Can iMovie works with Canon HF20 digital video camcorder?

Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone out there have this digital video camcorder (Canon HF20) because I'm looking into buying one. I would like to know if this camcorder is user friendly with Macbook (2.2 ghz). Thanks.

I am not an expert but I believe it does. I have the same camcorder and MacBook Pro. The laptop recognizes the camera and it is a straight forward import from camera to iMovie.

  • How to import to iMovie '08 from Canon HV20 HD Video Camcorder

Pretty simple problem statement: I've got a Canon HV20, a USB cable, and a new iMac with Leopard and iMovie '08. I plug in the camera, and iMovie does not seem to recognize it -- the only camera it wants to import from is the built-in iSight.
    Help? And thanks a bunch.

You need a Firewire cable for video. The USB is only good for the still camera mode; to transfer still images from a card, if you have one.

  • Where has it all gone? Canon MV6i(mc) Digital Video Camcorder (PAL)

    Hi all,
I have a Canon MV6i Digital Video Camcorder, that uses MiniDV, and not too long ago changed from a PowerBook to a MacBook Pro. My new Mac does not seem to want to recognise the Camera, I have attempted using both USB and FireWire, and have also recently upgraded iLife, hoping that it will make a difference.
Unfortunately it still seems that the MacBook Pro does NOT recognise the Camcorder. Am I doing something wrong? Am I missing something?
How can I get it to work? I have also thought of getting a new Camcorder, but then why, when this one should work, or not?
How can I make it work?
Help me someone PLS, as I do have a LOT of "sentimental Video" that I want to use.
    Thank you,
    DC

  • Can I open imovie and record canon hf20 file

I just bought the canon hf20 digital camera and I want to make movies of me talking/logging with it. I want to use it the same way my isight webcam works. I want to open imovie and record, just as i would with my webcam, but with the digital camera. I have googled and researched for days and can't figure it out

The HF20 produces .MTS file format, belongs to (AVCHD) high-definition files. iMoive supports well video files in .MOV, .MP4, DV, so try to change the HF20 video to one of those formats, and import into iMoive for editing. you may want to give a shot with this:

  • How can I work with big iMovie 6 file?

I am trying to make a one 70 minute movie with iMovie 6 but am having great difficulties because the file has reached 78 gig and is now unworkable because it is just too slow to even play. Even cutting it in half does not solve the problem. Each half will play but I can't work with them in the timeline. I need to add more audio files and music. Any suggestions?

I suspect most slowdowns occur because of complex audio, not the size of the project. It sometimes helps to export the audio to an AIFF file, then re-import that file back into the project and place it in its own audio track. When you disable the audio of the other tracks, playback is improved.
That makes it harder to edit a half-finished project, however. It's a technique best reserved for almost-finished projects.
You could export the timeline to the camera, then re-import it to a new project. That will both make the project smaller and "flatten" its audio and video. Most clips will return as the clips they are now.
70 minutes of video is ordinarily about 15GB, so something has increased the size substantially. (That's not normally a problem you have to worry about; the size of the project itself is probably not the problem.)

  • Will iMovies work with Motion 5?

I am getting more and more into film, abandoned buildings are getting crazier the more I go through them. I want to share my videos on YouTube but I would like to have an introduction on the videos, will iMovies work with Motion 5?

    Hi Appleman756,
I'm not sure how integrated you want them to be, but you can export your Motion project to use as the intro for your iMovie.
Motion 5: Share to iMovie, GarageBand, and other Apple applications
Share a Motion project to iMovie
Choose Share > Export Movie (or press Command-E).
Choose an export format from the Export pop-up menu.
This menu provides a list of codecs.
Choose None from the “Open with” pop-up menu.
Choose an option from the Include pop-up menu.
If you’ve set In and Out points in the Timeline, use the Duration pop-up menu to choose whether to export the entire sequence or the portion between the In and Out points.
    Click Next.
Enter a name and location for the exported file, then click Save.
Motion renders and saves your movie, which can now be imported into an iMovie project using the File menu. For more information, see iMovie Help.

  • What version of Elements will work with Canon Print Studio Pro

What version of Elements will work with Canon Print Studio Pro?

I tried this step but it did not work. I have a Mac YosemiteOS 10.10.1. I copied to plug in files from Canon Print Studio Pro. Open canon utilities, open print studio pro, open CS4 folder and copied files CNPSPP101.plugin and CNPSPP102.plugin (not there is also a folder called CS5 but it has the fame plugin files)
I copy these files and then go to Photoshop Elements 13 and paste these files in Support File folder in Plug - ins and also did in folder Optional Plug-ins.
I then open Photoshop Elements 13 and hit Automation tools but Canon Pro Studio option is not there.
Can you provide more details on where I might be going wrong.
I put in a trial version of Elements 12 and have no problem. I just can't find where to purchase Elements 12 so I do not lose it in 30 days. Know where I can  purchase?

  • Is imovie compatible with canon vixia M50?

Is imovie compatible with canon vixia M50?  I have the latest version OSX 10.8.2

I cannot find it on this list:
    http://help.apple.com/imovie/cameras/en/index.html
That does not mean it will not work, but if you haven't purchased the camcorder yet then I recommend limiting your search to those known to be compatible. Better yet, limit your search to manufacturers that specifically indicate iMovie compatibility.
Panasonic does; I am not certain about Canon.

