Can Indesign CS3 be run legally on two machines

I have Photoshop CS3 and Indesign CS3. Photoshop can be installed on 2 machines (Desktop and laptop for traveling).
It does not appear that I can do the same with Indesign (or am I doing something wrong).
Thanks in advance,
Bob

FLexNet Licensing service should be started. You might have to change to manual from automatic. There is also an Adobe LM service which may need to be active during activation. I don't think it would hurt anything to start it if it isn't already.
You'll probably also see something with a label that starts ##Id_String followed by a bunch of random characters. That needs to be started, too.
Open Task manager and check the processes tab. You should see FNPLicensingService.exe in the list.
Bonjour is an Apple ad hoc networking tool that Adobe uses for licensing and registration purposes, at least that's my understanding. If your firewall is blocking Bonjour you won't be able to activate.

  • Can Indesign CC 2014 run on a Intel Celeron Processor?

Can Indesign CC 2014 run on a Intel Celeron Processor?

To expand upon Bob Levine's response, there is nothing in the Adobe installers that tests the CPU in terms of model, speed, and capabilities. That having been said, Intel Celeron processors have historically been stripped down, low power, low speed cousins to the mainstream Intel processor lines. It may possibly not support 64-bit operation in which case you would be restricted to the 32-bit flavor of InDesign and its address space limitations.
A Celeron processor might also be indicative of a system that isn't particularly well-endowed in terms of other resources including memory, disk, video, etc. and depending upon your configuration as well as the complexity of the documents you wish to create and/or edit, you might find performance lacking at best.
    Proceed with caution.

  • Adobe InDesign CS3 not running?

i get a crash report as soon as i try to run Adobe InDesign CS3 any help on it? i as something that they are working on it? how soon can i see this happening is there any thing I can do to fix it? i need this for school by monday to get this big project done. pleas help.

I see you posted two topics with the same problem. Not smart. But here is my answer from the other topic in this one as well. I hope it helps you out.
InDesign CS3 worked fine for me, for a week. Now it crashes on launch too. On rare occasions where it doesn't crash on launch it will crash opening any file.
Adobe recommends people do a clean install of Leopard instead of an upgrade to prevent this. This is what I read on their website. I did a clean install, and yet InDesign crashes. So no luck with that tip. I managed to get it working this morning.
    * I deleted all application font caches using (free) FontExplorer (Linotype)
    * I deleted all applications with the official installer (it has that option)
    * I switched off as many fonts as possible to eliminate corrupt font issues
    * I re-installed InDesign, ran Adobe Updater and rebooted my system
    After that. It ran.
No explanation for why it started crashing before. Maybe this works for you. It wil take some time though so make yourself some coffee or something :-S
    Adobe should look into this.
    About fonts not working:
Leopard is very strict with fonts I noticed. Some of my (legally purchased and non corrupt) fonts that worked in Tiger no longer work or work incorrectly in Leopard (noticably when using old style figures in fonts that have no regular figures).
    Not good.

  • Can InDesign CS3 open Corel Draw files?

    Hi,
We have Corel Draw files that need to be converted to InDesign CS3. Can you advise if InDesign can open them?
    Thank you
    Barb

No. Indesign can Place EPS or PDF files saved from CorelDraw.
Illustrator can open CorelDraw files. You could then copy and paste from
Illustrator, although if it were me I think I would want to keep my
    drawings in Illustrator, not Indesign.

  • How to run application on two machine?

    hi
how can i run coherence test program on two machine,
and what configuration need on two machine, so that i can see the sharing of cache.
    thanks
    praven jain

Here are some "getting started" links that may help:
    http://wiki.tangosol.com/display/COH33UG/Installing+Oracle+Coherence
    http://wiki.tangosol.com/display/COH33UG/Creating+and+Using+Coherence+Caches
    http://www.javalobby.org/java/forums/t78008.html
Coherence includes a default configuration out-of-the-box that will connect any machines using that same configuration (e.g. if you launch the cache client or server scripts in the /bin folder they will detect each other automatically via multicast).

  • Why does Safari run quickly on two machines but not the third?

