Can i work in Aperture 3 with photos on external disk?

I have a small disk (300GB).
I have about of 60000 photos on my 1TB external disk.
Can i work in Aperture, with my photos on my external disk, or first i need to import all my photos into my Mac Pro?
If the Tutorial of Aperture 3 tell me, when i work one photo in Aperture 3, first i need to import all photos to program. Then i need import all photos to my little hard disk in Mac Pro.
I´m a little confused.
Is possible anybody tell me something about this?
Best regrads

I am currently using a MacBook Pro 15" 2.66 8GB DDR3 (June 2009) with a LCD 24" Cinema Display.
Personally I do not store any of my images (over 20,000 Raw) in the computer or reference them (MacBook Pro). I use external Firewire 800 portable hard drives. I use both OWC Mercury On-The-Go Pro 500GB and Iomega 500GB eGo Portable Mac Edition Hard Drive. When importing to Aperture 3.1 library (portable external hard drives) I also backup images to another drive at the time of the import. I use the Vault to backup Aperture 3 Library. Besides my main drive (external) I have two drives that I use for the Vault backup. So now I have backup images and two library backups. I am thinking of going to a 3rd vault on another portable hard drive and store that one in my safety deposit box.
I have found that the firewire 800 works extremely fast with Aperture 3.1.

i lost my macbook pro and i just got a new one. how can i retrieve the pictures taken with photo booth(old laptop) to my new laptop?

Well if you don't have the laptop to get the storage drive out of it, and you don't have any previous backups how do you expect to get the photo's?
PhotoBooth is just a program, it stores the files on the computers storage drive, if the computer is lost so are your photo's.
There is nothing you can do to delete or retrieve them using your new computer unless you stored them online someplace.
DId you save them online? iDisk or something else?
I don't use such services because my data is mine and not theirs to snoop through, so if your looking for that sort of help I can't assist you any.

  • Can RAW images from Aperture library stored in an External HD?

I last night[I thought I did] stored projects from aperture library to an external Iomega Mac version HD.[Partitioned the Iomega into two One large225GB for Time Machine and small 125GB for just back up folders]
Then I have reinstalled my Mac OS.
Now I connect the HD to my Apple Mac Book Air and see the saved images on the external HD but not highlighted and not there for available to open in my Aperture Apps?
I also tried to import selectively the Aperture images from my Time Machine back up and that too failed.
I on opening the Aperture selected "Import photos form a Disk" but that failed too.
I have also saved to the same external HD some modified photos saves as JEPG and they open ok.
When I reinstalled the OS and registered in a different name, would that make any difference to importing Aperture projects saved on an external HD?
Can anybody suggest a way to open those Aperture project folders that I have stored on my External HD?
    Regards

Projects are entirely maintained in the Aperture Library. You can use 'referenced masters', in which your masters don't reside inside the library (and the library merely keeps track of where you decided to keep them.)
When you import new photos, Aperture updates some information in the library so that it knows the photos exist, where they reside, what sort of changes you've made to them, etc. You can't just plop new images into an external folder and expect Aperture to notice them. Think of this as "formally introducing your photos to Aperture" -- via the import process. Aperture wont deal with any photo you haven't introduced to it.
I would be remiss if I didn't mention the alarm bells and red flashing lights that went off as soon as I read you were keeping your photos on an external drive partitioned for Time Machine and backup folders. Bad bad bad.
There are two types of disks in the world: (1) Those that have failed, and (2) those that are going to fail. Sadly, even backup drives are not an exception to this rule.
Never keep the "working" copy of your data on the same physical drive as a "backup" copy of your data. When the drive fails (and someday it will) you'll just lose all your copies of your work -- so much for having a backup. Drives are very cheap these days. Just get another one and dedicate your backup disks just for backups.
As you have a MacBook Air (and thus only a single USB 2.0 port) you might want to look into "Network Attached Storage" (aka NAS). This way you don't have a tangled mess of a USB hub hanging off your Mac with several disk drives also hanging off the side of your Mac. The disks just live on the network - as though they're remote file servers. If the network is connected via Gigabit ethernet, the effective throughput to read/write those drives is about 3x faster than a locally attached USB 2.0 drive (no kidding!). You might think this is really expensive -- but you'd be surprised. I was checking prices at Other World Computing recently (an online store of products targeted to Mac owners) and noticed you can buy an empty NAS enclosure (meaning you buy the disk to go inside it) for as cheap as $25! An enclosure with 250GB disk pre-installed and Time-Machine compatible was about $120. To put this in perspective... I recently paid about $150 for a B+W Circular Polarizing filter. So all this technology costs less than one decent lens filter for my camera.

  • How can I save the images and movies on a  external Disk from iphoto program, to protect the images when problems occur in the laptop,

How can I save the images and movies on a  external Disk from iphoto program, to protect the images when problems occur in the laptop,

    Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store
If you want to back up the Photos only:
Export them using the File -> Export command.

    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4921
has details of the options in the Export dialogue.

  • Backup with time machine. external disk is now full and can't reopened!

