Can I use VMware as a solution to Boot Camp not working?

OK so here's the deal:
I've been trying to install WIndows XP SP2 via Boot Camp so that I can use my 80 GB zune with my new black macbook. Unfortunatley I've been running into problems. I didn't format my windows during set up and now when I try to run windows during boot camp a black screen with a white cursor in the left corner of the screen appears. I'm willing to buy VMware Fusion. Will VMware work if I'm having trouble with Boot Camp?

The simple answer is this. When you partition using the Boot Camp Assistant, it doesn't format anything, so it's all using the Mac Journaling File System. In order for Windows to work, it has to be on a FAT32 or NTFS file system, Windows itself can't read the Macs file system. And that friend... is why you had problems

Can you use Windows 7 to partition a Boot Camp created dedicated PC drive (not just a PC partition on a Mac drive) into multiple PC partitions?

Can you download this utility, it is a close equivalent of the gpt command, but has more features? (It is more than likely that Windows took over and converted this to an MBR disk).

  • How can you use Win 7 upgrade disk if Boot Camp 4 doesn't support XP or Vista?

I've just purchased a Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade disk to upgrade my Win XP Pro. I haven't installed Lion or Boot Camp 4 yet but am concerned that if I need to reinstall Win 7 in the future the upgrade disk will require that Win XP Pro be installed first.
If  my Win XP Pro isn't supported and can't be reinstalled in Lion/Boot Camp 4, does anyone know what my options would be?
Can't get to Microsoft tech support without having a post-install product ID and their forums don't seem to cover this specific question for Mac/Boot Camp users or VMWare/Parallels users. I'm hoping that once activated that might be enough to turn the upgrade disk to a full version for reinstalling, but I'm not betting on it.
Any help appreciated before I permanently remove my XP Boot Camp partition for a clean install of Win 7 Ultimate.
    Thanks

  • Can I use a NVIDIA card only for Boot Camp in MacPro5,1

I bought an ACER HN274H 3D monitor and then found out that 3D (primarily for gaming) won't work with the ATI Radeon HD 5870 card that I have in the PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot.  I assume the easiest fix would be to put a NVIDIA card in one of the remaining PCI Express 2.0 x4 slots.  A post from 2008 said that 2 cards should work if only one is plugged into the monitor at a time - one for MacOSX and the other for Boot Camp.  I wanted to confirm if that still is the case for Boot Camp where I'm running Windows 7.  What would be a reasonable NVIDIA card that would not exceed power of 300W combined maximum for all PCI Express slots (no other PCI cards currently); primarily for gaming with 3D option.
This would be for a Mac Pro bought in Nov 2010.  Other relevant info:
      Processor Name:          Quad-Core Intel Xeon
      Processor Speed:          3.2 GHz
      Number Of Processors:          1
      Total Number Of Cores:          4
BTW, HN274H works ok in 2D for both OS's.
    thanks!

ebay or eVGA for used and refurbished GTX 285, though eVGA may be out of those, they were $129 after selling for $449-499, Mac Edition.

300W is without using two 6-pin aux power video card cables, 75W per slot.
So as long as the 5870 is present you need to look into a 450W PSU to rig together to add 6/8-pin aux power to an additional card.
My understanding though is that a PC card under OS X needs support, the fan can run constantly.... not my forte as to how and what to expect.
    OSX and Graphics Cards
GTX 460 and above would fill your needs.

  • Can i use 32 bit windows 7 for boot camp?

I recently purchased a 15 inch mbp retina display and wanted to use boot camp to install windows 7 on it. I accidentally purchased 32 bit instead of 64 bit.  will this still work?

the apple drivers only comes in 64bit so it would be like running windows in safe mode in terms of drivers

  • HT1349 I can only use speaker on iphone. Built in speaker not working?

My built in speaker on my iphone is not working. I have to use speaker to hear caller

I did!!  I went to Apple store, they ran diagnostics and cleaned it, all okay...got new sim card, AND still had the issue.  I really didn't want to do a total restore as they suggested.  It just so happened that I run the free version of Word with Friends.  I was curious if some of the ads may have reckoned with it.  So...I said to self, "Self, let's just delete the app."  So I listened to self. And VIOLÁ!!! Problem solved!!  Good luck with it...maybe if you run some "FREE" apps that run ads...could just be the issue!!

  • Can I use second internal hard drive for boot camp? OptiBay question.