    Hi all,
I have a curious and frustrating problem. There are three Macs in one room (G5 PPC, iMac G5 Intel, MacBook Intel). The two intel macs are connected to the internet via Airport, the PPC via ethernet. Until a few weeks ago all three Macs ran Safari at the speed of light. Now the PPC has slowed to snail's pace or worse.
I have read loads of posts, I have cleared caches, reset safari, thrown preferences and bookmarks away, you name it, I think I did it. Been onto the ISP, reset the router. I even did a system reinstall.
This is amazingly frustrating as I can load a page on the other two Macs in less than 2 seconds, while timing the PPC, the same page takes over a minute.
I have had some hardware issues, but they were resolved by an erase and install about a month ago. So now I am wondering if this is indicating that I still have an underlying hardware issue?
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

I rather doubt it is a hardware issue, much more likely to be software issue or a connection issue.
    Do you use open DNS?
(First, if yours is an Intel Mac, check that Safari is not running in Rosetta, which is enough to slow it to a crawl.)
Adding DNS codes to your Network Settings, should gives good results in terms of speed-up:
Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu. Click on TCP/IP and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' enter the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(An explanation of why that is both safe and a good idea can be read here: http://www.labnol.org/internet/tools/opendsn-what-is-opendns-why-required-2/2587 /
Open DNS also provides an anti-phishing feature: http://www.opendns.com/solutions/homenetwork/anti-phishing/ )
Wikipedia also has an interesting article about Open DNS:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenDNS
Whilst in System Preferences/Network you should also turn off 'IPv6' in your preference pane, as otherwise you may not get the full speed benefit (the DNS resolver will default to making SRV queries). If you want to know what IPv6 is:
This is Apple's guidance on iPv6:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8708.html
Click on Apply Now and close the window.
    Restart Safari, and repair permissions.

  • Can i buy once to use on two machines

i have an imac and a macbook pro that i'm trying to get up to date. question is will i have to purchase  lion two times? I don't see a bundle available.

You can re-download Lion as often as you wish.  Just use the same Apple ID for the store login that bought it first.

  • If I buy a CS6 perpetual license, can I put the full suite on two laptops?

I'm buying it with my student discount, and as it's still extremely expensive we were told it would come with 2 codes for 2 separate macs
However the summary suggests that it might be more along the lines of one mac can have Photoshop and another can have InDesign
We're both graphic designers so we would both be wanting the full suite!
I can't find anywhere that states categorically either way, and I don't want to spend £329 only to discover I only have one code...

It is not so much what kind of machines you have, it is just a matter of how you use them.  Adobe allows for two machines to be activated as an aid to users.  There are all kinds of scenarios where having the software installed on two machines is helpful.  Some people have desktops at work/school but need to travel and have to bring their work with them so a laptop comes in handy... similarly, some folks have to take work home with them.  I cannot answer as to what happens if you have the siftware running on the two machines simultaneously... but I can say that it violates the license agreement to do so.

  • Indesign CS3 Crashes Randomly on Windows x64, Dual Monitor Setup

My coworker and I just had our computers upgraded Windows XP 64-bt on the following computer setup:
    Intel Core i7 920 2.66Ghz CPU
    8GB DDR3 RAM
    Gigabyte GA-EX58 Intel X58 Motherboard
    1TB Seagate ES.2 7200rpm 32MB Cache SATAII Hard  Drive
We're running CS3. Indesign keeps crashing on her machine, randomly from what we can tell. It runs fine on my machine.
We are running Indesign in compatibility mode for Windows XP on both machings (the crashing was much worse before we turned it on).
The only difference between my computer and the workstation where Indesign CS3 crashes is she has a dual monitor setup.
Any thoughts on what might be causing it?

Thanks for the heads up.We're actually kinda banking on Windows 7 to be a bit more stable and switch to that, but it's a long few months when your program crashes every few minutes.
I just realized that we don't have the latest update (5.0.4) on her machine, we've downloaded it and are hoping that will help to at least reduce the crashing...

  • InDesign CS3 replaces unavailable Fonts

    Hi,
we have InDesign CS3 server running. The server renders Preflight PDF. If a layout uses a font that the InDesign Server doesn't know, the InDesign server replaces the unknon font with one he knows.
Is there a way to tell the InDesign CS3 server which font to for replacing an unknown font?
    Thanx for ur kind help.

