Can ipad quicktime use close captioning via smil?

On a desktop browser web page, I'm loading an smil file that contains closed captioning in Quicktime.  Works great:  video plays along with the closed captioning.
However, when I load the same page on an iPad, I get a crossed out play button, telling me it cannot play.
Does the iPad Quicktime player support smil?  I've seen the closed captioning option on the iPad through Settings - > Video - > Closed Captioning.
I want to leverge the Quicktime player via the QT object in HTML.  That way if a user is browsing the site on an iPad, they get the QT player instead.
Any thoughts or techincal limitations?

  • Why can't I use a micro via

I think I'm being dense!  I have a two layer board, and want to use a "micro-via", but the PCB properties/Copper Layers tab doesn't seem to allow this.
Why?  I want a rectangular spiral inductor on the board, and need a very small via in the centre to get to the back of the board without clashing with the track.
The inductor track is 3 mil, spacing 2 mil, area in the centre to place a via is about 8 mils by 8 mils.
How small will board vendors normally go for via hole and pad sizes?

    Hi David,
Micro vias are used in conjunction with build-up layers and are generally blind or burried vias; they connect one or two (maximum) build-up layers to the copper top or bottom.  If you are unable to select this option in the PCB Properties, it is likely that you do not have any build-up layers on the top/bottom of board.  Here are some general steps to follow to place micro vias:
    1. Under Options > PCB Properties, check the Micro Vias box found under the Vias Support group (note: you must have build-up layers on the top or bottom of your board.  You can change the number of single layer build-ups on the left)
    2. In the Allowed Vias box, select the layers between which you would like to allow micro vias
(If you would like to allow micro vias between more than one layer (maximum of two), you can change the settings in the Pads/Vias tab under Maximum Layer Span.  Make sure to click Apply before you return to the PCB Properties tab)
    3. After you have finished selecting the allowable layers, click OK and return to your design
    4. Place a via (Place > Via)
    5. In the dialog that pops up, select the layers between which you would like the via placed.  If you select a combination of layers that was enabled in the PCB Properties, Ultiboard will automatically know that you would like to place a micro via and will configure the hole size and annular ring based on this.  Now if you double-click on the via that was just placed, the heading of the properties dialog should say Micro Via Properties, which will show you that it you have configured it properly.
If you need a via that goes all the way through the board, I do not believe this fits the actual definition of a micro via.   You should really contact your board manufacturer to find out how small they are willing to go, but based on the IPC-2222 Sectional Design Standards for Rigid Organic Printed Boards, the minimum drilled hole sizes for plated-through hole vias should be at least 0.2 mm, but obviously larger as the thicknesse of the board increases.  And then you also have to take into account the annular ring of the via.

  • In premiere pro creative cloud, can I export using closed captioning in HD and SD formatting?

Is it possible to export in HD and SD formatting using closed captioning? Reason for this question is, I'm about to create 48 half hour videos. 24 of them have to be in HD format and 24 of the others have to be in SD format using mp2 for airing on television. Will this work in closed captioning?

  • Can ipad mini use os x server?

I recently purchased an iPad mini. I already have a MB Pro for personal use and MB for work. If I buy os x server, can I use the server across all 3 devices? I know the App Store says it's iPad compatible, but just wondering if there's a difference for mini since it is slightly different.
    Thanks!

    To confirm: no.
Your iPad Mini cannot run OS X server.
iPhone and iPad devices run iOS software, and do not run OS X nor OS X Server software.
OS X and OS X Server cannot load on nor boot on ARM processors, such as those processors used in all available iOS devices.
Your iOS device can access remote services such as web pages and documents.  These documents can be served via Apache web services, and the Apache web server is a component of OS X and OS X Server.

  • Can iPad 3 use MS word?

I'd like to buy an iPad for my daughter to use in college and before purchasing it I was wondering if it has the ability to use MS word or something similar to do homework etc.

