Can i use windows xp in bootcamp

if it came with moutain lion and only gives you the option for windows 7

Be aware that all support for XP by Microsoft and Apple through Boot Camp has ceased. That means there aren't likely to be any up to date drivers to install for support of a MacBook Air that came with 10.8.2.
If you want to run XP natively then get an older MacBook or MacBook Pro. I have XP/sp3 on a 2006 MacBook that works perfectly with older games like Morowind, Half Life, etc. Plus there aren't any CD issues.

  • HT3777 Can I use Windows XP in Bootcamp 3/Snow Leopard?

    I have a 27" iMac (I believe it's still the most surrent—bought it late June 2011.
Parallels and VMWare Fusion have been a pain. Can I use XP or do I have to upgrade and buy a newer version of Windows: Vista or 7?

Thanks. Read the support article, figured that's what it would say. However, just for the heck of it, I tried installing XP and it worked. Had trouble getting my printer driver for the one program I need to use Windows for (a client has a Windows-only program I need to use) but I fianlly got that done too.
When I go back to Lion (had MAJOR problems running my Adobe CS5 suite) or Mt. Lion, I know I'll have to upgrade then.
    Until then, I'm good.

  • Can i install windows 7 via bootcamp (MB Air) while using remote disc? I put the windows 7 disk in my macbook pro drive, and connect to my brand new macbook air. In bootcamp i allocate the partition then i click install and bootcamp will not see the disk.

Can i install windows 7 via bootcamp (on my MB Air) while using remote disc? I put the windows 7 disk in my macbook pro drive, and connect to my brand new macbook air via remote disk. In bootcamp (on my air) i allocate the partition, then i click install, and bootcamp will not see the disk from my macbook pro's drive. How do i get the bootcamp assistant running on my MB air to automatically find the disk in my macbook pro with the ISO image of windows 7? The remote disk on my air can find the cd but bootcamp will not begin installing it. Anyway to do this without buying the damned usb drive?

I don't know first hand if you can use the Remote Disk option with Windows but as of 10.7.2 you can now use BCAssistant to make a bootable USB (thumb drive or external disk) W7 installer with the Boot Camp drivers installed also. Have you tried that yet?

  • I have installed nvidia graphics drivers on windows 7 (bootcamp) now i can't use windows, it's just a black screen, how do i resolve this?

I have installed nvidia drivers from nvidias website for my geforce gt 650m on my early 2013 macbook pro retina 15", now i can't use windows in bootcamp, whenever i go into windows it turns into a black screen before i can see my desktop. How do i resolve this?

From the home screen, double click the home button to bring up the Recently used App list. Find the App with the problem and hold your finger on it untl the Apps start to shake. When that happens tap on the (x) on the right side corner of the app to close it.
Tap the home button again to get back to the home screen, and try to open the App again.
If that doesn't work, try resetting the iPad. (there should be no data loss):
Press and Hold the Power and home buttons until the Apple Logo shows up. Ignore any sliders that may appear.
When the iPad turns back on, try opening the App again.

  • Can you use Windows 7 Support software (drivers) for Windows XP on bootcamp?

I'm just wondering, I'm installing windows XP on my mac running lion. I don't have my lion install disk but Im able to install 'windows 7 support software' from bootcamp which I put on a usb flash drive. My friend says I can use that for Windows XP drivers but i'd just like to ask here.
So basically, can I use windows 7 mac drivers for windows XP? If not is there anywhere I can download them?

Can you use Windows 7 to partition a Boot Camp created dedicated PC drive (not just a PC partition on a Mac drive) into multiple PC partitions?

Can you download this utility, it is a close equivalent of the gpt command, but has more features? (It is more than likely that Windows took over and converted this to an MBR disk).

Once you have it installed you run it as follows. You can execute using either /dev/disk1 or /dev/rdisk1 as the parameter.
    type gdisk
    gdisk is /usr/sbin/gdisk
    sudo gdisk /dev/disk0

  • Can I install windows XP in bootcamp if my mac has 10.9.2?

can I install windows XP in bootcamp if my mac has 10.9.2? Should I just spend the money to get windows 7 and just chaulk it up to more money wasted on gaming?
    Thanks

    No.
You can run it with a virtual machine. If you want to use Boot Camp you need a newer version of Windows.