I am having this same problem with the Windings font and CS3, the bullet (opt-8) does not show properly. The Bullet in Windings looks like a "Target" instead all I get is a rectangle box that is highlighted pink (highlighted pink like when a font is missing..)
The file looks fine in CS2 but doesn't when opened in CS3 on the same computer with the same fonts loaded at the same time (i.e. document is open in CS2 & CS3 side by side).
I can get the character to display properly if I use it as a Bullet (Type-Bulleted & Numbered List.)
The character doesn't display in the window but if you manually ad it as a character then it will display in the document properly where used as a Bullet but still will not display properly if used in just straight typing.
I also removed as many fonts from my system as posable, Windings was the only font activated in Extensis Suitcase Fusion v. 12.1.6. Turning Suitcase off made no difference either...
I did notice that Adobe InDesign CS3 loads fonts from this location when it starts (Library-Application Support-Adobe-fonts), if these fonts are not managed what keeps them from having a font ID conflict with another font? I did remove as many of these fonts as posable and it still made no difference with this problem though.
I had a problem like this with another font but I can't remember now what one. Thought it was a bad font at the time, although the file worked fine in CS2.

  • Printing problems with InDesign CS3 running on OS 10.6

I recently upgrade my old G4 Mac (OS 10.4) to a new Mac Mini running OS 10.6.6. I am still running CS3 and have encountered only one problem. When I print multiple copies documents from InDesign that contain several layers, each copy is processed separately, so that it can take several minutes just to send the print job to the printer if I'm printing over 20 copies. Then once the print job is processed the printer pauses between every copy, which is tripling the printing time. If I print a simpler document with only one or two layers it processes all the copies at once, as it should. I am printing on an Okidata 6150 color laser printer.
I never had this problem on my old computer. I'm wondering if this is one of the "unsupported" bugs of running CS3 on Snow Leopard. I want to make sure that this is a problem unique to running CS3 with Snow Leopard before I go ahead and upgrade to CS4 or CS5.
computer: Mac Mini core 2 duo 2.4 ghz processors, 4 gb RAM, printer: Okidata 6150 DN color laser printer.

    Hi again Peter
It is version 5.0.4.  I updated it when I newly installed it a week ago in my new computer, and then again updated it just yesterday.
I might mention that before I got my new computer, I was running Mac OS 4.11, and was using InDesign 3.0.  I had bought InDesign CS3 about a year ago, but hadn't gotten around to using it since version 3.0 had been working fine, and I was used to it.  Then, when I got my new computer, I decided it was time to use the newer version.  However, while using InDesign 3.0 with the old Mac OS 4.11, a printing problem popped up there, too, a few months ago... and it also involved printing problems with Adobe Reader.  I contacted Adobe, and they sent me a patch which fixed it.  I will contact Adobe again if need be, although I thought I'd start here first to see if it was a common enough problem that someone might be able to provide a free and routine answer.

I neglected to ask what version of indesign CS3 you are using. I also
notice that Mac OSX 10.6.4 has just been released. It actually
addresses some CS3-specific issues, though they seem to be related to
launching the apps, not printing. It may be worth trying to update,
    nonetheless.

  • How can I restore proper PDF exports from InDesign CS3 or CS5 in Snow Leopard?

I had no problems exporting PDFs from InDesign CS3 (on a Mac Pro running 10.6.4 Snow Leopard) until this past weekend, when all the fonts appeared bitmapped or thin and raggedy, and the images lost some color depth and contrast. When I copied the InDesign document to my MacBook Pro laptop, also running 10.6.4, the PDF emerged with its original quality. Calls to Adobe support referred me to documents concerning incompatibilities between InDesign and Snow Leopard. One of these documents was several pages long, but I could not print it from the Adobe website to my HP All-In-One Officejet, because one-third of the document was hidden under a white panel. This makes the document impractical for troubleshooting, because I don't have enough screen real estate (even on a 23-inch display) to keep the document open along with all the pages and dialogue boxes needed for reference. Back to phone and chat support, I was advised to upgrade my Creative Suite Premium CS3 to CS5 ($800!!!) and purchase the latest Acrobat Pro upgrade ($200), with no guarantee that this $1,000 cost would actually solve the problem. I did download the trial version of InDesign CS5, and it did NOT solve the problem. I'm also concerned that the problem did not exist until last weekend. Prior to that, my CS3 and Snow Leopard combination worked just fine. I then checked the forums and was dismayed at the variety of problems associated with PDF files, for which there seems to be no general fix. Meanwhile, I have hundreds of ads I'm supposed to be preparing and emailing as PDF proofs to businesses around the country. I have two books of 120 and 256 pages that need to be submitted to printers in PDF format with all kinds of fonts and image files belonging to my clients. The last time I submitted a book to a printer via email, the job went perfectly. This time, and next, it's obvious I won't be able to send PDFs at all! If that's the case, my 27-year-old directory business will be unable to absorb the expenses necessary to start all over with new computers and software, and I will be out of business. Period. So-- does anyone have a way to fix this? I would surely be grateful.
    David Henderson

