Can iCal

I have Snow Leopard & Lion on an older Mac, but have now gotten a newer Mac that came with Yosemite.  I've moved several apps from on or another of those two OS's to Yosemite, and been pleased with how that went.  But, I have iCal & AddressBook on Snow Leopard that I've moved over to Yosemite, but not successfully.  I've tried dragging the snow leopard onto the Yosemite version, and U've simply tried opening the Snow Leopard, to be told "You can’t use this version of the application “iCal” with this version of OS X."  So, is the answer that I just have to start again from square one with the Yosemite version?

It's certainly true that I brought over the apps for iCAL & AddressBook, because I don't know where to find the data files for them.  I'll look for something that sounds like e.g., Snow Leopard iCal data.  Thanks for the hint!

  • Can iCal go 6am to 6am instead of midnight to midnight?

This must have been asked before, but I couldn't find it if it was. Can iCal be set to show from 6am to 6am? The default midnight to midnight leaves far too much blank space in the main viewing area for most people.

I have this same question. I love the seemless integration with all my apple devices and so hope there is a script or terminal line that will fix this. Can anyone recomend another similar app that supplies this function. When planning the day it is much more constructive and efficient to be able to view the days events at one time instead of having to turn the page to the next day to view events for after midnight.
    Thanks in advance. dbird6839

The calendar language is determined by system prefs/language & text/formats.
The app language is determined by system prefs/language & text/language, or you can probably use

  • Can ical send reminders to other people about their appointments in my ical

    Hi Guys,
I understand the fact that iCal can send 'invites" when I add an appointment for someone in my calendar but is there anyway to get the "alarm" that sends me a message a set time before the event to instead send them a message just reminding them? I don't want to have to customise the message everytime, just have it send the person invited, a message saying "blah blah blah..tomorrow at 4pm" etc.
Can iCal do that or do I need to change calendar software to do that? I'm a singing teacher, by the way and want to remind people of their lessons
    Many Thanks,
    Gareth

Thanks. If there are other people invited to the appointment it comes up with this
So I don't want to 'move' it or cancel the original appointment. is there another way I can, for example, have my boss's appointments all come up green and mine all come up blue......

  • Can iCal do a reminder message?

I'll be honest, I've never used ical. However working on my Dads mac, I would like to create a reminder or pop-up that he cant MISS to call me about tuning up his mac or doing updates every 4 months or whatever. Can ical do this? If, not, what app can?
In a couple months I would like something large pop up that says "Call Steve for Mac Tuneup " or similar? Like a pop-up post-it note...maybe?
    Steve

    Greetings,
When you add a new event in iCal (just double-click on the day you want) you will see a little field called "alarm". Click on this field to see a list of various choices. Use the "message" option to have a window pop up with a message. Message in this case means the name of the event.
This will pop up at the appointed time regardless of whether iCal is open or not.
    Hope that helps.

  • Can iCal print monthly calendar with a 5 day week?

    Hi,
I can get iCal to display a five day week onscreen easily enough, but I would also like to print a monthly calendar showing only the traditional five-day work week. I havent' been able to do that yet. Is there a way to do it?
    Patrick

All I know is that sometimes the paths don't work right--especially if you're using a swc and you use the "+" button to add a path to it instead of the button that looks like a swc icon. It stands to reason that if you change the path, you could fix the problem, especially if moving the project meant you had to set that up again.

  • Can iCal update while closed?

OK, here's my problem: When I enter an event on my iPhone or iPad or on me.com, it only shows up in iCal after I open iCal. In other words, if I associate an alert with an event on my phone, that alert will never go off on my Mac, unless I left iCal open or I happen to open it sometime before the event.
Now, I just spent some time on chat with Apple and was told that this is normal behavior, that iCal only updates from me.com when it's open. But Address Book updates just fine when closed. And I'm 99% sure that the me.com support guy was wrong, that iCal updates like Address Book. Or DID.
Has the behavior changed? Have I lost my mind and iCal never, ever updates when closed?
I'm willing to accept that I'm completely wrong about this, but I wanted to throw it out to the community and see if anyone else a) remembers the experience the way I do and/or b) knows of any workarounds/apps that will allow me to receive iCal alerts on my Mac without needing to leave iCal open all the time.
    Thanks!

Under the old system, which used SyncServices as does Address Book, updates could take place even while iCal wasn't actually running.
With the new MobileMe calendar, because iCal isn't really syncing but is reading the calendar off the MobileMe server (much the same as webmail) updates can only take place while iCal is actually running. This means that if you add an event with an alarm on another device while iCal is not running, the event won't be added until iCal is opened and may well be missed.
In order to be sure you would need to run iCal but hide it, so that it won't be visible and in your way but can still update.

  • Can iCal display a month bar at the bottom?

