Can iPhone still be identified after remote wipe?

Got my iPhone stolen. The person turned it off right away. So far it has been offline. I have been sending messages and locking commends through iCloud.com, but have not chosen the remote wipe option yet.
Is it possible for a stolen iPhone be identified after restore? An iPhone has a series number, I assume iTunes would be able to identify this number somehow. Can anything be done on this front?

Thanks for replying. The following posting by Kappy seems to be very comprehensive information posting on lost/stolen iPhones. I have tried to make sure all my Apple products are properly registered. That's step one. We will see how things go.

  • HT201365 Can iPhone still be found if app has been removed from phone ?

Can iPhone still be found if app is deleted?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Having the app installed isn't relevant, you need to enable Find My Phone in the iCloud settings to be able to track the device, if it isn't enabled it can't be tracked and it can only be turned on from the device itself.

  • Iphone 4s stolen. Selected remote wipe via Icloud. Received email hours later saying it was happening. Here's the problem: according to Verizon, the phone is still using data. How is this possible? Wouldn't the user have to register the device with Apple?

So, if a remote wipe occurred as the email stated, how did the person with the phone immediately go back to using the data on the phone.  Wouldn't the person have to register the Iphone through Itunes?  I got the email saying the erase was happening at 11:10.  Looking at my cellular data usage, the phone began using data about that time after about a 12 hour break. So it seems like Find my Iphone quickly picked up the phone.  But then the phone continued using data for about 3 more hours.  How could the person be using the phone if it had just been wiped?

I understand that iCloud's erase function is totally distinct from Verizon's cellular service (i.e. the phone could be wiped and Verizon would never know).  It's been a while since I've activated an Iphone through Itunes, but when you activate the phone don't you have to register it?  If the iPhone was wiped at 11:10, how could it be using data at 11:15 and consistently for the next three hours.  How long does the Itunes registration process take?

  • Password policy, gone after remote wipe or firmware upgrade?

I am investigating if the iPhone is a serious option for our customers. I learned a lot the past days, but I still have one important questions.
I have an iPhone with a password policy
    Situation 1:
I perform a remote wipe, the latest firmware installs itself after the activation and I don't put back a backup.
    Situation 2:
I update the firmware of my iPhone with a 'restore' and don't put back a backup.
    Question:
For both situations: Is my password policy still on the iphone?

I assume you intend to set the password policy via a configuration profile. The policy will remain in place until the device is wiped. After that it is basically a fresh phone, and neither any data nor any profiles will remain on the phone.
Your goal is probably that any sensitive information is only stored on a phone with a password policy enabled. For this you would essentially have to put all that information on a VPN, and provide the key / certificate to access that network with the profile, so that a user would not be able to gain access to the information without the profile.

  • Lumia 925 went from amber to 8.0 after remote wipe...

    Hi all,
I have had my lumia 925 for 1 day and it was running amber. I tested out the remote wipe function from windowsphone.com but it installed OS 8.0 on the device. And now the device also wont upgrade to amber. WHen I search for update it also takes some time to come back and say no update availble.
    Have tried ressetingAny help appreciated

Some system apps got updated a few times after the amber update and their latest versions is not included in your phone ROM, so when you do a hard/factory reset, you lose those updates too. The store app will notify you about those updates, but not sooner than a few days. So it's better to update those manually.
As mentioned by paulheu, that's not a "pre-amber" state, amber is already installed but you do not have required app updates. To update those system apps, please follow the link that paulheu gave.
After a reset, as mentioned by WildSabre, you can visit Windows Phone Purchase History page to see and reinstall the apps that you have before the reset.
Also, you can use Lumia System Updater  app to see which system apps requires an update.
    The silence will fall

  • Can I still receive responses after June 22?

I have existing surveys that will still be collecting data after AdobeForms reduces functionality in late June. Can I still receive responses until the final retirement date?