Last weekend I tried to do my first backup with the time machine software. For this purpose, I used a external disk containing different kind of documents, pictures and songs. This external disk was used before on a HP (software: windows vista). Unfortunately, during the backup process, I disrupeted the connection and the backup couln't finished. Now, my macbook pro can't recognise the external disk and also on my old HP the external disk is not recognised and no docment can't be opend!! When I look at the properties of this disk, then I see that the external disk is almost full. Does this cause all the problem?
How do I proceed in order to get back all my documents on this disk?

You and your wife share one drive for backup?  Do you backup over wifi or move it around?
Time machine is generally a rock solid tool but you can use it in ways that make it unstable.  I have dedicated drives on 3 macs which run very solid.  I also have one drive on a airport extreme base station (older model which is not supported but does work) that I use with a macbook air.  The macbook air wifi based backup runs into problems a few times a year.  One of my iMacs with a dedicated drive also runs into problems but only when the drive is nearly full.
It sounds like your drive is nearly full and your using multiple notebooks and possibily wifi......If this is the case, you may be way less frustrated by buying dedicated drives sufficiently big for each computer.  That is the experience I can share with you.
    Good luck.

  • Can I connect USB hubs instead of printer or external disk?

I plan to get a MacBook Pro and set up a wireless network. I currently have a couple of USB hubs connected to a PC. To these hubs are connected three printers, two external disks, and several other things. I want to be able to get rid of the PC and access these devices from the MacBook wirelessly. Is the AESB the right thing to use for this setup?
The MacBook Pro will have Snow Leopard as OS.

Most likely yes. The 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station's (AEBSn) USB port is capable of supporting a USB hub with multiple USB printers and/or USB hard drives.

  • Can I have two Aperture projects with same name?

Hi. I'm new to Aperture and an advanced iPhoto user. I started using Aperture sharing the same library with iPhoto (that new functionallity).
I've read lots of manuals and tutorials (Apple's and others) as well as this support topics. I understand iPhoto Events are now Aperture Projects and I've read a lot about how should it be organized and so on.
My problem is: I got, for example, 4 iPhoto Events with the name "Friends". The appear in Apperture as 4 Projects named "Friends". I decided to rename one of them and the I came back to "Friends" name. Aperture won't let me: it appends "(1)". It seems I cannot name to Projects the same way, although I have that.
    Before: Friends, Friends, Friends, Friends
After renaming one of them and trying to get back to original name: Friends, Friends, Friends, Friends (1)
I have that duplicated name because it is like a title, photos of my friends in different time (one Friends is from 2005, other from 2010, and so on, for example).
It seems pretty bad I have to come up with a new name for each new Project, considering I have hundreds of them today. Any tips? Thanks.

If there is nothing separating the images then put them all in the same project. If you have a project Friends you know all your friends images are in there and you can find the ones you want by date or keyword or even Face.
There is no requirement to have the images from different times at the bar to be in different projects. I personally wouldn't work that way but if having a project called Friends at Bar works for you then place all the images of your friends at the bar in that project.
Of course another way to look at this is to use albums to pull all the images of your Friends at Bars together. Don't have the name of the project organize your library, create albums and/or smart albums to collect the images into meaningful groupings.

  • Can I send an E-Mail with photo (not as an attachment)?

I would like to send an E-Mail with a small photo (not as an attachment) to someone who is reluctant to open attachments. Can I do this and how??
    Thank you
    tch

If you insert an image into the body, it will still be 'attached', even though it won't be listed as an attachment in the usual way. Another option is to upload the photo to your personal storage space such as OneDrive or Google Drive, and then email the link to the image. The image can then be displayed in a web browser. If you don't have a storage space, there are plenty of free image-hosting services.

Have you updated Vista to SP2 yet and then update the IE browser to IE9?
You may want to do that first if you have not done so already.
I don't know how to troubleshoot those kind of issues.
You may want to start a new thread asking for help with getting the flash player to work correctly if you are already at that stage.

  • I can't work out how to transfer photos onto my PC

Can anyone help me transfer photos from my Blackberry 9810 onto my PC?  I have the Blacberry software on the PC and it shows me my pictures from my phone, and it shows which folder it will transfer the photos into on the PC, but it doesn't have a "GO" button to begin the transfer.  There is a media synch button but I pressed this and it seemed to start moving stuff from the PC onto the phone.  All I want to do is transfer photos from phone to PC.  Blackberry don't make anything intuitive.  Can anyone help me?  Any help hugely appreciated.

The media sync will move pictures from the handheld device to the PC in the latter part of the sync.
You can always just open your media card from your My Computer link on your PC and drag and drop your pictures and other media from your BlackBerry to the PC. Look for the My Computer > Removable Drive, sometimes it is name "Removable Drive" or BlackBerry.

  • Can FCP work on a macbook with 2gb ram?

I have been using it fine with all other functions but when I go to use the multiclip function it says error not enough memory?

I'd guess that the machine just isn't up to the job... There's reasons Apple doesn't support FCP on MacBook, and you're running into one of them.

  • How do can I work Samsung 2010 printer with OS v10.9?

I just formated my computer macbook pro. My new OS is v10.9. But I cannot to drive samsung printer 2010.

Which model Samsung printer do you have? If it's listed here -> http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669#samsung - you should be able to use the drivers from here -> http://support.apple.com/kb/dl905.
If your printer isn't listed, you'll have to contact Samsung to see if they have any 'new' drivers for the printer model that will run under 10.9.x.
