Can iphoto be confgured not to import movies from the camera?

Hello, Does anyone knows if iphoto 8 can be configure not to try to import the movies stored on the camera? It cause the import process to be very difficult trying to select only the photos to be imported and leave the movies to be imported by imovie. I will like iphoto only to import photos and imovie to import movies.

No there is no way to specifically tell iPhoto not to import movies.
However, if you sue a camera that mounts on the desktop (or, in the case of a Canon camera, use a USB Card Reader) you can direct iPhoto to import from the Photos folder on the Card using the File -> Import Command

If you are having the same problem, i.e. a disk permission problem, open your favorite search engine and search on, "change disk permissions", and I think you'll find plenty of information on how to fix the problem. This is a Lightroom forum. Your problem is with your operating system. There is no sense in rewriting instructions that are already available if you do a simple search.

  • Why I cannot import movies from my camera to iMovie?

I have an iMac with Mac OS X 10.7.5 and I'm trying to download some movies from my Canon PowerShot SX210IS. To download movies I am using iMovie 09 Version 8.06.
When I click on the "Open Camera Import Window" it only shows one alternative as shown below.
It shows "Built-in iSight" and there is no other alternative to select my camera ...
How can I make iMovie to show my camera in the down arrow so I can select it and download my movies?
Your advise and recommendation will be appreciated very much.

    Hello AppleMan1958:
Thanks a lot for your answer, but this is exactly what I am doing and what it does is showing my own picture from the camcorder in my computer. I don't have any alternatives to directly import my movies from my camera.
I have received answer from Klondike Kid and gave me the possible cause of my problems. iMovie does not recognize digital still cameras as "movie" cameras. I will have to use an external USB card reader in order to import directly from iMovie.
Again, thanks a lot for your answer.

  • How do I get iPhoto to import & store from the camera roll?

Under iOS 6, it was possible to import photos from camera roll to iPhoto, where they were stored, even if they were deleted from the camera roll.
Now, iPhoto has access to the entire camera roll, and I don't see a way to import into iPhoto.
My goal is to have a copy of the photo in iPhoto, but at the same time, delete it from camera roll.
Is this possible under iOS 7?

    My iPhoto is v. 4.0.3.
Is your QuickTime up to date?
Video importing requires QuickTime 7.6.2 or later.

  • Can not successfully import movie from camera

It's a short little movie on our still camera (model: Panasonic DMC-FZ8), that we can actually watch w/ in the camera. It's an important clip for us and we really want it and saved off the camera.
However, I can not import it in iPhoto on my G5 or my wife's intel iMac? Image shows to import in iPhoto but that's about it. It just hangs on "preparing to import" and I have to force quit iPhoto. Help!
    Thanks

Image Capture controls which application, if any, to launch when a camera is connected to the computer. Launch Image Capture and then connect the camera to the Mac. You can then manually upload the movie file to the desktop and try importing from there.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • I have a new Nikon S6300 camera and can import photos from the camera to iPhoto without loading camera software program. However, I can't get the photos to go into an event or into the photos part of iPhoto like they have done with my Canon camera.

Is there are problem between Nikon and iPhoto program as I can get photos to go beyond the "last import" stage.

If you have imported the photos then they are in an Event or Photos because every photo is in these places.
Select a pic in Last Import and Right-Click on it. Choose 'Show Event' from the menu. This will bring you to the Event containing the photo.
If the photo is in Last Import, then the photo is in the Library somewhere,  just not where you expect it to be. Usual causes: the date on your camera is wrong, and so the date on the photo is wrong, or the sorting of the Events has changed (View Menu -> Sort Events)

  • Firewire port does not always work to import movies from video camera

I've been having issues with my Mac Pro lately, it is an 06 model. Opening up iMovie and starting the import process for video from my Canon camera, the software will not recognize that the camera is connected.
In system profile I do see that the camera is connected via the fire-wire port and shows the correct name, etc.
After a bit of troubleshooting, restarting software, I unplugged the fire-wire connector that is part of the dongle coming from the 23" cinema display and the camera appeared like it should.
System profile indicated that the fire-wire connection from the 23" display was unknown. I do know that I can plug other items into the display and they work fine.
Rebooting the Mac Pro did not have any effect either.
Granted, it is working, but I wish I did not have to unplug the cinema display port each time I want to do this.

The firewire port on the Display does not have enough internal power requirements to support some devices. Try the firewire port on the back of the Mac Pro. If you are using a firewire repeater then don't connect it to the Display firewire port, use the Mac pro.

  • Import movie from DV camera

I want to import movies I made years ago on a DV camera. I edited them and then sent the footage back to the camera, as in those days it was the best way of keeping the full size video.
I tried to import them this morning but what iMovie has done is separate all the scenes into the days on which they were taken, so they're not in the order of the finished movies anymore.
In fact there is more than one movie I've imported, so the footage is a bit all over the place.
How can I view them in the original order that the video played it in?
    Thanks

... or if you don't have iMovie HD, try "Vidi" - it's old (and free), but it saved me a ton of hassle when iMovie broke up footage on an old, worn tape into dozens of odd sized clips...

