Can isight be used during a keynote presentation?

can i use my isight on my macbook during a presentation? or anything remotely close to this idea?

What is it that you want to do? Do you want to play live video directly in a Keynote presentation (as in have it on a slide)? Or would using Expose to flip to an iSight window be sufficient?
Since you can insert Quartz Compositions into Keynote, and since Quartz Compositions can theoretically include live video, you might be able to go that route, although I don't know if there are any limitations of QCs in Keynote that would prevent this.

I need to be able to project something on the bottom of the screen DURING a Keynote presentation. Is that possible? At our church we have a numbering system for parents/kids and occassionaly we need to project the number so the parent can go check on their child. I would appreciate it if someone could advise me as to the optimum resolution, dimensions and dpi for actual photographic slides that I am scanning for use in a Keynote Presentation, that will be projected in a large auditorium. I realize that most projectors in auditoriums that I will be using have 1024 x 1200 pixels, and possibly 1600 x 1200. There is no reference to this issue in the Keynote Tutorial supplied by Apple, and I have never found a definitive answer to this issue online (although there may be one).
Here’s my question: When scanning my photographic slides, what setting, from 72 dpi to 300 dpi, would result in the best image quality and use up the most efficient amount of space?
Here’s what two different photo slide scanning service suppliers have told me:
Supplier No. 1 tells me that they can scan slides to a size of 1544 x 1024 pixels, at 72 dpi, which will be 763 KB, and they refer to this as low resolution (a JPEG). However, I noticed when I looked at these scanned slides, the size of the slides varied, with a maximum of 1.8 MB. This supplier says that the dpi doesn’t matter when it comes to the quality of the final digital image, that it is the dimensions that matter.  They say that if they scanned a slide to a higher resolution (2048 x 3072), they would still scan it at 72 dpi.
Supplier No. 2: They tell me that in order to have a high quality image made from a photographic slide (starting with a 35 mm slide, in all cases), I need to have a “1280 pixel dimension slide, a JPEG, at 300 dpi, that is 8 MB per image.” However, this supplier also offers, on its list of services, a “Standard Resolution JPEG (4MB file/image – 3088 x 2048), as well as a “High Resolution JPEG (8 MB file/image – 3088x2048).
I will be presenting my Keynotes with my MacBook Pro, and will not have a chance to try out the presentations in advance, since the lecture location is far from my home, so that is not an option.
I do not want to use up more memory than necessary on my laptop.  I also want to have the best quality image.
One more question: When scanning images myself, on my own scanner, for my Keynote presentations, would I be better off scanning them as JPEGs or TIFFs? I have been told that a TIFF is better because it is less compressed.
Any enlightenment on this subject would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

When it comes to Keynote, I try and start with a presentation that's 1680 x 1050 preset or something in that range.  Most projectors that you'll get at a conference won't project much higher than that and if they run at a lower resolution, it's better to have the device downsize your Keynote.  Anything is better than having the projector try and upsize your presentation... you work hard to make it look good, and it's mangled by some tired Epson projector.
As far as slides go, scan them in at 150 dpi or better, and make them at least the dimensions of your presentation.  Keynote is really only wanting 72dpi, but I do them at 150, just in case I need to print out the presentation as a handout later, and having the pix at 150 dpi gives me a little help with their quality on a printer.
You'd probably have to drop in the 150 versions again if you output the Keynote to .pdf or Word or something, but at least you have the option.
And Gary's right (above) go ahead and scan them as TIFFs.  Sooner or later you'll want to do something else with these slides (like make something for an iPad or the like) and having them as TIFFs keeps your presentation looking good.
Finally, and this is a big one, get to the location for your presentation ahead of time if you can, and plug the laptop in and see what you get.  There's always connection problems. Don't let the AV bonehead tell you everything will work just fine ('... I don't have any adapters for a Mac...') .  See it for yourself... you're the one that's standing up there.  Unless it's your boss, then you better be really sure it works.

You don't. You scan the document with another app (eg, Image Capture), save it in a compatible format (eg, TIFF, JPEG, etc), then import the resulting image in your presentation in the usual manner, ie,
    Use Media Browser…
Choose Insert > Choose, select the file, and then click Insert.
Drag a file from the Finder.
Drag a file from another application.

I thought it was because of Lion but with snow leopard i have the same problem (On another Mac).
    Other solutions????

To check the local network for some of the common configuration problems, launch Terminal.app and issue the following diagnostic command:
    sudo changeip -checkhostname
That'll report some local configuration information and then either no errors detected and no changes required, or it'll point to whatever configuration errors or issues it might detect.  That doesn't catch everything, but it catches the common errors.
FWIW, 192.168.0.0/24 and 192.168.1.0/24 are poor choices for the local network, as VPNs are based on IP routing and IP routing gets tangled when the same subnet is used on both ends of the VPN. 192.168.0.0/24 and 192.168.1.0/24 are near ubiquitous in home networks and coffee shops.