It is now common knowledge that iWeb, and iDVD, has been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. However, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
It now appears that the iLife suite of applications offered on disc is now a discontinued product and the remaining supported iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on. However, the iLife 11 boxed version that is still available at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD. Those two apps were listed in small, gray text on the iLife 11 box that I bought.
Personally, if I didn't already have a copy I would purchase one to have it for reinstallation purposes if ever needed.

  • Lost Apple iPhone - a security procedure to remotely 'wipe' the device?

    Hello,
I have a brand new iPhone and would like to know what I would have to do if I ever lost permanent possession of it. Is there a procedure such as logging into the .me (.mac) account and selecting my personal passworded and double protected member's top secret area (lol), that I could report my device missing and would then be able to 'wipe' the iPhone clean of all contents before another user could gain access and control it AND possibly me via all my other macs.
Basically, can someone gain control of all my macs if I were to lose my iPhone? Is this possible, and if so, please could you let me know where to find it on the Apple website so I can be prepared to follow the procedure and take control of the lost iPhone from anywhere, wiping it clean of all content and disabling the device forever (this device will explode in 10 seconds... hey don't joke, that may happen one day!), can I gain access remotely to my iPhone and disable it... from my macs or someone else's mac/iphone/blackberry et al, even if someone else DOES gain control of it. Is there a backdoor that I could gain access to while someone else is using my iPhone and shut it down there and then. How quickly could this be done? Securely.
    Many thanks,
    GC

Remote wipe is available from the exchange server for iPhones deployed in the enterprise environment.
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/Enterprise_DeploymentGuide.pdf - page 7
However, it you have the 2.1 iPhone upgrade and put a passcode lock on the phone, you can have the option to wipe data after ten failed passcode attempts.

  • Can I still sync manually after Mobile Me ends?

I've been reading discussions for 2 hours and am still confused.  I just need to know if, after Mobile Me ends, and if I do not have Lion and iCloud, will I still, always be able to sync Contacts, Notes, Bookmarks and Calendars manually with iTunes?
    I have:       --  Gen1 and Gen2 iPod Touch
-- MacBook Pro w/ Snow Leopard but can't go any higher
-- iMac which is upgradeable to Lion but I'm not sure I want to, and an
                       --  iPhone 4S.
I know the phone could use iCloud but I have not moved to it because I don't know that I could ever sync Contacts, Notes, and Calendars on my other devices again.
I have been told I will always be able to sync apps with iTunes, but don't the services go through Mobile Me?
    Thank for any info.

    Yes.

  • Selling 3GS wondered if iOS4 will still be installed after reset/wipe

I have just installed iOS4 on my 3GS (absolutely love the iOS4).
I will be selling my 3GS on to a friend shortly and getting the iPhone 4, and prior to this will be resetting/wiping the 3GS (bascially putting it back to the condition it was when it left the factory)
When I reset/wipe etc my 3GS when I sell it, and my friend then reactivates the 3GS on his computer/iTunes. After the activation, would iOS4 be still installed on the 3GS, or would it be back to the software version that was on it when it left the factory.
    Thanks in advance

Thanks for the help, its much appreciated.
I was hoping it would remain on after the reset wipe.

  • Can iPhone be used as a remote mouse track pad?

I know the iPhone can be used as a remote control for Apple TV etc but I wondered if it could also be customised into a remote trackpad. I am about to buy a Mac Mini to use as a media server as I have lots of media that won't fit nicely into Front Row. As a result, I'll have to use a mouse and keyboard, which would be a pain. If the iPhone could be configured into a remote trackpad, that'd solve many a problem.

  • Still freezing up after security wipe ?