    Hi Nidia25
Demo added good points like about adobe flash (still can't think of others right now) that I forgot to mention and I agree with him on the Air which I recommended to someone in this forum as an alternative to an ipad given the college situation. (Note - it has no cd/dvd/ rom drive.)
Regarding pc vs. Macbook Air - Here's the thing - we were always a pc family. Our first was a desktop that my sons and I used. It lasted about nine years without problems, though I had to upgrade and add other peripherals a few times. Eventually, it wasn't strong enough to keep being supported (though it still works!)
When my sons were old enough, I got a new desktop and laptops for both of my sons. I got all hp and had them filled with the best, thinking they would last for many years. However, they're guys, very into sports (playing and keeping up with the pros) and they hit links and there were viruses that would knock out their hard drives. I had to replace them many times ($65.00 - $80.00 each,) each time taking eight hours for each to re-install windows, etc. Then there were the charger bricks. I had to replace them, too, at least four times ($80.00 each.) I had to learn how to re-seat hard drives, use thermal silver compound, etc.
Then, at the end of 2009, my older son got the very well known Internet Security 2010 Virus. Our home was networked, and my younger son was getting out the last of his college applications. For security, I didn't dare try to fix it until all applications were done. When they went back to school after Christmas vacation, my older son had to do his college papers on the working laptop. After trying everything to get rid of the virus (as I'd successfully done too many times before) I gave up. Then in June of 2010, we got automatic Microsoft security updates which took out our two working computers. Microsoft was great, giving us everything we needed to get going again. However, I needed a number - a number - to get on the internet again, and HP, while they could have done it, refused to because my computer was more than two years old! I did all I could to try to get it going again. So I have here a $2,000.00 desktop that is useless.
Meanwhile, our younger son was starting college. After a lot of looking all Summer, he decided on an imac (cheaper than his old laptop.) He loved and still loves it. He kept trying to convince me to get one. I then bought my older son a macbook pro. And he still loves his. We then bought an imac, feeling quite guilty because I stll wanted to salvage my hp desktop. I couldn't, so I bought an imac, too. And guess what? I love it!
Apologies for having used the long way to this, but in case you're worried about changing to Apple products, it took a lot for us to go Mac. I was always worried about becoming one of those people who 'drank the Apple kool-aid.' I have to say, though, that we all love our  macs and we have no interest in buying a pc ever again! And they were cheaper than anything we'd owned before! And so far, no viruses!
We also got my husband an ipad this Summer. He only uses computers at the office, but thought he'd like a reader. He loves it. So my son bought one to use at school. He loves it. The one and only thing is, if he's working on a paper, he has to do it in his dorm room on his imac. He's in a dorm apt., and only one tv is allowed in the apt. So he can't watch tv and work at the same time. (?!) He's thinking of also buying a macbook or air with his money.
Just an fyi - when we got my husband an ipad, I waited until the new ipad came out, read issues on this support forum, and decided to go with a 32 gb. But they weren't available anywhere. So for the first time, we bought refurb through the apple on-line store - an ipad2 64 gb for $499.00. When my son played with his dad's for a bit, he decided to buy one, too. They had sold out in the refurb store, and didn't come back for six weeks! But he got it! Make sure, though, that if you buy refurb, make sure it's still supported in 'upgrades.' They point this out clearly under the title of each product.
So if you go Air or macbook pro you might want to consider the refurb store. If you buy new, you'll most likely qualify for the $100.00 student discount. My son's home for the long weekend. He sais he couldn't wait to get the new iphone. I told him the Galaxy III was getting great reviews, too. He laughed and said, "Sorry, Mom, I drank the kool-aid." Then we both laughed a bit. And guess which phone our older son wants!
    Hope this helps!

  • Can Ipad  be used for Questionore survey ?

    Hi
I would like to buy a ipad for my reserach purpose. I want to use the ipad for field data collection (questionore survey ) tagged with the GPS location of each survey. Is Ipad is designed for this purpose.
    Thanks and Regards
    R.Nagarajan

The iPad can most definitely be used for field data collection. There are several form apps on the app store that will allow you to create a questionnaire survey including my favorite FormConnect. I prefer it over some of the other ones in that I can easily create the questionnaire with the text boxes, drop down lists and checkboxes the way I want them to display on the iPad.

  • Can iPad be used without a Mac/PC -- forever stand alone?

My impression is that you cannot use an iPad straight out of the box without first connecting it to iTunes on a Mac or PC, right?
Then without being tethered to iTunes occasionally the OS cannot be updated and it also cannot be backed up.
You also cannot upload/download files using iPad's Safari browser because you can't navigate to an up/download area, right? And Google docs on an iPad is poorly implemented -- they're using the mobile version that the iPhone is forced to use. Some docs can be viewed and few, if any, can be edited.
+To me the iPad isn't a stand alone tablet computer but a more of a removable media player on steroids. Am I missing big something here?+

That is correct. An iPad must be activated by connecting it to a computer with iTunes before the iPad can be used. You may be able to get this accomplished in the Apple Store or dealer from whom you purchase the iPad, but it must be done.
This has been discussed in many threads here. The general consensus is, I believe, that an iPad really cannot be expected to function effectively without a computer to which to attach the iPad, if only occasionally. I think that the iPad is more than just a "removable media player on steroids" but should not be considered a standalone device. It's really a new category of device, one that's just emerging into the marketplace.
If you browse the forum, you should find threads with more extensive discussions.
    Regards.

  • What can be monitored using Alert rule via Runtime workbench? Help!

    Hi Experts,
In the alert configuration in XI runtime workbench, there is something called Alert Rule. Under Alert Rule there are options where we can give sender/receiver interfaces, channel, etc.
What exactly we can monitor using this option?
If my receiver is another SAP R/3 system then using this can I send alert when the SAP R/3 is down?
Similary if my sender is also SAP R/3 then can I monitor if this system is down?
What more can we monitor with this?
    Kindly help!
    Thanks
    Gopal

    Hi,
Alert rule is not at all used for monitoring directly. it can act as a filter for your alert category. so first you must have created an alert category.
you can specify the sender/receiver party, service, interface and namespace in a alert rule after choosing a alert category.
you can also specify where you are expecting an error like integration engine or adapter engine
if you define an alert category with an alert rule, no restrictions then you will get all alerts for all sort of errors from all of your interfaces.
so by specifying an alert rule you are restricting an alert category that you created to a particular sender service or namespce etc..
to get step by step idea of how to create alerts see the below blogs

  • Can iPad be used as a sketch pad for the imac

If you mean to be the equivalent of a bamboo tablet, not really... I suppose you could use a remote control app on the iPad (such as Splashtop Remote Desktop) to control the iMac, open up an art program on the iMac, and use the iPad to draw on the computer.