  • Can I embed web page in Keynote presentation?

I am working on a Keynote presentation, I am a novice, but this is for a very important presentation. Whatever way possible, I need to show current, active webpages in my presentation.
Can a webpage be embedded in Keynote?
If absolutely not, can i take a webshot of a page and use that as an image?
As well, if I need a live, active page, what is my next option?
    Please help.
    Dan of Troy

You can't show current, active webpages in your presentation. The next best thing would be to shift to Safari in the middle of your presentation and make sure it's already loaded the page you'll want.
You CAN, however, take a screenshot of a page (Paparazzi can convert a webpage into an image) and use that as a normal image.

  • Can isight be used as microphone when using Skype

Or can I use the internal mike?

    Hello Rudi,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    You can use
    b any
Mic that is compatible with Skype.
If you are not certain that your iSight is working properly, you can check it using the hints in the How To Ensure Your iSight Is Functional FAQ.
If your iSight fails these tests, take it to your Apple Service Technician or see the Where to Find Help for iSight? FAQ for help on how to have it serviced directly by Apple.
Questions about what is compatible with Skype should be addressed with Skype. I suggest you check Skype's Help pages for ideas.
I do not use Skype, but Skype does seem to offer a comprehensive support site. If Skype is your problem and if you cannot find your answer in their Help pages, the Skype forum may give you better ideas from the Skype Users who post there.
    Enjoy your iSight,

  • How can I extract images from a keynote presentation?

Keynote itself sometimes provides images - for example, the cover of a book in the Leather Book theme. How can I extract this image in order to manipulate it? I saw an answer that seemed to help, which was to ensure that the keynote file was saved as a package - but there doesn't seem a way to make this happen with an existing presentation, since there is no 'Save As' any more and duplication doesn't seem to hack it. I'm using MacOS Lion 10.7.5.
    TIA

I found a solution. In the Format area, select the "Image" tab. You should see the file name there. Click and hold the name and drag and drop it to your desktop (or anywhere else you want to save it). It worked perfectly for me. Hope it helps!

  • Can isight be used for college lectures

I know isight is excellent for chatting and video conferencing; but how does it par with a college lecture hall. I have always recorded my lectures and would love to opportunity to be able to record the lecture in both video and sound with the isight. What are the limitations in regard to distance the video and sound will record?

No doubt it depends on the size of the hall; the sound will almost certainly be fine. Last year, I used an external iSight to record some of the classes I was teaching. The results from the back of the classroom were good: the image showed the front of the room and the whiteboard clearly; I could be heard clearly; student responses to questions were hard to hear, as their backs were to the camera. There may be a couple of problems with trying to use a built-in iSight to do this. First, it is my understanding that the built-in iSight has a fixed focus rather than the auto-focus of the stand alone. Second, the laptop screen would have to face the fron of the room.

  • How do you make an iMovie HD movie full screen in Keynote presentation?

    Hey everybody, and Happy Holidays!
I have a presentation tomorrow morning where I will be using a VGA connector to a video projector to present my Keynote presentation. I have tried just about every way I know how to make my imported iMovie HD film full screen during the Keynote presentation, but so far the best I can do is making the slides the 1024 size, which still leaves a black background above and below the movie when it is playing.
Basically, what can I do to make my iMovie film full screen in Keynote?
    Thanks!
    -Randy

First off, I'd be a bit worried if the movie wouldn't play in Quicktime Player -- that's pretty odd, since QT is essentially what Keynote is using for playback as well.
If you have a new MacBook, then its display's "native" resolution is 1280 X 800, which is pretty much HD (which is 1280 X 720). By way of working through this, I'd first set your screen to 1280 X 800, and then set the slide size in Keynote to 1280 X 720 (which is one of the default sizes, precisely because it fits HD). If you do this, and if you set your movie as wide as it will go and centred, then it will leave 40 pixels at the top and bottom of the display when you play the presentation. There is no way around this, as it is simply the case that the height of the movie in pixels is less than the height of the screen. If you tried to fit the movie onto all of the screen, you'd either have to blow it up so that the top and bottom were at the screen edge, which would cut off the left and right parts of the movie (this is like what is done in "pan-and-scan" or "full-screen" DVDs of theatre films), or you'd have to "stretch" the movie vertically, which would distort it.
Complicating all of this is your projector. Even if it is just mirroring your display, if it is a digital projector, it too has its own "native" resolution, and unlike your MacBook, it is very unlikely to be a 16:9 ratio, but rather a 4:3 ratio (800 X 600, or 1024 X 768). So even if you hook up your 1280 X 800 MacBook, the projector will still at best project a squarer image, which may show up as narrow bands of darkness above and below your "mirrored" display.
In short form: there is no way to avoid the black bands -- they arise because the movie isn't as tall as the display, and there's no way around that.