I'm on a local network, built on Apple's Airport Extreme. but I'm the only computer user on it. I use it for transferring files between the desktop computer (Apple Mac Pro) and laptop (Apple MacBook Pro) and, occasionally, to print from the laptop to a Xerox Phaser printer.
About a year ago, I added an Apple Airport Express to the network, allowing me to play iTunes music from the laptop through a Panasonic BluRay player connected to a home theatre sound system. No problems of this nature appeared with that installation.
About four months ago, we connected a DirecTV satellite receiver system to the D-Link router that carries wired network service from the desktop computer to the Xerox printer. The satellite TV system includes a series of modems that allows DVR recordings to be accessed and played from any of the TVs in the house. (As you would now perceive, I run my publishing business from my home). However, this set-up has been functioning for about four months, and I did not encounter the PDF problem until last weekend.
    Now -- about the fonts.
Because of the many ads that I publish from various sponsors, it is possible that different versions of the same fonts have invaded my system. In the "missing font" alerts I get, InDesign frequently is seeking TT or T1 versions, which I replace with Adobe fonts when possible. Adobe Creative Suite Design Premium included a fairly large collection, which it keeps in one folder.  The Apple OS also includes a bunch in a separate font management folder; and there are carry-over fonts that came with the business when I acquired it 10 years ago. Some of those fonts may go back 25 years to the book's inception. However, in the past several years, I have generally rebuilt all the ads that appear in my publications, substituting newer versions of fonts. Hence, the preflight program has been able to locate and include all the necessary fonts in the packages that go to the printers.
Once again, I have been able to export good PDF files for all the varieties of ads and books included in my system, until last weekend. One of the documents is built entirely with Helvetica Narrow, for which I have only one version.. Another document consists mainly of Times, and there are 3 or 4 versions of that font in the system; but the version contained in the document has not changed from when it exported properly.
So... I guess the complexities involved in the network and/or fonts could be part of the problem, as you suggest, but golly -- I hope not. The last thing I want to do is disrupt and rebuild the network or font collections. The font situation especially would set back production for months if not years, because so many individual ads and off-site clients would be involved in the process.
I'm sorry if I provided more details than you expected. I didn't mean to take so much of your time.
    Thank you.

  • How to run Indesign CS3 as a Service with Port number

    Hello all,
I would like to run the InDesign CS3 Server as a service on Windows. It seems that after installing the Server it automatically installs as a service. But where can I assign the port number. If under Services properties of InDesign Server under Parameters I mention -port 1050 on Ok button it removes the parameter information.
I am doing right or is there some other way to start the Server as Service with Port number.
    Thank you all in advance.
    Regards
    Farzana.

    Hi Sascha,
have you tried to remove the service and install it manually?
    \"Path to IDS"\InDesignServerService /install /u
    \"Path to IDS"\InDesignServerService /install
I guess you've tried to start the instance in the console already (successfully?).

    Hi Ingo,
I've installed the Snap-In and configured one instance. Maybe it's worth mentioning that there are some instances running at the same time, which have been started using the console. Hope that's not interfering. However, the MMC-configured instance uses a different port.
I tried to start the service with a huge range of users having all imaginable privileges. The common way of using either "LocalService" or the Local System Account (which has admin rights for me) doesn't do the job.
    cheers,

  • Running InDesign CS3 Script like a service

    Hi,
Do anybody know if is there any option to run an InDesign CS3 Script as a service or daemon? I would like to execute some actions depending on some others and I need to have an script running all the time and checking for certain states.
    Thanks
    Aleix

    Hi,
Can you give me information for both cases? The truth is that I need to monitor something related with an InDesign plug-in and maybe one or both methods could help me.
    Thanks

  • Can't read PageMaker 6.5 files with InDesign CS3

I have a lot of old PageMaker 6.5 files that need to be upgraded to InDesign.
When I try to open them in InDesign CS3, I get an error that says:
Cannot open the file "XYZ". Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be open in another application.
I get this error on a Mac Pro G5 (PowerPC), running OS X 10.5.8.
What's interesting is that when I try to open the same files on other computers on the network, it works just fine.  The other machines are all Intel Macs, running OS X 10.6.8 or greater.  The files are on a Mac Server.
Can this problem be fixed on the Mac G5, maybe by installing a plugin, or is there no hope?
    Thanks!

Interesting thought, but I suspect the file is actually a training manual and that's the real name of the file, with no extension at all. Pagemaker 6.5 files would have had a .p65 extension, I believe.