    Greetings all,
Despite performing a security wipe I am still experiencing constant freezing of my phone, especially with the calendar.  I suspect it may be an application that is causing the issue.  During backup and restore I didn't delete any applications.
Any suggestions ?  Thanks in advance.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
If indeed you suspect an app, then you can try removing them one by one until the behavior clears. But, be aware that if the app caused OS level corruption, then removing the app won't cure that corruption...only a clean OS reload would do so...and that's the process I recommend you follow.
At the top of each device forum, there should be some "sticky" threads that discuss the OS levels available for many models. If they include your model, then please use those as reference as you proceed. Otherwise, you will have to dig through the official download portal for OS packages for your model:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
From a PC, you can install any compatible (e.g., for your exact BB Model Number) OS package to a BB via this procedure:
    http://supportforums.blackberry.com/t5/BlackBerry-Device-Software/How-To-Reload-Your-Operating-Syste...
Note that while written for "reload" and the Storm, it can be used to upgrade, downgrade, or reload any BB device model -- it all depends on the OS package you download and install to your PC. If that OS package is from a carrier other than the carrier for which your BB was originally manufactured, then delete, on your PC, all copies of VENDOR.XML...there will be at least one, and perhaps 2, and they will be located in or similarly to (it changes based on your Windows version) these folders:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader
    C:\Users\(your Windows UserName)\AppData\Roaming\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\Loader XML
Be sure that you remove, from your PC, any other BB device OS packages as having more than one installed to the PC can cause conflicts with this procedure.
You may also want to investigate the use of BBSAK (bbsak.org) to perform the wipe it is capable of.
You may also want to try this procedure to perhaps narrow down the precise causal item:
Load your OS "bare bones"...if anything is optional, do not install it.
If the behavior presents immediately, then try a different OS with step 1
If the behavior does not immediately present, then run for as long as it takes for you to be sure that the behavior will not present.
Add one thing -- no matter how tempting, just one.
If the behavior does not present immediately, then again run for long enough to be sure it will not have the same problem
Repeat steps 4 and 5 until all things are loaded or the behavior presents
When the behavior presents, you know the culprit...the last thing you loaded.
If the behavior does not re-present, then you know that either step 1 or 2 cured it.
If the behavior presents no matter what, then you likely have a hardware level issue for which no amount of OS or software can cure.
If you are on MAC, you are limited to only your carriers sanctioned OS packages...but can still use any levels that they currently sanction. See this procedure:

  • Disk locked after remote wipe

    Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro 13 in with cd I got 2 years ago. I remote locked it and wiped it.
However, after I put in my code and attempted to reinstall mountain lion over Internet. It tells me that the hd and the recover disks are locked.
I can't seem to go further.   What can I do do unlock the disk(s) so I can install mountain lion over Internet.
    I don't have the CDs
    Thanks.

If you bought it 2 years ago then it came with OS X Snow Leopard Pre-Installed and it also came with System Reinstall Discs. You'll need to find them or order a new set from Apple. Although your model has the ability it use the Online Internet Recovery system it will never work using that as it did not come with Lion Pre-Installed and that system is basically only for Mac's that came with either Lion or Mt Lion Pre-Installed. All other system need the original System Reinstall Discs.
Or you could take it to an Apple store and see what they can do for you.

  • Satellite C50-B-12V- can mic still work even after I plugged in headphones?

    Hello,
My Satellite C50-B-12V comes with only one port for headphones, and microphone. thus, if I'm on a Skype call and want to hear clearer - so I plug in headphones, then the other party stops being able to hear me - presumably because my plugging in headphones disabled my microphone - thus I can now hear better - but my voice isn't going through the computer anymore.
I understand I can correct this problem by buying an audio y cable - which will make my 1 port for headphone/microphone into two ports - thus I can then plug in headphones and also a microphone - and the problem should be solved.
My question is, is there anyway I can set my computer to somehow not deactivate my microphone when I plug in headphones? Meaning - I would plug in headphones so that I can hear the other party better - but the computer external microphone would still be working?

    Hi again
I have tested it on my machine a bit using Skype audio settings.
Here is how it works on my Satellite S50-B
When I use right headset (mic and headphones in one port) everything works as usual. Internal mic is OFF and I can speak through mic on headphones.
If I use my standard Logitech headset and connect headphones only, internal mic works anyway. So my voice is recorded through internal notebooks mic but I can hear sound on the headset.
There is no option where I can switch between internal or external microphone.
Can you please test it with your headset?
Which headset do you use exactly?
