I am trying to connect to my ATV2 via the remote app on my iPad2 iOS 5.1.1 and a 3Gs with 5.1.1 and I can not get it to see my ATV2 at all. I have rebooted it and rebooted both the phone and iPad multiple times and it still won't connect. Funny thing is, I have a Galaxy S 3 and can use the AppleTVMedia app from the Play store and can connect to my ATV2 just fine!! Figured out my Apple TV issue. It had to do with how I had it networked. I guess it doesn't like Ethernet over Power line anymore. When I have WiFi on the remote app works fine on my iOS devices. But when I plug in the Ethernet cable it doesn't see it on the remote app. I know its not my Ethernet over power line adapter because other things attached to it work just fine.
Gonna try and do a firmware update to see if that will help.

Getting remote Server.App to connect to a OS X Server in a DMZ

I am new to Mac Server administration and have a question.
My new company has a Mac Mini running Mac OS X 10.8.3. It is in the DMZ. I want to access it using server.app on my MacBook Pro. I downloaded server.app but I cannot connect to the server. I don't see the server in my finder's sidebar. I am sure this is because it is in the DMZ, but I am not a networking guy. How can I allow my computer to access the server? I do have an administrator account on the server.

Find out the IP address of the server you want to connect to. You're looking for a numeric address: something like 123.56.67.89. You can find this out by running Server.app on the server and looking at the details of that server itself.
When you start up Server.app on another computer choose the option to administer another computer, not the one Server.app is running on.
When it asks for an address, type in the numeric address as shown above.

I am working on a project, where I am supposed to make a wireless connection from iOS (iPhone, iPad) to an external device, for sending and receiving some data. I would like to later publish this app on the App Store. At first I wanted to do the connection by bluetooth, but considering Apple's bluetooth MFi policy I had to reconsider this solution.
My next idea is to use wi-fi. The iOS device would connect to the external device through a socket, probably using something like NSStream or CFStream. The external device would be configured as a wi-fi access point, with some kind of a server that stores data sent from the iOS app. The stored data would then be used by the external device to generate a signal for some mechanical actuators. The server would provide the app with data about the actuators.
So my big question is, is this OK by the apple policy? Because if this is possible then I'll sign up for the developer program.

Hello! First thing to check is the LaCie website to see if there's a firmware upgrade for the drive. Second is the drive formatted and HFS+ or did you use it straight out of the box. If that's the case it may be formatted FAT32 which could be the problem. Tom

There are literally hundreds of posts both here and on other Apple Discussion boards that warn/advise against using a Cisco/Linksys/Belkin/Buffalo/whatever product in the network chain (wired or wireless) with Apple products.
I am not attempting to say whether these concerns/difficulties are valid or due to a lack of experience. I am just asking, and appreciative of the response that "YES" an Airport Extreme connected via a CAT 5 cable to an old Linksys switch will work.
As someone who has suffered/struggled for years with network problems I understand the pain.
And for those of you old enough to remember --

Yosemite - Unable to access desktop when Remote Desktop app is connected to an RDP session

Since updating to Yosemite, after connecting full screen to any server you cannot get back to desktop as it seems the RDP session takes over the primary desktop and scrolling further left on the trackpad takes you to the Yosemite dashboard and you cannot
get to the desktop.
This happens since the beta and is still an issue using the released version. When will this be fixed??

The Library window in my Illustrator and Photoshop says, "Unable to connect to server." But, from the Creative Cloud pull down in system menu bar everything (Fonts, Apps, Assets) work perfectly. So that has no trouble connecting. How can I get my apps to connect.

Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Then reset: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until you see the apple, then let go.(No data loss) Try it again.

Sorry, not sure what you mean by remotely?
You can remove apps from your phone without being connected to anything if you have the phone in hand. Were you speaking about something else?
If not, then you just press on an app on the Home screen and hold it down until they all begin to wiggle. Apps that you can remove (non-Apple apps) have a little "x" in the top left-hand corner. Tap on that, and the app will be removed.

