Can iphone be found with no sim card ?

i lost my phone tonight.i think the theif took the sim card out. can it still be tracked if there is no sim card

Not that they CANNOT turn off Find my iPhone without knowing your Apple ID password. And they cannot restore the phone as New without knowing your Apple ID and its password. So you at least have the satisfaction that the thief will get no benefit from the phone, unless they sell it to an unsuspecting dupe.

    apple is not a carrier so does not sell simcards or give them away
    if you change carrier you change sim card
    if you change phone and keep the carrier you move the sim card to the new phone

    Most likely the phone had been hacked to unlock it. When you upgraded the new OS undid the hack.

    when you sign up for a tariff you get a free sim card from the carrier

    There is nothing you can do, unless you can prove that you are the owner of the phone. Who was it reported to. The police? The carrier? They are the ones you have to deal with.     If you bought the T-Mobile phone at an Apple retail store at full price, you should be good to go. If you bought the phone from a T-Mobile store, it would be locked.

    When did you buy it?
    Apple did not begin selling an unlocked version of the iPhone 4S in the US until 11/11/11. I believe it went on sale only through the online store at that time. I'm not sure if it's available at retail yet.
    What you purchased was a phone without a contract commitment. It is still locked to AT&T. AT&T will NOT unlock iPhones for any reason.  Return it and get your money back, then use that to purchase an unlocked phone.

    Verizon iPhones are GSM unlocked by default, so get a SIM and try it.