  • HT5639 can i install windows xp with bootcamp

can i install windows xp with bootcamp? Which version bootcamp should I go for?

Depending on which Mac mini you have and your OS X version, you can install Windows XP or not in Boot Camp.
First, open  > About this Mac, and tell me what OS X version you have. If it's 10.7 or 10.8, you can't install Windows XP. Also, if you have a Mid 2011 or newer Mac mini, you can't install it too. In this case, you have to use Parallels, VMware Fusion or VirtualBox, and install Windows XP on a virtual machine.
If you have 10.5 or 10.6, you can install Windows XP in Boot Camp. Have a look at this website to see which Boot Camp version you need > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5634

How can I use windows software on my iMac? I know I can partition the hard drive but do I need to buy Windows OS?

You can use Boot Camp, which comes with your Mac and install a copy of Windows on a new partition, or you can use a virtual application like Parallels.

  • Overheating while using Windows XP with Bootcamp

    Hi,
I bought a MacBook Pro last September 2009. The MacBook Pro came with Leopard but I installed Snow Leopard a couple of weeks later.
I need to use some Windows-based programs so I am using Windows XP with Bootcamp. However, I notice a high overheating when using Windows on Bootcamp (especially on the left side of the keyboard). Until now, the system doesn't crash but the overheating is a big problem for typing. This problem does not appear while I work on Snow Leopard.
Please, I would appreciate any help. I installed "SMCFanControl" but it only works under OS X (where there is not the problem). It doesn't control the fan on Windows under Bootcamp. Also, for this, I installed "SpeedFan" but it doesn't recognize the fans.
    Thanks in advance.

A little solution that has helped me.
    install both
    Notebook Hardware Control (NHC)
    http://www.pbus-167.com/nhc/nhc.htm#anchor_download
Notebook Hardware Control has a Max Battery setting when you right click on it's icon in the notification section on the task bar (lower right). Make sure to apply this setting.
    and as suggested by Kappy
    Input Remapper
    http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhancements/Input-Remapper.shtml
This program allows you to adjust your fan speed without having to restart from Mac OS. Which is nice because with SMC if you close your macbook while running XP it will turn the fans off. Therefore you have to restart in Mac OS to turn the fan speeds back up.
The combination of the two has kept my cpu in the 65c range while heavy gaming and 45c at idle.
I have tried a lot of the ridiculous things that have been mentioned in both this thread and others. This solution has been an incredible relief because I certainly didn't want to get up every so often to run to the freezer or play over the air conditioner for several hours. I hope you have as much luck as I did.
My Mac is a late 2009 Macbook pro and I'm running XP in bootcamp.

  • Hi, can I install windows XP with bootcamp on my iMac which is now on Maverick? Please help.

Hello all, can I install windows XP with bootcamp on my iMac which is now on Maverick? Please advise. Thank you.

Install 7. Don't bother with applying drivers and such, just reboot again from DVD and install again, it will see the existing system and this time activation will be possible.
Vista is mess, takes longer etc. Hope you have SP1 version of 7. And for Vista, only SP2+ are even supported now, by MS.

can i use windows 10 technical preview for commercial purpose like developing projects in visual studio

No, Windows 10 Technical Preview is for testing and evaluation only , in addition it is not the final version of Windows and it is strongly recommended to use it for testing
    not production.

  • Can javamail use windows default outgoing smtp mail server and port?

how can i use windows default outgoing smtp service and port from javamail? is it possible to retrieve this info or just instruct javamail to use default?
    thanks

Windows doesn't have a default SMTP server. However if you have something like Outlook or Outlook Express or Eudora or Netscape Mail or whatever set up on your Windows box, you will have already told it what SMTP server it should connect to.
That information would be in the Windows registry, or in the config file of whatever e-mail client you already have set up. However it's probably easier to just have your application ask for the SMTP server's name again rather than trying to find where some other application stashed it.
