Can icloud be set to only copy/save music files?

I would rather not have this program copyng all my photos, documents and looking for all of my so called 'freinds' - can it be set up to only copy/save my music and audio books?

Welcome to the Apple Community.
iCloud sync services are nothing to do with your music and books, you don't need to enable calendar, contact etc syncing to take avantage of iTunes in the cloud services.
Additionally you can turn on/off individually any of the sync services if you chose to enable iCloud sync services.

    Hi ladextr,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  To sync your music to your iPad, first put your music in iTunes as described here:
Adding music and other content to iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1473
Adding content on your computer to iTunes
iTunes helps you add digital audio and video files on your computer directly to your iTunes library. You can add audio files that are in AAC, MP3, WAV, AIFF, Apple Lossless, or Audible.com (.aa) format. If you have unprotected WMA content, iTunes for Windows can convert these files to one of these formats. You can also add video content in QuickTime or MPEG-4 format to iTunes. To learn how to add these files to iTunes follow the steps below.
    Open iTunes
From the File menu, choose one of the following choices:
    MacAdd to Library
    Windows
    Add File to Library
    Add Folder to Library
Navigate to and select the file or folder that you want to add
If iTunes is set to "Copy files to the iTunes Music folder when adding to library," iTunes will copy all content that is added to the iTunes library to the iTunes Music folder. To adjust this setting or change the location of this folder, go to the Advanced tab in iTunes Preferences.
Once that's done, you can sync the music to your iPad by following this article:
iTunes 11 for Windows: Set up syncing for iPod, iPhone, or iPad

My suggestion to use the smart playlist was more along the lines of making one list with rules to show everything in your library as long as it was kind "mpeg" (= mp3).
Smart playlists cannot be edited manually, only by changing the rules.  You can use them as the basis for another smart playlist though.
There is added overhead to using smart playlists, so don't go overboard.

How can I change my safari preferences to save a file rather than it downloading

    danieladorotiak wrote:
When I click on the 'save application file, it download's it and doesn't give me the option to save it.
I can't be sure, but what probably happens is that the page doesn't give you a link to a downloadable file, but a button which activates a script. There's nothing you can do about that, because you don't control the script.
it just downloads the transcripts not the document.
It sounds like the downloaded file does not open or execute as it's supposed to (which, for instance, would happen if what you downloaded was a Java application, but you didn't have Java installed).
If you are allowed to, give us the URL and we'll have a look. Also, you should add what version of Mac OS X and of Safari you are using, and you should correct your profile (which says "Mac Pro" -- this forum is for the MacBook Pro, which is a different computer from the Mac Pro).

  • How can i copy the music files from itunes in mp3 format to my PC

How can i copy the music files from itunes in mp3 format to my PC

    Dr. P,
Song files are just files.  You can copy them the way you copy any other files, like photos or documents.
If any of the files are not already in MP3 format, and you wish to create MP3 versions, then you can convert them using iTunes, by following this guide:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1550

  • Can itunes be set to sync with your music library?

Can itunes be set to sync with your music library? Everytime i add music to my computer i have to go to itunes and add it. If i move music on my computer then itunes gets lost and i have to add it again and then go back and delete all the broken links in itunes. Is there a better way?

iTunes does not at present have any good feature for watching folders and automatically importing tracks you add to a folder. Using strictly iTunes, unless you drop the tracks into the "Automatically Add to iTunes" folder in the iTunes Music folder, you'll have to add any such tracks manually, by dragging them to the iTunes window or by using the Add To Library command. Here are a couple of potential solutions from other developers, though:
    http://albumbrowser.klarita.net/iTunesFolderWatch.html
    http://www.lifehacker.com/software/itunes/hack-attack-automatically-sync-itunes- to-any-folders-175161.php
The same applies if you move a track from folder to folder manually; that will break iTunes' links to the track file and you'll have to re-add or relocate it in iTunes.
Thanks to Meg and Hudgie for the tips.

  • HT1386 I had to reinstall Windows 7 on my PC, when I synced my iPhone to my PC only the iTunes music files moved back to PC, how do i get my non-iTunes music files back onto my PC?

So as i stated I reinstalled Windows 7 on my PC, wiping the harddrive in the process. I didn't copy my music files to a third device because I assumed I would be able to retrieve all my songs from my iPhone 4 when I resynced the devices. Unfortunately only my iTunes-purchased songs went back to my desktop. This leaves about 1400 songs that I ripped from CDs on my phone and I can't see how to get those songs from my iPhone to my desktop again. I would really like to not have to waste a day ripping CDs again. Can anyone help?

You need to restore them from the backup that you should have of your computer that you made before reinstalling Windows 7. The iPhone is not a backup device.

  • Error message when copying a music file from PC to BB

I get the following error message when copying a music file. Also I cannot delete any files.
"Cannot copy. The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error."

Hello lcoyote and welcome to the BlackBerry Support Community Forums.
Do you get the error on all media files or just one in particular? From where are you trying to delete files?
    Is your media card formatted?
If you aren't able to add/remove media, try formatting the card as shown in KB10527
If you currently have photos on the card, try to move them to the computer first as formatting the card will delete all data.
Let me know how you make out
    Thanks!

  • Set up textedit to save python files (help me please)

Guys, I need a little help. Since last week I'm trying to set up text edit to start using python on Mac. But everytime I save any file with .py extension, it changes to blabla.py.rtf and have to choose maintain both extensions or only rtf/ txt. I checked textedit preferences and couldn't get it to work. I don't want to use third-party apps.