  • IPhoto won't let me import photos from my camera

I've been uploading my pictures from my camera to iPhoto for a while now and suddenly it's telling me that it can't import the photos because they're unreadable files but they're all jpegs! What do I do???

Will Image capture (in your applications foldr) see them and bring to disk? If so then once they are safely off the memory card and on disk use the camera's format command to reformat the memory card
and can you impoprted to iPhtoo from disk? Will preview open the photos on disk?

  • Know how to resolve when the ipad will not download a movie from the ITunes Store?

How to Remove “Other” Data from iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch
    http://www.igeeksblog.com/how-to-remove-other-data-from-iphone/
With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5/6/7, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

  • Can't import movies from photobooth into imovie

In iMovie 11 (v9.0.4), our network users are unable to import movies from the isight camera. (File, Import from Camera).  As soon as you click on "capture", then use the default event name, you get an error:
"You may not have permissions to write to /Network/Servers/rbserver.lan/SERVER_USERDATA/iMovie Events.localized."
I've tried creating this directory on the local machine, per this suggestion:  http://lists.apple.com/archives/macos-x-server/2010/Apr/msg00305.html but to no avail...
Do you know how to fix this problem?

I can't help you with your server question, but here is how I move and import video clips from Photo Booth into iMovie over my LAN:
    (1) Use the Photo Booth > File > Export menu command
to create the actual clip I will move.
    (2) Quit Photo Booth.
    (3) File transfer the exported Photo Booth clip to the Mac that will do the iMovie work.
    (4) Use the iMovie > File > Import > Movies... menu command
to import the clip into iMovie.
    (5) Clean up (throw away) unneeded clips on both Macs.

  • Since downloading Iphoto 11, we now cannot import photos from our Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ-15 camera. Any ideas out there as to why this is occuring. I can still import them onto my laptop which is running Iphoto9

Since downloading Iphoto 11 onto our desktop computer we now cannot import the photos from our Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ15 into Iphoto. However I can import them from the camera onto my Macbook which is still running Iphoto 9.
When I connect the camera and IPhoto loads, the spinning wheel just keeps on spinning and nothing happens, I have to Force Quit Iphoto to get out of the program. Totally frustrated, it would seem that it is an Iphoto 11 software problem.  Any suggestions out there?

    Terence,
not sure what happens here right now, I didn't mean to be offensive. So please let's stay calm. There are some issues with Panasonics described in these threads, and they do sound similar to the issue I'm facing (somewhat hard to say, as a) these people do not use exactly the same camera as I do and b) the descriptions of their problems are not very detailed). I would retract the term "a LOT of issues". Sorry.
Back in September I described my issue here
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3308591?start=0&tstart=0
but then the discussion there stopped. Since we were still able to import images manually into iPhoto (and took care of leaving out already imported pictures ourselves), we could live with this as a workaround.
Since everything worked well recently on my machine with the latest iPhoto version, I decided to upgrade iPhoto on my wife's Mac (where the import problems occured) from '09 to latest '11 (9.2.1). However, after that iPhoto still could not import from the Panasonic's SD card (rotating ball when inserting the card reader, and rotating ball after starting up iPhoto afterwards even w/o card reader plugged in, until the next reboot). So I re-built iPhoto's database (32000 images - 12 hours). Didn't help either. It worked however with a Casio Z-1000's SD card. Thus I re-formatted the Panasonic card yesterday and it seems to work since then.
My point is that I consider it weird that a SD card works with one Mac and doesn't work with another, although both use the same version of OS X and iPhoto. And, I'm somewhat doubtfull that re-formatting the card will  solve this issue permanently. I believe that I tried to re-format the card already back in September, when I dealt with the issue for the first time, but I have no prove of that.
I will keep an eye on it and will report here if the problem comes up again.
    Thank you for your help.
    Best wishes,
    Thomas.

  • Importing Movies from Canon SD1000?

I Can't import a movie taken on the Canon SD1000.
Canon says this feature is not supported for Mac OSX.
Is there any way to work around this?
I tried iViewMedia Pro but that didn't work either.
    Please help.

I've been able to import movies from the SD1000 using Image Capture just fine. I just couldn't play them using Quicktime. (Quicktime says it needs some software and takes you to Apple's site but doesn't tell you what software you need! Duh...) Anyway Perian (mentioned above) did the trick!

  • Computer will not always import photos from kodak easy share?

My macbook pro does not always import photos from the kodak easysgare camera, any suggestions?

I found a solution in a couple of other threads. The main problem is when you start iPhoto from the dock, the unix process is owned by root, and not as it should be, by you. If you start iPhoto from the Terminal by entering /Applications/iPhoto.app/Contents/MacOS/iPhoto, iPhoto is able to import the images.
I don't believe that starting the applications from Terminal is a good solution, so I looked for another - reinstalling Leopard seems to be the best option, and it actually works. I can now import images to iPhoto again.