  • Thwarted attempt to work with many hours of video

I'd like to draw clips from about 25 twenty-minute videos to create a single movie that's about 30 minutes long. Premiere Elements crashes when I try to put all of these videos into a single project. To deal with this, I had the idea of combining and drastically cutting about five videos, then saving them as a single .avi file, and then opening a new project that uses that .avi file and five additional videos from the original set. I would again make drastic cuts and save a second .avi file with all of the material combined. I thought by repeating this process several times--adding three to five files each time--I would eventually incorporate everything and avoid the crashing.
I took the first five videos, cut tons of stuff out of them, and then saved them as an .avi file. I started a new project and imported this .avi file and a new set of  original videos. Premiere did not crash, so I thought this was going to work pretty well. However, when I went to save the second project as an .avi file, I was told that I was out of hard drive space--even on my external hard drive. I started investigating and, to my surprise, I found that my first .avi file was four times larger than the combined size of the original video clips! It was eating up tons of space and apparently the new .avi file wanted even more.
So, my brilliant idea is not going to work. Are .avi files always this big even though they are much shorter than the original .vob files? Why? Can I save the final projects in some other format that is more efficient with space and can be imported into later projects? Is there another, better solution to my original problem--too many long video clips for a single project?
Also while investigating the hard-drive space problem, I came across tons of rendered files. Many of them appear to be linked to the same project. Reading online, I learned that I should delete those through PRE and not through Windows. It also appears like it's an all or nothing proposition. I can't just delete the old versions?
In general, how does one do hard drive space efficiently in PRE?
    Thanks for any help.

It sounds like your book will be helpful about how to best use space, Steve. I've ordered it. In the meantime, here are the answers to your questions. What is the best way for me to work with lots of long video files at once? Should I even be trying to reduce the original videos into smaller pieces?
    Steve asks:
What kind of camcorder is your original video coming from and how did you get it into your computer?
They were old Hi-8 tapes. I burned them onto DVDs, which created .vob files.
What settings did you select when you started your Premiere Elements project(s)?
I did not change the original settings. How should I set them?
When you started each project, did you save it in a separate sub-folder on your external drive, as I recommend in my book?
No. I move projects to the external hard drive as I complete them (after saving as movies to DVDs). I do this because I work on
a laptop and do not consistently have access to my external hard drive. From your question, I’m guessing this is not a good
approach. (Your book has been ordered).
Is your original video from a DVD? VOB files from a DVD are generally about 1/5 the size of DV-AVIs. I would also not recommend using them as your source video files if you can avoid it.
Yes. No good way of getting around this as the original format, given the age of the source material and my limited access to
       conversion equipment.
Is your external drive formatted NTFS or FAT32 (as they come from the factory)? FAT32 drives have a file size limation that can often choke video editing work.
Just checked and it is FAT32. Bummer. I assume reformatting it now would erase everything on it?
    Bill asks:
Can you tell us about your system's entire I/O, i.e. all of your HDD's, and how you have them allocated?
I use an HP laptop running Windows XP. The processor is P8600 @2.40 GHz. I have 3 GB of RAM (weird, I know). My internal
hard drive is 150 GB, NTFS formatted. I have one external hard drive. It is 600 GB, FAT32 formatted. I’m not certain of the
connection format, but I would guess it is USB2 since it is plugged into a USB port with the cord it came with.
    Thanks again!

  • Sharepoint list dataheet view error "Cannot connect to the server at this time. You can continue working with this list, but some data may not be available"

I have a List which is having around 14000 items in it.while opening that list in datasheet view it is giving error .
Below is a summary of the issue:
After selecting datasheet view beow error occurs:
"Cannot connect to the server at this time.  You can continue working with this list, but some data may not be available."
        "Unable to retrieve all data."
The item counts displays say 100 out of 14000 items.
Exporting List to excel is giving only 2000 records out of 14000 records.
    Other Observations   -
This is happening to only one list on the site .There are other lists in the site whose no. of records is equal to 8000 to 9000.They are working absolutely fine without any error.
Also, If I am saving this list as a template and creating another list with it ,then it is working absolutely fine with 14000 records,so the issue does not seem to be related with no. of records as the template list is working fine.
I have checked the Alternate access mapping setting ,its fine.
It should not be related to lookup, datefield or any other column as the list created from it template is working fine with all these columns.
I checked below links also ,but doesn't seem to work in my case.

I have spent two days to resolve this issue. Microsoft has released two KBs with reference to this issue...but are not appearing in search results at the top.
    I am sharing my finding.
    1. First install the
KB2552989 (Hopefully you might have already installed it. The KB detetcts it and informs the user.)
    2. Then update registry by adding new key for data fetch timeout as mentioned inKB2553007
These two steps resolved the issue in our environment. Hope it might help others as well.

  • How to get Camera RAW / Photoshop CS5 to work with Canon 100D?

How to get Camera RAW / Photoshop CS5 to work with Canon 100D? I don't want to by this product again and again...

In what way is ACR not working in Bridge?  Is there no right-click Open in Camera Raw available from Bridge, or there is, but the ACR version is less than ACR 6.7.1 or what exactly is the issue?
Also, if you open Photoshop and do Help / About Plug-ins / Camera Raw, is ACR missing from the list, or if not, what version does it say is installed?
You might also want to describe what methods you have tried to correct the issue, since saying you've tried what you've seen posted and they didn't work, isn't really much to go on.
