  • This is the same question I've asked 3x in 24 hours, but it doesn't appear in the listing. Maybe I need help in phrasing questions?:)Q. why can I play some DVDs on my MacBook Pro but not on desk top Apple (they're both -1 year olds

    Hi
This'll be my third attempt in 24 hrs to ask the same question. maybe I need guidance on phrasing questions?:)
    Q. Why can I always play DVDs on my MacBook Pro but not always on my desk top Apple. They're both less than  year old. The desk top sometimes displays a message that says I have to change regions (from Australia to South America...doh...)

    Region Code 4:
Mexico, Central and South America, and the South Pacific.
Includes Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Aruba, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, British Virgin Islands, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Falkland Islands, French Guiana, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, New Guinea, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Uruguay, Venezuela
Apparently my first response was off in left field.  The DVD player has its own code.  My recommendation is to change the code when it asks.  It is possible that the disks that play correctly are region-free and the ones that don't have a region code.  If this does not work, you still have four more changes available; you won't be stuck with the new code.

  • Can I stream a DVD from my MacBook Pro to Apple TV?

When I try to stream a DVD from my MacBook Pro to my tv using Apple TV the video won't play and I just see a chequered pattern in DVD player on the TV screen.  How can I stream a DVD to my TV?

It's an application for playing video.

  • Can I watch a dvd on my macbook and watch it through apple TV?

I have a Sony Bravia EX621.  I am trying to use my MacBook Pro (10.6.8)  as a DVD player.  I have a wireless capable modem for my TV.  Can I play DVD's on my TV with this set-up?

It does, even with Airparrot - my assumption is that Apple block copies of the screen memory for things like iTunes/DVD player at a low level to prevent copying, or because Airplay can be potentially intercepted, converted and stored.

I don't know if the DVD player blocks playback on it as WC says for mirror though.
    VLC player should work however.

  • Can't Burn "Imation DVD+R" on Macbook Pro

Hello, a couple of days ago I tried to burn some files on an "Imation DVD+R." I have an entire spindle of blank Imation DVD + R (Single Layered) and the computer refuses to burn any file on any of them. The discs themselves are in excellent condition.
When I used the "Finder Burner," I got the following error:
"The disc can't be burned, because the device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media."
When i used an application called "Burn" and the "Disc Utility," I got the follow error:
"The disc can't be burned; it might be incompatible with this disc drive. Please try a different brand of disc, or try burning at a slower speed."
I went to the Apple Store and told a Genius what was going on. He put a "Staple DVD-R" and it worked flawlessly. He told me that he believed I purchased a bad "spindle of discs" because "normally Imation works just fine." I went home and tried to burn a file on the disc using my mother's computer (a PC). The disc burned flawlessly. I have about 30 blank DVDs that remain in this spindle. I would hate to get rid of all of them. What worries me is that I think my computer once burned these Imation DVD+Rs just fine (like I said, I really don't remember.)
I called AppleCare and was transferred to a Senior Manager. He said for me to send my computer in and he'll replace the optical drive.
Before I do so, does anyone have any suggestions? Is anyone else unable to burn these Imation DVD+Rs?
Here are some specs on my computer:
    - Macbook Pro (Late 2008)
    - Snow Leopard (10.6.4)
    - Optical Drive is "MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-868"
Thanks for any advice you can give me.
    Best,
    --André

    A brief update:
I dropped my computer off to FedEx on Thurs. evening (6:30 pm) and received it back on Sat. morning (8:30 am). That was incredibly fast!
Anyway, the following parts were replaced.
    - ODD Super Drive (Symptom: Optical Drive Read/Write Data Error)
    - Main Logic Board 2.4Ghz (Symptom: Sensors Test Failed)
    - Optical Cable (Symptom: Drive Read/Write Data Error)
Moral of the story: if a Genius finds a "work-around" a the problem rather than trying to determine the actual cause of the problem, call AppleCare. Do not be afraid to speak with a Senior Manager (because, in my cause, the normal AppleCare technician didn't think anything was wrong.)
Thanks again for your all help.
    Best,

I dont understand why there is no disk drive in my mac book pro with retina display for the money I payed for it. I was wondering if there was anything such as an attachment or something that I could buy to use. Thanks

You may look at this as an option:

Or you may look at players from other manufacturers.

Purchase iLife 11  (includes iDVD) on disk.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.

Yes, there are programs that will put a movie on a DVD.   I have tried most of the other substitutes including Toast, Burn, DVD Creator, Wondershare, and others.  None of them come anywhere near the ease-of-use and power of iDVD. IDVD is specifically designed to work with iMovie.
