Note that the iPad 4 works fine under iOS 8.1.1.

I am new to this community even though I have been a Apple user for years, so please forgive me if this question is not in the right section.
Has anyone encountered drastic shorter battery life both on iphone 5 and ipad since updating to iOS 6.1.2? I've always been happy with these two products until the update - now the battery life is considerably shorter which is extremely frustrating.
How can this problem be solved? Is there any way to go back to the previous version?
Thanks for your help.If you update using iTunes the phone is first wiped clean, then the new OS is installed, and finally the backup is restored. After this finishes if you sync your music should be restored. Music is not in the backup, because it is already on your computer and duplicating it would use up a lot of hard disk space.
An OTA update just patches what has changed; it does not disturb content. -
i have the 1st iPad. Can it be updated to iOS 6.0.1? If not how to fix-when on the internet sometimes it will just stop and go to the apps screen.

Close All Open Apps... Sign Out of your Account... Perform a Reset... Try again...
Reset ( No Data will be Lost )

My iPad 1 can only be updated to iOS 5 yet most apps run on iOS 7. Why can't I make the update on my iPad 1? Is this so I buy another iPad 2+? Now why would I want to buy something that will be obsolete in a few years? I really want to purchase an Live TV plan yet I need iOS 7 to run most TV apps.

gIt's not obsolete as much as the first gen simply lacks the power to run the newer operating systems. IT doesn't have enough RAM. If someone managed to hack it to get iOS 6 or 7 on there they'd just have a slow, boggy and unresponsive device. (think putting windows 7 on an old laptop.
Unfortunately software moves faster than hardware. Every thing goes obsolete. I've had my ipad 2 for two and a half years now and I know it only has so much longer left to it too. Just the 'joys' of advancing technology. -

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

Can IPad be updated without WiFi or ITunes?
I do not understand. If one has a 3/4G cellular IPad as a "stand alone unit" how can it be updated with IOS updates? No WiFi. No computer with ITunes. It is crazy that this IPad cannot be updated. Is there a way? Bob
Its has nothing to do with Apple. Cell companies put a limit on downloads. IOS updates can be very large. The downoload limit for a single package through cellular is 100MB. Anything above that and you cannot download it.
Also its a good idea to use a stable Wifi connection rather than 3G which can disconnect without warning causing other issues.
And its not like its that difficult to come by a Wifi connection or borrow a computer to update. -

Is there any way I can cancel the update to ios 8? My iphone is in the stage of having to connect to iTunes to finish the update. I don't have iTunes on a computer so I could never back my phone up which I didn't know you had to. Help!
If your phone is in recovery mode (You see the iTunes graphic on the phone), you MUST connect the device to a computer and restore the operating system. There is no supported way to get around it. The device had a problem installing the update and it crashed. Sorry.

You said it is an iPhone 3G... but the iPhone 3GS is listed in your signature. This is an important difference... can you please clarify which model you have?
iPhone 3G can only be updated to iOS 4.2.1.
iPhone 3GS can go to the latest iOS 5.1.
If you check your current version under Settings > General > About > Software Version, and your current OS is higher than 4.2.1, then you have a 3GS. If you have 4.2.1 and iTunes says it's the latest version, you have a 3G.