I have a MBP. I have replaced the original HDD with a 160 Gb unit. I have replaced the optical drive with a 500 Gb unit via OptiBay. Right now, the 500 Gb drive is my startup volume, and has OS 10.5.6 living on it.
What I want to do is use 32 Gb of the original drive for a Windows (either XP or 7) volume and the rest of it as HFS+ for storage of stuff (videos, photos, and stuff like that)
I have rEFIt installed on the startup volume. I have played with triple boot setups, etc., in the past.
So how do I install Windows? I will have to use an external DVD drive, of course, and I have a 32 Gb partition that is FAT32 now. Can I insert the Win DVD and let it try to find the right partition? How about drivers? This does get a little bit more interesting.
I am not going to use Windows for production, etc., but would like to be able to play with it.
Sorry if I am bring up a previously answered question, but the OptiBay deal didn't show up in my searches.
    Thanks
    Roger

Yes, lots of Mac Pro users do that.
It's still a good idea to make secondary backups, especially to a portable external HD, that you can take off-site, so you're protected against fire, flood, theft, direct lightning strike on your power lines, etc.
[CarbonCopyCloner|http://www.bombich.com> is donationware; [SuperDuper|http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html] has a free version, but you need the paid one (about $30) to do updates instead of full replacements, or scheduling.

Well if there is a EFI block, then running a program in OS X isn't going to do a lick of good.
After all EFI was designed for Trusted Computing and Digital Rights Management, to act between the OS and hardware, can read drives, contact the Internet and everything.
Windows doesn't use EFI, will have UEFI in Windows 8 though.

    My main concerns are:
-If I use iTunes on my main computer, will it then be available to Apple TV?
-If I use Apple TV to download will it be available to my Main computer?
-Can the Apple TV use a media server for storage over LAN (using NTFS Samab or otherwise)?
Basically iTunes feeds AppleTv with media either syncing (copying to it) or streaming live.
Media must be compatible with AppleTV.
AppleTV requires a proper iTunes instance running - it cannot access a NAS directly.
If you store media in a folder on a NAS and it's part of the computer iTunes library (just stored on the NAS vs internal/external drive), then when running iTunes makes this content available to AppleTV.
    Data will travel:
NAS > network > iTunes > network to AppleTV
As the path is potentially slower than internal/external attached drive > iTunes > network > AppleTV, it may or may not work robustly for streaming.
If AppleTv is set to sync (it can also stream in this mode), when you purchase direct on AppleTV, the media should sync back to where the itunes library is stored (via iTunes) to keep things in sync and to allow you to backup the media.
You cannot drag/drop media to/from AppleTv across the network, nor can it directly access storage itself - iTunes is an essential cog in the wheel.
The majority of commercial 'in-built iTunes media servers' will not work directly with AppleTV as it has to be 'paired' with iTunes by entering a numerical code in iTunes and does not simply see 'shared libraries'.

As newer iPhones and iOS versions are made, apps start to drop support for the older versions of the iOS. It looks like you have fallen victim to this. I commend you for sticking with the original iPhone until now, but it looks like it's time for an upgrade if you want to use apps that have dropped support.
Also the new iPhone provides hundreds of new features and spec upgrades from the original. Check it out! http://www.apple.com/iphone/

  • Hello, I'd like to know, if I buy an iphone 5s in us, can I use it in France, and if it's not ok in France, can I be refund ou change it in a French Apple Store?

Hello, I'd like to know, if I buy an iphone 5s in us, can I use it in France, and if it's not ok in France, can I be refund ou change it in a French Apple Store?

If you purchase an unlocked iPhone in the US, you certainly can use it in France.  Not a very smart idea, however, because it's not guaranteed to support the LTE bands in Europe, and if there's a problem with the phone, you will have to either bring the phone back to the US yourself, or send it to someone you know in the US to bring it in to Apple for evaluation.  The iPhone warranty is NOT international.
You cannot refund or exchange a US iPhone in a French Apple Store.
You will be doing yourself a big favor to purchase your phone in France.

  • HT1461 can i play a pc cd with the boot camp

I have a macbook air and bout the USB superdrive... im wondering if i can play a PC made game on the macbook or i need to buy the mac version or if i download the boot camp will it work

BootCamp is only an app that enable your Macintosh to restart and launch on Windows. To do this, it creates a PC partition on your hard drive, but you NEED to install Windows on it.
    See this:
Mac Basics: Using Windows on your Mac with Boot Camp
There's another way to have Windows apps on your Mac, like the emulators. Different exist, free or to sold, but you can search on google for these:
    VirtualBox
CrossOver (no need to install Window! but perfectible)
    Parallels
    VMWare Fusion
