON MY NEW iMAC?

THE OLDER VERSION IS MUCH MORE USER FRIENDLY IN MY OPINION. VIEWING THE ENTIRE LIBRARY WITH NEW IMPORTS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN WITH THE OPTION OF CLICKING & DRAGGING TO AN ALBUM IS SIMPLE & FAST. I LIKE TO CLICK ON PHOTOS/BATCH CHANGE/TEXT & NAME THE GROUP WITH AUTOMATIC NUMBERING AND THEN HAVE THE TITLES APPEAR UNDER THE PHOTOS IMMEDIATELY. LENSCAP

Yes you can but you really shouldn't. You'll be runnng a PPC app on an Intel machine, it will be slower. You'll miss all of the many, many improvements since then - Non-Destructive Editing, much breater capacity, easy multiple libraries and much improved editing tools, integration with the OS - and it's just a matter of learning a little. Everything you mention can be done - and in much the same way - with iPhoto 09.

  • Can i use a 2007 quicken software on my new iMac?

Can I install a Quicken 2007 program on my new iMac even tho it is not supporting Power PC?

No, you will not be able to use Quicken 2007 on OS X Lion 10.7.x. However if you still have your old Mac and can export the data you can import the data into a new app such as iBank. Intuit came out with a letter to it's users about a month ago that they plan on porting Quicken 2007 so that it will be able to run on a Lion however they were not specific about when that would happen. Here is a recent article that talks about that letter:
    http://techcrunch.com/2011/12/22/in-a-reversal-intuit-will-make-quicken-2007-for -mac-work-with-lion/
There are many many apps available that will take the place of Quicken for Mac. Personally I made the switch to iBank many months ago after using Quicken for over 20 years on both PC's and Macs. It was very clear Intuit does not take the Mac market seriously. I found importing my data from Quicken 2007 to be very easy and was able to fulfill all my needs with iBank. You will get similar success stories from users that chose other applications too. I like iBank because it provided a 30 day fully functional trial period, it has great support including online tutorials which you can see at:

  • Can I use the old Classic mode on a new iMac?

On my old iMac G5 running OS X 10.3.9, I also had a "Classic" mode that worked with all my old apps. I just bought a newer iMac (10 months old) running OS X version 10.6.6. Can I install Classic on it too? If not, is there some other way that I can run my old Photoshop, Word etc. on my new computer?

The various free Office-like open source applications are great, however learning to use the Gimp, for anyone who is used to the way Photoshop and Mac programs work, is a challenge. And that is an understatement of the case! Instead of struggling with the Gimp, for less than 100 bucks one can buy Photoshop Elements. It will do everything the Classic version of Photoshop would do, that "regular" people would want, and then some (there are some things that professionals do, such as working with CMYK, that Elements doesn't do). Another option is Pixelmator, but I've been trying it (it was on sale in the new Mac App Store), and it just isn't as good as PS Elements, and its regular price isn't all that much cheaper.

  • I own PSE 10 installed on my MacBook Pro.  Can I use the disc to install it on new iMac?

Have PSE 10 installed on my MacBook Pro.  Can I use the discs to install it on my new iMac?  also considering PSE 11 and Lightroom 4. Comments?

Yes you can install it on your new Macintosh.  If it does not have an optical drive then you can copy the contents of the installation media to a USB drive and then install the software from there.

  • Can I use my backup drive (OSX) on my new IMAC?

I just bought a new iMac and I made the upgrade to Mavericks. I have a backup on an external HD made with time machine from my former iMac.
Will my new Mac read my backup drive if I plug it in? I'd just like to make sure before I go any further.
Edit: my question is not about transfering the files (I might have to do this, but it would fill up my HD), but about reading the files and using the applications from the external drive.

Depends on what these 'files' are..... docs, pics, anything in your User folder is fine; I was talking earlier about applications - those should be moved to your internal. You can also direct your iTunes, iPhoto, and iMovie libraries to your external instead of having them on your internal. If you do move applications manually, it's a bit difficult depending on the app and its' install methods as you may not get all the bits and pieces by simply dragging the app icon. And, another concern are possible registration keys with some apps.
Right now it's too late to use Setup Assistant, but..... you could simply invoke recovery (Command + R keys during startup or restart), once there, go into Disk Utility, wipe your drive, and reinstall Mac OS - during that setup phase, do use Setup Assistant right at the beginning. After that, simply go back to the app store and reinstall Mavericks. A bit more time consuming, but you would have it just the way you want it!

  • Can I use my PC CS6 subscription on my new Mac?

Bought an Apple iMac as my PC was crap, can I use my subscription to get CS6 on my Imac or do I have to re-purchase?

    Hi DarrynFisher
A Creative Cloud subscription can be used on a Mac or PC.  However, if you have a CS6 perpetual license this is platform specific.  Platform swaps are available for current versions if you change operating system - http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/order-product-platform-language-swap.htm l.

I’m pretty sure Adobe NEVER intended for someone to copy an XMP file from one photo to another outside of LR as a way to replicate settings.   You can make a preset from a photo, as discussed, or if you don’t want to do that, copy-paste the settings from a representative photo that you initially select to one or more new photos.  You could have a special LR folder that holds standard photos to copy/paste from.  Of course creating a Develop preset from the representative photo is the “normal” way to handle such situations, but maybe you have hundreds of different situations to copy settings from and don’t want to create presets for each one, but I’d argue that you could create a complex folder hierarchy for your presets and still have them findable without that much problem.
As far as the mystery about why some photos show Reset and some show From Metadata, is the Process Version (down in Camera Calibration) of the photo before reading the settings the same between the two situations?  And in general, are these virgin photos newly imported into LR or have some been modified in LR, already?  Does an XMP file already exist for any of these, where that XMP is being overwritten by your external-to-LR copying?  Or do you have auto-write-XMP enabled and your hand-copied XMP is getting overwritten by LR, automatically, before you have a chance to read in anything?

If you can find drivers for it (it could be partially supported already since OS X comes with a load of drivers build in)... I guess it could work.

It is not possible to delete an apple id completely. You can only delete information like credit card, adress, name... To do this, go to iTunes Store, click on your email adress in the upper right corner and enter your password. Now you can manage your account.
An apple id without password is not possible.

Yes, if you use an application like Genie Timeline Pro, which was designed for this type of purpose.  Genie Timeline will make a complete copy of your Dell on the first backup. After that, it will only backup the changes that have occurred since the last backup.