IOS Remote Desktop app and computers connected to SBS 2008--can't get it to work

I can connect directly to the server without a remote resource in the IOS app.
But I'd like to be able to connect to computers in the office like we can through RWW. RWW works fine, but not from my phone. (Yes I can connect to the server and take over computers from the phone but I don't want other people in the office to log
into the server first!).
I can never get the remote resources section in the app to connect. I usually get "Unable to locate any remote resources for the URL". error in the resources section. I've tried a simple "https://remote.domain.com", "https://remote.domain.com:987",
etc.
We have a self-signed certificate. I can't think of anything in the server setup that is anything other than normal.
I can do direct connect using "Remote Desktop Connection" in windows 7. In the remote desktop server settings I just put remote.domain.com and "Ask for password (NTLM)" for the login method. Then on the general tab I have just the
simple computer name and the domain\username. That's all I had to setup to get that to work.
Any suggestions?

Have you setup RD Gateway server in your environment? Are you trying to access the RWW through it?
On server side you can choose “Bypass RD Gateway server for local addresses” under RemoteApp manager and check the result.

Remote app on iphone with Itunes library / Erratic connection problems.

I have been using Remote app on my Iphone to manage Itunes for months with 100% pleasure and 0 trouble.
For a few days, it has some erratic behaviour like having difficulties to connect to my Itunes library.
In such case if I touch the Change Library button on Iphone remote screen, it connects quite instantly...
I have a simple wifi network generated by my adsl box and a single computer.
The remote setting option "stay connected" on Iphone is On.
Generally when I get connected if I quit remote on Iphone and restart it within a minut it will find the library in a jiffy most of times ... but sometimes not.
I disabled firewall : no change.
I scratched all remotes in Itunes and paired the Iphone again : no change.
Does anyone with some idea ?

Almost the same issue here. And this only started yesterday.
Initially iTunes would not pair at all, but I went into add/remove programs (Win 7 PC) and ran a repair on Bonjour, Apple Mobile Devices, and iTunes. I did not remove or reinstall any of these applications.
After this my iPhone remote app would be found by iTunes, the passcode accepted, plus the library showed up. I thought I'd cracked it...
But after a few minutes - usually when the screensaver kicks in on my PC - my iPhone loses connection to my library and WILL NOT reconnect unless I restart iTunes.
I have to say that over the years the remote App is without doubt THE most buggy, inconsistent and erratic piece of software I have ever used. If there was a decent alternative I'd have ditched it a long time ago.
Looking forward to a solution from one of the experts here (not expecting Apple themselves to even respond!).

That is why I said to restore via iTunes, did you check the link?
This will put it back to factory settings and you can set it up with the new ID once you reconnect with your HDTV. This is not done via ethernet, as per the link you need to connect to the computer via micro usb. You cannot bypass home sharing.
FYI: An Apple ID cannot be deleted so the old one would still exist (even if you no longer use the email account it is associated with).

My iPhone 3S will not allow me to upgrade. I can't download any apps and when I connected my iPhone to iTunes and tried to upgrade it, it said it was already updated. On top of that, WiFi does not work with my iPhone. What do I do to fix this?

My dad got this iPhone for me a few months ago as a gift since I had a really awful phone before. The only thing is, I can't seem to upgrade it to the latest software without it telling me it's already updated to iOS 4 or something like that. (I would be able to give you the exact iOS version, but ever since connecting my iPhone to iTunes, my phone isn't responding so I can't check the settings or anything.) I can't download any apps (I get an error message saying the software on my phone is too old) and so I pretty much am extremely limited to what I can do on this phone. I'm very frustrated at this point and incredibly displeased with Apple's products.
If someone could please explain to me why this is happening and what I can do to fix it, I'd be extremely grateful.

What iPhone do you have? You can check in settings>>general>> about.
If you have a 3G you cannot update beyond iOS 4.2.1. The 3G is over 4 years old an was discontinued over 2 1/2 years ago. You need the latest ios to run the latest versions of some apps. If you have a 3GS you can update.
If your phone is not responding, reset it by pressing and holding down both the home button ad lock/ sleep button simultaneously until the Apple logo appears.