There is nothing wrong with third party apps. TextEdit is not appropriate for source code. TextWrangler is excellent. You can use Xcode but it is kind of overkill for python. If you really want to learn programming, vi is a useful skill to have.

  • Computer Crashed - Only Copy of Music on ipod

My computer recently Crashed, and the only copy of all my music is on my ipod shuffle. i tried connecting the ipod to my work PC but i-tunes asks me if i would like to use the existing library on my work pc (of course not) because its empty, and if i erase my ipods library, i will have nothing.
    Any One Have a Solution!!!!??????
    Dell PC   Windows XP

Here's something that might help from Kim Komando:
    Q. My hard drive crashed and I lost everything, including my iTunes files. The music is still on my iPod, but Apple says they can't move the songs from the iPod to the iTunes library. Is there any fix to this problem?
    A. Unfortunately, many people still do without backups. But in your case, your iPod serves as a backup for iTunes. The only problem is getting music from the iPod back into iTunes.
iTunes can be a great music organizer. But the iTunes-iPod relationship goes only one way. You can transfer music from iTunes to iPod, but not vice versa.
To get around this, you must use a third-party program. Such programs--like iPodFolder (free), CopyPod ($20) and Anapod Explorer ($25)--are marketed as backup tools. But they can also recover music from your iPod after a computer crash.
Assuming you have re-installed all of your programs, iTunes should be empty. Do not connect the iPod and sync it to iTunes. That will empty the music database on the iPod, and you will not be able to listen to the songs on it.
Instead, do not re-install iTunes. If you have already done so, uninstall it. Otherwise, iTunes processes running in the background could prevent copying the music off the iPod.
Next, install one of the third-party programs on the computer. Connect the iPod to it and copy the music to the computer. After transferring the music, remove the iPod connection. Re-install iTunes. Then copy the music to iTunes.
Once you have the same library on both the iPod and iTunes, you can safely connect the two.
The automatic sync feature can be turned off, but you have to connect your iPod to access the right setting. Your iPod's music database will be wiped out before you can disable the automatic sync. It's a terrible catch-22.

  • Can't change iTunes folder - Keeps copying apps/music to C: drive

I'm trying to keep all of my media organized - I have told iTunes to chage the drive and folder for my media, yet every time I download something, it is putting it into my C: dive (My Music) folder.  How do I fix this?
    I'm running Win7 64bit & 64bit iTunes

An "iTunes library" has to be understood as a combination of two things, the iTunes Music folder with all the music files and the iTunes Library file, which is a catalog of information about the music files that make up a particular library. (The .xml file is not critical but is automatically created by iTunes.) This description is a little simplistic, because the music files associated with a library can actually be located in multiple places, not just in the default music folder.
The location of the folder to which new music files are ripped is determined by the iTunes Music folder setting you described. The default location for the iTunes Library file is in the home/Music/iTunes folder--no matter where the iTunes Music folder is located. It is possible to keep the iTunes Library file in an alternative location; see below.
From what I can gather, in trying to relocate your music files, you also moved the iTunes Library file. This is not a big deal. In response, iTunes replaced it with a fresh iTunes Library file (but this would be empty).
Hold down the Option key when you open iTunes to have iTunes present you with the opportunity to navigate to and select your old library file that you relocated. Alternatively, find the old library file and copy (don't delete anything till you've got everything working again) it back to the default location at home/Music/iTunes.

  • Can I save music files from websites if I upgrade to Quicktime Pro?

I often use guitar and banjo tutoring websites to listen to samples of music for learning purposes. A lot of these songs and tunes are not available to buy either from iTunes or on CD as they are only put there by the website owners as examples to listen to as a learning tool, and they open in Quicktime. I would like to be able to save these files and either put them on my iPod or a cd to listen to again later as this helps me to learn them. I am not wishing to steal music or get something for nothing and would happily pay the artist if they were available to buy, but as they are not, is there a way of saving them to my computer. Would Quicktime Pro enable me to do this.

If the Web page uses QuickTime to play the file the Pro upgrade allows you to save as "Source" or "QuickTime Movie".
Open the page and let it load completely. At the right end of the QuickTime controller is a downward pointing arrow and a click on it brings up a menu with those options.
Not all files use the controller and the author can decide to hide it with special page code. Other files may be save "disabled".
Post a URL to a page and I'll see if the Pro upgrade can be used.

  • How can tell the script I want to save unsaved files but not replace the old one?

    Hi everyone
    I got this script

Can some one tell me how can I do that?

    Hi,
Change the 4th line like below:
            docs[i].save(new File("~/Desktop/Doc" + (i+1) + ".indd"));

  • How can I safely transfer my 125GB of itunes music files to free up space, but still keep itunes on my MBP, and access the music with the cloud and match?

I have already backed up all the itunes files on two different external drives. And I have already set up icloud and itunes match. I am still paranoid about deleting the files from my MBP, but I need to free the space. What steps should I take to delete the files. And can I still keep itunes (w/o all the music files) on my laptop and access the music from the cloud? I know I can run them with the external drive plugged in, but looking for a way to do it w/o pluggin in.

I have tried that as well.  The purchased songs are not in my playlists and they are still there.  I manually deleted them on the phone but the sync puts them right back on there.
I only sync playlists and they aren't on there.