Is it possible to make iCal display the useful bar at the bottom  - so you can click straight into any month - the way it displays on the iPad and also the iCloud website? If so, how do I do this?

    Not that I have found.
If using the <today> link or swiping through the months while in Month view takes to long you can set the iCal page to show 'Year' then double click the month you want.

  • Can iCal show all recurring events?

I have a bunch of recurring events throughout the year in iCal, and I'd like to see a list of them.  Or at least, find them one by one, to see what's there (and what isn't).  Is there some way I can do a search that shows me a list of only the recurring events?

    Hi Roger,
Put a " in the search box works (for some reason). iCal's search is done by Spotlight. It can take a little while if you have a lot of events.

  • How can ical items entered offline be updated on icloud when back online?

My workplace blocks iCloud (and the app store). When I enter or modify ical events they do not update when I am back online at home. Refresh was of no help. I had to edit the items for them to appear on other devices. Is there a way around this?

    Here is what I did.
I got a message and forgot I still have til June... so like a fool I switched over online.
All I see is a new type of calendar. OK no biggie it has my data. But now the one on my MBP won't sync... with the phone, and the one on my iPhone was erased totally.. UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I managed to reset the mail using the new server settings but that wasn't as important as the CALENDAR!!!
Also I don't DARE upgrade my iPhone (I can't anyway until I do 10.7 on the MBP but I have to make sure PS works on that first) because it has all my contacts and phone numbers, which are NOT the same as my groups of emails on my MBP...
The Contact book and Calendar data from the MBP are OK, they are up on iCloud and also saved as files on my HD in .ics, .icbu,  .vfc and .abbu data.
I would upgrade my iPhone but I just don't get why it has to be via iTunes... it is SOOO confusing.

  • How much data can iCal accommodate?

I have used iCal for many years and synchronize it with my iPhone. Are there limitations on the amount of data iCal can accommodate?

    Diapason,
There are no published iCal data limitations that I am aware of.

  • Can Ical display a picture for a specific event?

    Hello
I was wondering if it is possible to display a picture for a specific event in ICal:
For exemple if tomorrow it is someone birthday, I will like to see a picture of his face on my Ical
I saw that on someone facebook I think it is called itoday
    Any help?

Not really. For birthdays if you double-click the event there is a link to the Address Book entry, and you can have a picture there. For other events you can add a link to a picture file; double-click the event then follow the link to show the picture.
I think iToday is some sort of online newspaper.

  • Can iCal show a years weeks in numbers?

Hello! In Sweden most people plan their lives using the years weeks insted of months. Is it possible for iCal to also show a weeks number instead of only months, dates and days?
We say for instance: - "Can you help me with... week 38?".
It would be of great help if someone can help me with this!
    Tjenis,
    Mikael

    Hi DB,
Just for interest then, as there seems to be some already on iCal Share.

  • How can iCal entries made on iPhone be set as email reminders?

My Google Calendar is sync'ed with iCal.
If I add an entry in iCal on my iPhone, this is automatically just set as a pop-up reminder (in Google Calendar) and message (in iCal).
I would like this to be set as an email reminder.
If I create the entry in iCal on my laptop (or in Google Calendar, also on my laptop), I can go in and set it as a pop-up reminder.
I've even set up the notifications in Google Calendar as email notifications.
Still, when I add the entry in iCal on the phone, it's set up as a pop-up reminder.
    Frustrating!

I have this problem too. I have an iPhone 4, and this wasn't a problem when I bought the phone back in December. I think it came a month or so later and I suspect with a standard upgrade of something like itunes, or iphone software... but I can't pinpoint it to any specific update as it took me a while to notice it. For me, it does this with my work calendar which is run through Microsoft Outlook. But it's the exact same thing - and it means my calendar isn't reliable anymore.
I've made sure the time-zone settings are correct, I've updated all software, and gone through all possible settings for both my i-phone and Outlook. Nothing fixes the problem, even our tech guy at work didn't know what to do. I know it's not just my phone as the exact same thing has happened with my boss's iPhone which is an iPhone 3G, and it frustrates him to no end.
I'm really hoping someone at apple can tell us what's going on, especially since it never used to do this and there doesn't seem to be any way to fix it. If someone thinks they know what itunes update this was due to, let me know - I'll see if I can go back to that older version.

  • Can iCal send email alarms to someone other than self?

I would like to have iCal send an email to someone other than myself via an alarm. Is that an option and if so, how is it done? Thanks in advance.

If you have a ISP based email it can only be sent through Mail via your home ISP connection (or the same ISP elsewhere).
If you use the ISP's web page email access then you can do it from any machine or on any ISP.
Most people use a free web based email like GMail or Yahoo, then they can access through any computer with a web browser anywhere.
I haven't used Mail in years.
